Chapter 61: Chapter 61
“Good luck, and please make sure you find concrete avidities. And make sure you don't end up embarrassing yourself like your daughter here. And ooh, while at it, please teach her how to go about these things because she stinks at it!” I challenge.
Nobody has a word at this moment.
I don’t know the kind of message that Liam is transmitting with the way he is squeezing my hand and soothing its back with his thumb, but I suppose it is a show of extolment. He knows how much I want to screw this bitch, and that must be the reason why he remained mute. He knew I would be busking in this glee after humiliating the bitch and rendering her useless efforts futile.
“Well, Mr. Adams. This may not be adequate evidence to substantiate my daughter’s allegations, but it is clear to us that she is suffering at the hands of your son. We didn’t sign our daughter up for this. This has to be resolved, or the deal is off!” Mr. Edward speaks after a long while.
This is people and blackmail.
“I have not mistreated your daughter. I would have accepted the blame if I did anything without letting her know. She is causing unnecessary fuss.” Liam speaks.
“How can you say you don't mistreat me, Liam? Have you forgotten you once beat me up?"
“What?” Everyone snaps.
“Why didn’t you tell us this earlier, dear? How could you keep such a serious thing a secret?” Her mother asked, scanning her body as if checking whether she had broken bones.
“Liam? We did not raise a woman beater. Is this also a lie?” His father asks
Naah! It isn’t. But she deserved it. She asked for it.
“That is true, and I had my reasons. I am not a woman beater, but I will not hesitate to break her bones next time if she dares to insult me and disrespect me. Before we talk of the agreement that binds us, I am a man. I deserve respect.” Liam explains.
“Nothing gives you the right to lay your hands on my daughter, you son of a bitch!” Mitchell’s father throws a punch at Liam, but Liam catches it before it can dismantle his left jaw. In anger, he throws a fist back, smashing the old man’s right eye.
“Enough, Liam! Cut it out!” Both Mr. and Mrs. Adams manage to pull Mr. Edwards, while I pull Liam back.
“Come down, Liam!” I agree with the fuming lion.
“See what I am talking about? This witch has cast a very strong spell on your son. He is losing his mind. How can he punch his father-in-law?” Mitch cries as they help her father to the couch.
"Father-in-law, my foot! Get that man up and take him out of my house before I kill him with my bare hands.” Liam hoarses, and my efforts to hold him still are growing inutile. He is slipping out of my grasp, and I am so afraid of what he might do if he gets to the man.
“Come down, Liam!” It was meant to be a whisper, but his name comes out as a howl when he finally slips out and charges towards the man.
“Stop it, son!” His father stands in his way, blocking him from reaching Mr. Edward, who is coiled on the seat.
“I want that man and his family out! I have had enough of them!” Liam says.
“But, Liam, we need to find a solution to this. You know we need them. You are risking everything with your actions.” His father roars under his breath. He is angry, but not more than his son.
“I do not need anyone’s intervention to sort out my issues. Mitch!? Get your fucking parents out of my house.” He orders.
“I think we better go.” Mitch says this as she and her mother help her father to his feet.
They walk closer but maintain a safe distance from Liam. “You will regret this, Liam.” Mitch hisses.
“Mr. Adams, whatever happens to our partnership from this minute on, blame it all on your son! I will make him pay.” Mr. Edward warns, sounding like a real devil.
“Get the hell out of my house!” Liam says.
They all walk out, and Liam escorts them with his eyes until the door slams shut behind them. He actually does not turn or move even after that until his father speaks. “What insolent, Liam?! How could you lose your temper like that toward them? Do you know what will happen if they call this deal off? We will be left with nothing! Absolutely nothing! Nadah!”
“Are you sure we are safe with them, father? Did you read all the clauses of that damn agreement before agreeing to it?” Liam asks calmly as he turns around.
“Of course I did. Do you think I am that stupid to sign such a serious deal without knowing what I am signing up for?” His father responds.
“Are you sure? If that is the case, then I suppose you are aware of clause 3D on page 17, which states that if I do not produce an heir, in case of my death or separation from Mitchelle, every single thing that I am entitled to will go to her. That is like the whole of Adam’s fortune because I am the sole heir. Did you see that while signing the contract? Were you also in consent with that?” Liam asks.
Lull engulfs us and the entire house. His parents are dumbstruck. From their furrowed faces, I could tell that they did not know about any of what Liam just said. Their mouths hang wide agape as they turn to each other, perhaps asking, 'Did you see that? To each other. And of course, they most definitely did not know. Who, in their right senses, would say such a thing?
So, Liam's hunch was correct all along. These Edward family members are cons and dirty.
