Chapter 72: Chapter 72
I exert all my efforts to peel my eyes. It seems like darkness is dominating the light, but a white-painted room greets my vision, albeit. It is super clean and spotless, but the aura is dusk.
“Hey.” I look to the side where that worrisome voice came from, and I meet Liam's miserable eyes.
Then the reality hit me: I am in the hospital from that fall. Nothing is hurting now, but I remember I was bleeding. I snatch my hand and drop it into the belly. I still have a bum. But I was bleeding. It was so frightening that I almost died from that fright. “The baby? Is the baby fine?” I whimper as Liam reaches for my hand again, curving his other hand over my hand as he strokes my hair.
He kisses my hand. “Yes. Our baby is perfectly fine. The doctor said there was nothing to worry about except that we should avoid such incidences from happening. But for now, you both are okay.”He says this, showering my hand with kisses.
“Oh, thank God.” I heave out a sigh, sucking back the tears of joy as I caress my belly with one hand. I would have died if anything had happened to my child. I cannot handle that pain again.
I curse that bitch for giving such a deadly fright. How could she? She just stood there and watched as she wiggled in pain. My efforts to plead for her help all went in vain. Why? Did she want to intentionally kill my baby? How could she have done this to me?
“I was so scared. What really happened? How did you fall?” Liam asks with both worry and concern.
I remember it all. How that bitch was pulling back despite knowing that we were on the stairs and that I was pregnant. She leaped on me to deny me support. How she watched me as I rolled down the stairs until I hit the flat ground My pleas didn’t move her even a single muscle. She did not care whether I and my baby died or not. She did not take responsibility for her actions and try to help or show any concern.
“Have you talked to Mitch?” I ask, wiping the tears from my eyes. That bitch better get ready. She must experience even just half the pain I have experienced. She is lucky she will not go through that hell of worrying for an innocent life or even that of her own, but I will teach her a lesson.
“No. Why?” Liam asks, getting curious.
I look around, trying to scan for his mother, but I don’t see her anywhere. “And your mother? Did she leave already? Has she talked to Mitch?” I ask. I mean, I know how frightened she looked when she saw Liam trying to lift me up from the floor and how she encouraged me in the car, but still, I know she has only a slight humanity spot for me. I would not be surprised if she had gone home already. At least she did not abandon me like that witch.
“The doctor said you would spend the night here, so she went to get some fruits for you. You lost some blood, so it needs to be replaced.” He explains.
Well, I think I should change my perception of her. She seems like a different kind of person these past few years. First, she divulged to me that she was not in our house for the intentions that Liam and I had. I even expected her to yell at me and try to force me to do what she was asking me to do. But she did not. She respected and accepted my decision, and she even gave me instrumental advice. Then there was the worry on her face when I was in danger. And now this. I guess she isn’t that bad.
“So, what happened?” Liam asks again.
“Mitch pushed me!” I brat out, all the fury that I am feeling for that woman boiling in me. I don’t think I will ever hate any human being in my entire life the way I detest that woman.
“She did what?” Liam asked, battling with rage and shock. I clutch his hand tight. I know he might think of storming out to go get that bitch. I need him more now than ever.
“Hasn’t she called you or your mom?” I ask, hoping that she is not that heartless. Although I am not hoping so much, if she had even just a slight sense of humanity, she would have done something and helped me instead of standing there and gawking at me as if she were waiting for me to die.
“No. Mom left her phone back in the house. And she hasn’t called me either. I saw her rushing to our room while I was rushing down when I heard you calling. Did she leave you there?” He asks, helping me to sit up because I am sick of this bed already. And they said I was sleeping here? Ghosh! I guess I am in for one hell of a night.
“She did. I tried calling for her help, but she did not even try to help me. I guess she left because she did not want you or your mother to find her just standing there while I was almost losing my baby.” I explain.
“How could she do all that? That is so unforgivable.” He is almost breaking my hand as he presses it against mine. “I will make that whole family regret crossing paths with me and my family. She will pay.” He roars faintly. He looks like a real enraged lion. He is ablaze with hot wrath.
I wince. “Liam?” I call.
“Yes? Are you in pain? Do I need to call a doctor?” He asks after taking note of my face.
“No. Your hand. It was a bit rough on mine.” I say this as he discharges my hand.
“I am so sorry. I…”
“It is alright, Liam. I am fine.” I say.
Kneels beside the bed, taking both my arms into his and kissing them with kisses. “I will make them pay, especially for this attempt. Whether it was intentional or not, they must pay. She must pay. I promise.
“Alright, but that bitch is all mine. Spare her for me.” I state this as I play with his mustache.
He looks at me with cold puppy eyes. “Can I say no to you even just this once, please, love?” He asks.
No?
“Why?” I ask in confusion.
“Because I don’t want to risk seeing you get hurt again, Lynn. I will not bear it. I almost died when I saw you lying there, bleeding and in such much pain. I don’t want anything like that to happen again.” He explains his fears. And I understand him perfectly, but who said I would let that bitch hurt me again? This was her first and last. And what I will make her go through will be something she will never forget.
“I know, Liam. I also don’t want to go through that trauma again. It brought back painful memories that I didn’t want to remember. I…”
“Memories that you don’t want to remember?” He cuts me off, and we lock eyes after I realize what I have said. Shoot! My tongue slipped, and now he looks more curious than I have ever seen him. “Have you ever gone through this again, Lynn?” He implores.
“Gone through what?” Suddenly, there is the voice of her mother as she enters the room with a full basket of fruits. She shopped a lot. "Is there a problem?” She adds.
