Chapter 61: Chapter 61
(Vivienne)
The day was like a cursed one for me. I was in a hurry to get to the office hoping and praying whatever was sent to Victor's office didn't get into his hands
I left the taxi I boarded a while ago and ran down the road as fast as I could. There was traffic hence I couldn't wait for long when I was frightened
My mind was frantic with thoughts, “How is it possible to move this fast?”I thought as I moved my legs as high as they could carry me. I didn't even mind the people staring at me thinking I was a madwoman. My steps pounding in time with her heartbeat, my mind was racing faster than my feet as I pounded my feet across the road, as my lungs strained.
"Please don't let him"I muttered, I started cramping and my body shook uncontrollably. My breathing quickens, trying to appease my need for oxygen as I felt the wind whip my face causing my hair to scatter on my face
Focusing on the building ahead of me I sprinted a bit quicker. The steady pound of my footsteps echoed in my ears. I felt a bead of sweat roll down my forehead and splatter to my chin. The anger I developed from thinking about the woman trying to cause trouble in my life. I just experienced Victor's love and care. He proposed to me which was the greatest thing that ever happened to me. I didn't want to face his wrath to see the disappointment in his eyes when he found out I left my child due to my fear.
"He...he can't find out. '' I said I soon came to the entrance of the building and stopped to catch my breath. I was messy as I pushed the hair off my face but the wind wouldn't let me. Without wasting time I pushed the doors open and ran inside to the reception
"H...hey Carol...did anyone...I mean brown envelope...did anyone deliver a brown envelope to sir?"I asked, stammering the words out due to heavy breathing. Carol the receptionist seemed lost or confused about my behavior or how I was looking but I couldn't care less. I was in a hurry and desperate to stop the envelope from reaching Victor at all cost
"Umm yeah...I just took it to him" she said waving her hands in the air in a nonchalant way and I was rendered speechless with no words to say as I prepared to rush to the elevator when she stopped me
"Vivienne, sir is in the conference room attending a very important meeting...he was strict when he said no one should disturb, "Carol said and I knew what she meant. Victor did tell me something about the new foreign partners he was hosting for the entire day. A good business proposal for him which was why he left home early
"I know but this is important," I said and stormed towards the conference room. I didn't stop until I reached the quiet area. It was restricted and free from any employee. In times like this, I knew any better than to stay away but Carol said she gave the envelope to Victor a few minutes before I came, therefore,
I pushed the door open and walked in disturbing Victor who was standing on his usual boss soot talking to the four men seated and we're attentive to him. Noticing my presence they all shifted their eyes to me so did Victor who was surprised obviously to see me looking all crazy with messy hair and a sweaty face
"Ms. Payton...please this is…"Victor said hesitantly. I could see he was trying to communicate with his eyes telling me to leave but I couldn't when the brown envelope was in his hands. It was sealed which meant he was just about to open it
"Mr. Ellison...who is she?" one of the men asked, his scent was a little foreign but I didn't mind as I hesitated but walked to Victor. This was not right but I didn't have a choice
"Sir...well...I mistakenly had my parcel delivered here...Carol accidentally brought my parcel to you"I didn't even know what I was saying but the lies were just coming out without my control. This was a bad idea, especially seeing Victor's angry expression. I was so nervous and nothing like I had ever been before. This secret wasn't supposed to be told like this
"Please...this is important...I'll talk to you later" he leaned down and whispered. His voice was low but carried authority.
"I'm sorry Victor" I murmured back and snatched the envelope from him before he could react. I held it in between my fingers and ripped it in half. I didn't stop there but made sure I ripped the documents into shreds earning gasps from the men and the expression I saw on Victor's face was not so good
"Mr. Ellison what is this huh...is this a joke!" a man said angrily slamming his fist hard on the table and rising to his feet. I was startled as I stood there.
"Did you call us here to humiliate us"
"We thought you were a professional but look what your employee has done to our proposal," another one said and they all sounded angry. I secretly glanced at Victor and he wasn't saying anything. That didn't bother me but what they said. I shifted my eyes down to the shredded papers and started checking them and
"Oh no," this wasn't it. It wasn't the envelope which meant
"My apologies...she didn't mean to...I mean I can reschedule"
"There's no rescheduling this, when we took our time to fly down here... Mr. Ellison, we could have sent the proposal via email but we thought it would be a good idea to do this in person"
"But you disappointed us," the men said one after the other, and guilt washed over me. I didn't know how I made a mistake like this because I screwed up. I overreacted and acted without thinking. All I could think of was saving my skin when the doors slammed shut. I snapped back to reality only to find the man pacing back and forth. He was angry although he didn't show it. I knew him very well
"Those were my Japanese partners...it was difficult to make them come here and be my partners...what have you done?" he stopped pacing and said, looking at me with sharp eyes. He was trying hard to hide his anger and frustration at me. I was a fool because I kept causing trouble no matter what
"I'm sorry...I didn't know…"I tried to at least make him understand. Unfortunately, Victor left the conference room without saying a word. I screwed up so much and now he wasn't going to talk to me
"I should fix this…"I wasn't going to let my emotions get the best of me. Whoever sent that message was watching me. I was tricked because the file Victor had didn't contain DNA results but if that wasn't the case then was the person just trying to mess with me
When I left the conference room I proceeded toward the elevator. I made Victor angry and now I had to think of a way to bring his partners back no matter what. With the latest rival, I heard we had. I was certain Victor needed the best businessmen on board but I ruined it all
"Hey" I was stopped by a familiar voice when I looked up. It was Alexis who rushed to me and pulled me in a hug
"I missed you, Vivie...you look lovely," she said with cheers and moved back. I wasn't in the mood all of a sudden hence I just nodded at her and smiled faintly
"What is it...what happened?" she asked with concern, Alexis looked worried and I understood her.
"It's nothing...let's go, "I said and left her standing there. I needed a break to think. To find the person messing with me. If they intended to expose me to Victor then I had to do this before the person who knew what else would happen next.

"Can you tell me why you are angry huh?"Maverick asked as soon as he entered Victor's office and found him grumpy. He thought Victor would be smiling since he was getting what he wanted but now he thought otherwise
"If they left from here...what guarantee do I have that Mauricio won't lure them to his side?"Victor asked slamming his fist on the desk such that Maverick's eyes
narrowed suspiciously. Did the meeting go so bad that Victor was reduced to such a state but how when the man was great with words. H? has tactics to our anyone to him so why happened
"Did something happen?"Maverick asked as he pulled the chair back and sat down. His eyes were on Victor who was about to say something when his phone started vibrating. His eyes shifted to his phone screen so did Maverick who could see things perfectly well and he knew things were about to get awkward
"Don't answer it"Maverick stopped Victor because it was Mauricio calling and everyone knew how intense things were whenever these two spoke, Victor was not happy as he picked up the phone. Maverick's eyes shifted around and he spotted a sealed brown envelope carefully placed on the table near the files. He didn't think much as he watched Victor throw his phone away angrily and it landed hard on the floor making a thud sound. This was bad.
