Chapter 46: Chapter 46
Legion stomped into his mansion in fury, "Caleb!" He yelled watching as some obviously deranged maid run into the next room.
The other Lycan members had sensed his fury the moment he had stepped on the property and immediately made themselves as scarce as possible.
Nobody wanted to be near the young prince if anything was to go the opposite way.
Xeric was angry, angry that he was taken away from his mate. Caleb had called earlier and told him to immediately come back to the mansion.
This did not sit well with the Lycan prince. It seemed nobody wanted him to be happy, he just wanted to spend the rest of the day near his mate.
"Your highness" Caleb replied causing Legion to turn around sharply. He hardened his jaw trying to control his Lycan, “there better be a damn good reason as to why you sent for me,” He wasn't some peasant that could be summoned at any hour.
Caleb nodded lowly, bowing his head, "I didn't your majesty."
Xeric growled with intensity this was no time for stupid games. "I did," a voice replied.
Legion froze at the sound of that voice. One he hadn't heard of in ages. He knew that voice. His Lycan had suddenly disappeared as he looked over his shoulder quietly, "Father."
King Damian approached his son, and legion turned to meet him.
He couldn't believe it. He hadn't seen his father for years since he was banished to this realm and now he was standing right there before him.
King Damian wore casual jeans and a normal looking shirt. On any day one would think of him as just some good looking man walking down the street. His hair matched that of legions darkened shade and his eyes were fair and Hazel.
King Damian hugged legion bringing him closer to his body. Regardless of anything between them he had missed his son tremendously. It had never been easy sending him away but it had been something that had to be done.
There was never a time when Legion felt so weak, his Lycan seemed to cower beneath that of his fathers, Zerth. The King of Lycans.
He relaxed in his father’s hold, closing his eyes for a moment. It felt good.
King Damian smiled holding him at arm’s length, "Decades have come and gone and you haven't changed a bit my boy,"
Legion couldn't hide the smile that crept through. His father still remained the same except for the little stripes of white that bleached his hair.
"Come son, I prepared a feast,” he beckoned as he led him toward the banquet hall.
Legion couldn't take his eyes of him. Not even in surprise at the feast that was before them. After all these years he was finally here. He admired every piece of him, wondering if this was a dream or merely some work of magic. He was here...but why?
Why was his father here?
"You really shouldn't be thinking too much on an empty stomach,” King Damian stated grabbing a napkin. "Your beast needs to be fed, boy," He knew his son way to well, and decades in this realm had not changed him one bit.
The wheels were turning in his head already.
"What are you doing here father?" Legion asked skeptically.
King Damian sighed, he had really hoped they would bond over the meal first before he would have to explain. But even as he did he knew legion was way too guarded. He was after all his father’s son.
"I thought it was obvious, I've come to take you home son, and the time has come" he replied casually.
Xeric immediately shone through his eyes creeping in. He missed his home terribly and had waited for this day. But he would not leave his mate. Not for anything in this world.
"I do not wish to return, at least not at the moment" Legion replied very carefully choosing his words.
King Damian grinned unaffected as he poured himself a drink, "eat,” he ordered.
There was a slight pause before Legion served himself, however he remained on high alert. He knew his father well and if his father was calm it only meant he had everything in control.
King Damian looked around at the old mansion. It was the only thing that reminded him of Kesh in this foreign world, with its castle like interior. No wonder his son chose this place in particular. It only showed how fond he was of home.
"This realm has grown into you,” he continued eyeing Legions casual dressed clothing.
Legion nodded taking a sip of the wine.
"But it isn't your home," he finished cutting out a piece of his steak. Legions eyes met his fathers at those words.
"I see you've built quite the reputation, Xeric seems to be more comfortable considering the stories I heard when they first brought you here, you should really stop killing your business partners."
Legion scoffed, "you mean when you banished me here,"
"As punishment for your sins."
Legion paused at this, leaning back into his chair, the past came flooding back to his memory, “was it? Was it my fault really father?" He asked with a hint of bitterness.
At that moment King Damian knew the whole father son charade was ruined.
The past had a funny way of destroying the future and affecting the present, and now it was back again, "you went on a blood rage son, you killed hundreds, thousands of good of citizens, dead in a single night. You tried to take the throne away from me" he stopped, gritting his teeth before looking back up at his son, "you killed your mother boy, and you still ask if you deserved it?"
Legion grew quiet. That one thing, one moment that ruined everything. He hadn't meant to but he did.
Flashes from the past echoed through his mind.
She was just too close, too close and he was young, he couldn't stop it. It took one swing only one swing, before her head rolled to his feet.
His hands morphed into a fist tightening. Just one memory he would have wished to forget.
She should never have tried to calm him, she didn't have a Lycan, there was no way she could have protected herself. It was just too late and too close.
Too close.
"You deserve it,” a silence filled the air, "but I deserved it the most, "King Damian replied sadness seeping inside.
Legion snapped up to look at his father, he knew what he would say next. He hoped he said it. He wanted to hear the story again.
"It should have just been fun, I knew I had a mate but Erilyn was just...” He trailed off before looking up at his son, "perfection," He finished, "sinful perfection."
"I was young then" he continued retelling the story Legion had only heard but once in his life, "I thought it was love, Erilyn may have not been of my Kind, but she was bewitching and I honestly thought she was the one."
He let out a long breath standing up, "my Father warned me, he told me I was too young to understand what a mate really meant, he told me to wait, wait till she came to me. But-" he frowned a lost look echoed through his hazel eyes, a low painful chuckle coming through, "I didn't want a mate if it meant it was not Erilyn. No, I didn't believe another love existed past that of the mask of lust"
Legion knew which part came next. It was a story he had only heard of once, a history his father had lived but had kept it close to his heart for it was not only his father’s history but Legions too.
"I was going to marry Erilyn, yes she would be my queen, I remember sneaking through the castle walls heavily cloaked so no one could recognize me, dashing through the streets of Kesh to our secret spot, and then I saw her, Kivara." The taste of her name on lips brought a strange peace.
"There was no love like that of hers, I was bewitched and she couldn't even do magic with that middle blood that run through her veins, but she was mine and Erilyn meant nothing after"
Legions mind went aloft as his mother’s name was spoken, a name he hadn't uttered in decades, Queen Kivara. Hair as golden as the sun, heart even more surpassing.
It was rare for a Lycan to mate with one who was not his kind, even rarer for a moon crested Lycan. But there she was, a middle witch, mated to the crown prince of Kesh.
It should have been a love story told for generation to generation but it ended in more of a nightmare, one no one spoke of anymore. Her name had been taken off every book, not to be uttered throughout Kesh as the king decreed.
It was too painful.
"I should have listened to my father, the fires of set cannot be compared to the fury of a woman" King Damian retreated to his chair, “she gave her soul to the darkness, Erilyn was not to be forgotten so easily. Black magic became her ritual, her belief, and on the day I was mated she gave a curse, a curse she fixed with her life. My son was to be a beast like his father and his father before him, but his lust for blood would not be subdued, he would transform past the boundaries the moon had carved, he would feast on the living mortal and immortal and kill even those he called beloved. Those that gave him love."
Queen Kivara’s face shone through Legions mind.
"She burnt herself to the stake sealing a magic so dark it was fueled from the sacrifice of her soul"
Legions subconsciously touched his arm, feeling for the mark, the mark every moon crested Lycan bore, the mark of the half moon. It was supposed to be dark like the night sky the moon slept in but instead his was red, as red as the blood that fell on that fateful day.
"Losing your mother was a price I paid for my sins, the price I pay every day. Zerth will never forgive me, I will never be as I was. It is a scar wedged onto my very soul. "
Legion could see the distant look in his father’s eye. Of untold grief and sorrow. Xerox was at a loss of words, to lose ones other half was to live every day without the feeling of being whole, knowing there would always be something missing.
"Your curse was brought upon you through jealousy and spite, perhaps it is true it is not your fault. I promised Erilyn things I could only fulfill with Kivara. It is not something that could have been changed, I did try" he breathed out relaxing,
Legion looked away, “I know all that father, and a lesson in our history is not something I like."
""Yes, but what you don't know is after your blood rage I consulted a was old Witch who told me Erilyn’s curse was irreversible as it was done with Magic that could not be spoken of, but there was a key, if love was the problem, love could be the answer but of course you cannot rush fate"
Legion had never heard this side of the story.
"It is why I sent you into this world because only here you could be free until the right time of course. Under this earth realms moon, your curse was lessened, the rage controllable or haven't you noticed? "
Legion eyebrows furrowed.
King Damian gave a low grin, "it has never crossed your mind as to how you haven't had another blood rage in this realm for decades? Rage maybe there but this realm and its moon have kept you void"
He sat back watching his sons confused expressions at this enlightenment, "but now we must put your affairs in order, we have both paid the price, and now it's time to be free son"
Legion looked up at him,
"The girl has been found, I must say I was beginning to lose hope, but I cannot wait to meet my future daughter in-"
"Wait- what?" Legion asked his heart beating.
King Damian grinned unaffected, "your mate, the girl with curls in her air, exotic skin, it should ring a bell" he smirked slyly.
Legion glanced at his side, fury over taking him as he watched Caleb cower at his intensity by doorway.
"It wasn't him, so sit Xeric," Zerth ordered.
Immediately Xeric took the order although the rage in him did not want to subside.
"Though I must admit I was DISSAPOINTED-" he roared gazing at Caleb who bowed his head low in fear, " That he did not inform me of this advancement earlier, I did send him into this realm solely for the purpose of keeping an eye on you and report back to me, "
At this revelation Legion remembered all the times Caleb had blamed him for coming into this realm. He had forgotten to say he was also his father’s spy.
"But." King Damian continued, "He decided to disobey his king. It took a stupid informant for me to have a slightest idea of what was to come, but of course when he mentioned the girl who called you by name I knew she was the one"
He glanced back at Caleb, “I would have your head if I didn't think my son needed loyal friends like you in his life."
He turned back to his son, “or just any friends".
Legion watched as the familiar grin crept its way back onto his father’s face, " so when do I have the pleasure of meeting the girl to save us all, what's her name again -- Kaya Renee Joston? Strange name but it has a certain beauty to it."
Legions eyes widened.
"Oh forgive me son, I was so excited when I found out I just had to know well..... Everything about her." He chuckled at this, "it was strange when I found out you enrolled at a human school. What do they call it? Uhmm"
"A high school, your Majesty, Rodney High,” Caleb replied.
Legion shot him a deathly look that completely wiped the smile off his face.
"That's right, the school that has more creatures than I've ever seen. I must say I found it strange that witches, vampires and beasts mix freely in this realm, I considered it hilarious how the humans are completely clueless."
Legion found it hard to breathe at the moment.
King Damian was enjoying this a lot. He couldn't hide his excitement, “so, when will I meet this angel? I mean I have seen her from a distance actually,”
"You went near her?" Legion asked trying to contain himself.
King Damian paid him no mind, "She reminds me a lot of your mother. I really can't wait to officially meet this gift of ours, future Queen of Kesh. I was expecting to see her with you today. The way I remember it mates can't keep their eyes, minds or bodies away from each other, you must tell me everything about my future daughter in law."
Legion shifted uncomfortably in his seat.
Caleb looked at the ground clasping his hands together tightly.
King Damian watched all of this with his attentive eyes, "she is human, I suspect when you broke the news to her she was bewildered?" he asked slightly, he watched as Legion looked away the tightness in his fists dissolving.
"You have told her, she does know," King Damian stated.
Legion kept quiet as King Damian glanced at Caleb who immediately lowered his head.
He wasn't losing his life over this.
"Legion," his father stated firmly, causing him to look up
"She does know, does she not?"
"Know what?" Legion replied feeling a sudden dryness in his throat, gulping down the last of the wine.
King Damian laid back easily, “Does she know anything about you? That you are a beast, you are prince? You do not come from this realm. You've killed before? Humans are sensitive about death. Your mother’s name is Kivara? Your fathers is a king? There is another world apart from earth, Vampires do exist, you are one day to rule and that she is your mate and future queen of Kesh?"
Legion remained quiet.
"Does she even know what a mate is?"
He watched his son in disappointment.
There was a silence that filled the room.
"How has Xeric put up with you?" He wondered in Amazement.
Xeric growled as if he had wondered the same thing all his life.
"Its complicated father, Kaya is different I can't just. Just tell her. It doesn't work like that. She is a human, barely 18. She has dreams and aspiration and so many more things. I can’t just tell her what I am. It could ruin it al. It doesn’t work-"
"I'll tell you how it works son,” King Damian countered, “Firstly, you find your mate. In a case like yours where the other is human and therefore clueless you tell her she is your mate, then you take her, you mate with her and the rest falls into place. It really isn't that hard, Right Caleb?"
"Exactly your majesty," Caleb replied shortly, unable to deny his King.
"There is never a plan. It can go two ways only. She is completely delighted that a prince is her mate and she will be royalty or she faints because you are a beast and a cold hearted killer. Either way, she's coming home with you," King Damian explained seriously though it flowed in a creepy casual manner.
"Father-"
"It's not difficult Legion, the girl was created for you, you were created for her and she would know that if she were a wolf or Lycan or any other supernatural creature, but humans are slow, they will not believe till they see and you tell them"
"I just can't go up to her and -"
"Enough!" King Damian said standing up, "it is clear the lack of our very much needed father-son time has made you weak when it comes to matters of the heart and Caleb has been of no help whatsoever. I shall walk you through it myself. By the end of this week Kaya must know you are a Lycan."
"What? You just can't expect me to-"
"I'm King, Legion, I expect whatever I say to be done. I will not allow your future and our kingdoms to rest on your unstable hands, a king takes what he wants."
He lay back in his chair, " humans are not like us beasts she will exist without you if need be but for you." His sad eyes dimmed, "it would be a very painful existence. I'm giving you a week Legion, I want to see my daughter and future Queen," he stood up walking to the door,
"I want to see the both of you together and back in Pariah and its lands, they are so many things that could go wrong in this realm. We must take her back to Kesh where I know she will be protected and far away from this evil Zerth feels in his bones"
Legions eyes furrowed at that.
"A week legion. 7 days." He eyed his son carefully, "and do not scare her too much Xeric, you must come to terms with the fact that your mate is human, therefore she is fragile and she does not have a Lycan to protect herself. Treat her with care. And do not-do not let history repeat itself. The curse was meant to destroy the one's we love the most."
Legions fears resurfaced as he watched his father walk out the room. That is the reason why he never wanted to go near Kaya in the first place. She maybe the key to his happiness or he may be the key to her destruction.
