Chapter 46: Chapter 46

"Thanks, John...I guess this will do"Alexis said once John finished helping her with her laptop which had been going crazy since morning. She thought she lost some important documents

"No prob Alex...see you tomorrow," John said, getting his backpack and turning to leave the office area. Alexis was the only one remaining and busy packing her things. Her friends had already left, including Vivienne who was in an awful mood. Alexis failed to understand what happened to Vivie to leave work so soon, unfortunately, she was occupied with John since afternoon which meant she had to see Vivie later

"Not leave yet?"While working on her backpack, Priscilla approached her desk and set a cup of hot coffee near her. Looking up she smiled in gratitude

"Very soon and thanks for the coffee, "Alexis said  taking the mug in her hand unfortunately it was hot that she put it back to cool down

"If you need anything just say so...I'll be in my office," Priscilla said walking away and Alexis nodded and got up from the chair. She wasn't leaving any time soon hence she decided to get some snacks to go with the coffee but she took the mug with her and rushed out of there heading towards the elevator. All she wanted was to work a little before she went to her apartment. As much as she would like the idea of going home and soaking in a warm bubble bath she still had to work on her project

"Damn it"Alexis muttered when she stopped running due to the sharp pain she felt in her lower abdomen. The pain was too much that even extending her hand to press the elevator button was a problem

"Oh...come on...come on," she said, pressing the button continuously, doing everything to ignore the pain. Even a sip of coffee wouldn't do anything to get her out of her misery. This was terrible knowing the pain was getting even sharper

"I should take the stairs," she said, changing her mind when the elevator wasn't open. She wasn't well and needed to go home and rest better yet visit the doctor again for some painkillers.

"Ahh! oh god" she stopped when the intensity of the pain got even worse. She couldn't move her legs when the mug of coffee slipped out of her hand and shattered to the floor into pieces. Alexis found the wall and used it as support to balance as she took small steps down the stairs.

"No not now...please please" this was too much. I didn't want to cause much drama when Vivie was nowhere to be seen. I managed to get to the first floor with great difficulty but even so. I couldn't handle the pain that even my eyes were getting blurry as tears fell without my permission.

"I don't think so...but I'll make sure to do that" while struggling to walk I heard Priscilla giggling not sure who she was talking to but she was by the reception

"It's good you don't have to worry...take care" another familiar voice and this time Alexis knew too well to whom it belonged. She thought Maverick already left but it seemed he was about to leave now. Without caring she dragged herself towards the cafeteria straightening up to look normal unfortunately all her strength left her when she came into view only to find herself falling without having any control over her body. The only thing she felt was her head hitting the tiled floor and saw a tall figure rushing towards her yelling about something as a pair of hands circled her.

"Thanks a lot," Vivie said when the waitress brought her what she ordered. The approaching night was beginning to get cold. This was why I decided to stop at the cafe to have some coffee and snacks when I worked on my project. With some hot coffee and snacks, I was good to work as I fixed my eyes on the laptop screen. My phone vibrated for the hundredth time and glancing at the glowing screen I ignored it. The messages were coming in which were Ignored as well

It was best if he didn't even call me after what he said.

"Hello, pretty lady" while munching on my snacks someone said, getting my attention. In no time I found myself joined by a man I didn't know how to get rid of smiling at me as he took my coffee and gulped it down in one go surprising me because the coffee was way too hot

"You!"I said unhappily pointing my index finger at him but he just finished up my entire coffee and licked his lips in a way I found disgusting and slammed the mug on the table so much that he startled me

"Such ill display of manners for a man" I spat out disdainfully seeing how he acted so vile in my presence. He didn't react to my insult but grinned as he reached for my bowl of snacks unfortunately for him he was greeted by a hard slap on the hand

"So...how's the little lady doing...here alone," Mauricio said as he leaned back to the chair and crossed his arms over his chest, and grinned even more.

"I have work if you don't mind... play elsewhere," I said word by word making sure I sounded as sarcastic as I could just to irritate him. Unfortunately the man was grinning and blinking mischievously at me. He was wearing a white muscle shirt stuck to his strong-looking biceps and triceps. That innocent smirk tugging at the corners of his lips had me wondering. His expression and aura were confusing

"I wanna play here...it's fun...Ms. Payton, I came with a little proposal" he said seriously just as a tall man in a black suit with dark shades approached our table and bowed at him before he handed Mauricio a black cover file

"Thanks, champ, "Mauricio said to the man who retreated away and I watched as he walked towards the entrance door. I had chosen a table closer to the windows since I didn't want any disturbances especially when I had serious work to do but I regretted it because the hooligan was bullying me

"Look here mister...don't you get tired of being insulted...do you think I have forgiven you for what you did!"I lashed out angrily recalling the incident which occurred earlier. Hearing me he didn't react or feel scared or regretful but he just chuckled and carefully placed the file on the table

"Did you love my little gift...it was nothing no need to say thank you" he said throwing his hands in the air in a nonchalant way and I was beyond irritated

"Thank you?"

"You're welcome," he said winking at me playfully and my anger flared. I didn't thank him for pulling such a cheap stunt at my workplace

"That's my workplace...how dare you do that!"He went too far doing that. He deserved a tight slap across his face

"What? Haven't you ever heard of what a man does whenever he falls in love...men do the craziest things for the woman they want" he said finding a way to my snacks and this time I had no time to stop him. His voice was calm when he said such that I was about to yell at him when I calmed my nerves

"Leave from here before I do something horrible" I warned him with a deadly glare pointing towards the door or better yet choose another table to continue his shenanigans

"Work for me...I promise to let you continue your internships and the final year...I have a good position for you in my company" he ignored my warning and said seriously. Looking at him he wasn't grinning nor joking but even so he made me extremely angry

"And what makes you think I asked for that huh?"I lashed out, not sure why he was offering me something I didn't want.

"A woman like you, so intelligent, doesn't deserve a place like where you are now...you are a bird full of life...you need to be where you'll be able to soar high," Mauricio said just as the waitress delivered two cups of coffee. She placed one on my side and gave the other to Mauricio.

"Mr whatever you call yourself...and when did I say I didn't like where I am?"I asked sarcastically, ignoring the coffee before me. I guess he wasn't so ordinary hearing his words. He came here to offer me a job when he knew I was working for someone else. Looking at him I saw through his intentions. Men like him loved to drag women in their rival fights and knew Victor's company was the best among the rest. I saw where this was heading

"There's a good proposal for you my dear...I like how hard-working and smart you are...read through and tell me your thoughts' 'he added, shoving the black file to me. My eyes shifted from him then to the file "if you want more then I'll make sure...our company fulfills your demands"
