Chapter 71: Chapter 71
I stride into the house, looking so pale and drained. I feel sorry for Liam’s mother. I regret judging her so harshly. Poor woman. I hope she forgives us.
But we are not solely to blame for this, right? She should have told us. She should have sent some light our way. How were we supposed to know that all that was just a show? She should have at least called her son before budging in here, looking so suspicious. Or at least send a message. All this would have been avoided.
“Come here, you bitch!” I am snapped from my thoughts by the sound of a lady as she catches up with me on the stairs.
Not this bitch! What does she want? She should be busy preparing for tonight, not chasing me like a dog.
“What is it, Mitch?” I ask angrily as I stop to face her.
“Don’t you dare act up on me, bitch! What are you and Liam plotting? What is happening tonight?” She asks between gritted teeth.
“It is Liam, who is supposedly your husband, who called for the meeting. Why don’t you go ask him?” I snap. Will the b*tch never leave me alone? Why does she continue trying to get information from me even if she is damn sure she can never get anything from me? She is such a success!
“Are you trying to mock me?” She hisses.
“Am I? I am just advising you accordingly. It should be you who knows what your husband is up to and not me, right?” I challenge.
“Stop lecturing me and tell me what he is up to. I know you know something. It is most likely what you both were planning at the pool. Tell me what your game is.” She asks.
I smirk. She most definitely does not have anything in her thick skull. Why on earth would I divulge such a secret to her? “You know there is no way in hell I would ever divulge Liam’s secret to you, even at gunpoint, Mitchell! Save your strength and my time.” I state, opting to just walk away. We have a tough battle waiting for us in a few hours. I need to save some energy for later.
“Liam will be ruined if he makes a mistake tonight.” She screeches, making me turn around. “Do not support his absurdity if at all you care for him.” She adds so boldly.
Then that should bring her so much glee, right? She should be happy that Liam and his family will be doomed tonight. That was her and her family’s goal all along. They should be preparing to throw a gala party to usher in the success. But woe unto them! Nothing of the sort will happen. They will not know what exactly hit them.
“Liam does not need a brilliant man. And he isn’t an unstable man who would act without thinking. If you are concerned for your husband, there is absolutely no need to worry. Believe me, he knows exactly what he is doing. Take this from someone who knows your husband more than anyone else in this world.” I state, and I start my way up.
“Hey, I am not done yet.” She tries to grab my hand, but I jerk it off, trying to pick up my pace.
But she was not ready to let it all go. And unfortunately for me, she managed to get hold of my dress from the back. She pulls me back. “Get back here, you bitch! How dare you try to walk out on me while I am not done?” She screeches while I am battling to stabilize myself. As if the heavens have turned their faces away from me, I miss a stair as she drags me back.
“Mitch!” I try to hold on to her, fighting every force that is pulling and pushing me to the ground, but she evades me, leaping a safe distance from me as I hit the stairs and start rolling down. I scream Liam’s name and my baby.
Everything pains me as I rest on the floor. I see darkness for a moment. A very deep darkness, but through it all, I managed to see Mitch’s face as she motionlesslessly gawked at me up the couple of stairs where we were. She hasn’t moved an inch. She is not even showing any signs of moving to help me. I force my hand up in her direction. “Help me, Mitch! Please!” I cry, tears rolling down my cheeks, and at the same time, I feel something cold dripping down my thoughts.
I try to lift my head up. But all muscles are so stiff. I drop my hand down, sneaking it through my dress and up my thighs. I feel it—the cold liquid. I pull my trembling hand out. Through my vague vision due to the curtains of tears hanging in them, I see red stains on the hand.
“No! No! No! Li…Liam!” I cry out through my pains and fears. Every single muscle and bone in my body is hurting. My whole body is a trembling mess. My vision is becoming blurred as more tears fill my ears. "Someone, please help me!” I cry out louder with all the strength left in me, hoping and wishing that I could harden myself as the echoes of my scream reverberate throughout the entire mansion.
“I cannot lose this child! I cannot lose a second child! This cannot happen to me.” I pray as I gabble, jerking myself up from the floor. I cannot let this happen to me. God, please don’t let this happen. Where is Liam?
“Lynn!”
Savior! I lift my head to meet him as he reaches for me in a flicker.
“Oh, my God! Lynda!” His mother drops her phone at the door as she rushes towards us. “What happened?” She implores, shaking rapidly as she helps Liam lift me up.
At my feet, I force my neck to turn and look at the stairs where that witch was standing. I don’t know whether it is my tears not doing me justice to see how she is taking all this, because I can't see her. Not even a vague image of her. Not even her vague shadow.
“Get the car ready, Mother. We are going to the hospital. She is bleeding. Hurry up, Mom!” Liam whimpers as he sweeps me off the floor, heading out behind his mother, who is barefoot, as she leads us to the car.
“I don’t want to lose my baby.” I whimper, hugging my belly, and the only things that tie my hope together are my faith that God cannot be this cruel to me and the fact that I can feel my baby bump.
“You won't, Lynn. Our baby is safe. You and our baby will be alright. Just relax, okay?” He says as he rests me in the back seat, his mother lifting my head and resting it on her lap as she settles in.
“I will stay with her. You drive, Liam.” His mother says.
“Okay. Be strong, Lynn, for me and our baby.” He says, kissing my forehead before rushing to the front seat.
