Chapter 17: Chapter 17
A walk to remember
Elijah's POV
We were back in the Forest amongst the trees and the chirping birds on Rignau. I held onto a rock to push myself up from the ground and saw Elle still on the ground. I picked her body up like a bride, holding her tight to my chest and started walking back home. She always remains unconscious for a while after travelling through a portal. I started thinking that it might be effecting her health. I arrived home and took her up in my room to lay her on the bed. Before covering her up I removed the heavy shoes and the oxygen mask and then waited patiently for a long time for her to wake. Finally she showed signs that she was going to wake.
"Elle, are you ok?" I asked her so I make her say something.
She groaned and held her hand on her forehead but didn't say anything. She opened her eyes and looked at me and just stared.
"Are you alright?" I asked again this time with a softer voice.
"Yes. Fine. How did I get here?" She finally asked feeling her whole face with her hands.
"You were unconcious for over an hour. You are still not used to the portal's force," I explained.
I went downstairs in the kitchen and fixed something to eat for both of us. Elle came downstairs at some point and sat down on one of the table chairs.
"Thank you for taking me to jupiter. It was an amazin site to see. I could have stayed there forever just staring at it," she said as I observed her eyes getting wider and her lips curving into a smiled. "I am so lucky." she continued.
"I am lucky to have you by my side," I told her as I put the plates on the table for us and stretched my neck to kiss her forehead.
She smiled as she reached in for a hug.
"I am lucky to have accidentally found you."
Belle's POV
My belly got really big and I knew that it was soon time to push my babies out. My husband was doing most of the chores at home whilst I rested my back and feet. I got bored at some point so I went out of the bedroom and told Jean that I was going out for a walk. He offered to come with me but I wanted to be alone.
"I won't be long I promise. I'm going at my brother's house to check on them. They must have arrived back by now," I said. I leaned in for a kiss and a hug and left.
As I walked I could feel my feet hurting, so I took one slow step at a time. I stopped at some point to rest on a bench not so far from Elijah's house, trying to catch my breath. I saw children playing just a few metres away from me and that made me smile as I was imagining my two babies playing with those children too. When I felt ready I pushed myself up from the bench and continued to walk. I dragged my feet as I got closer to the door and knocked.
Elijah opened the door for me and he looked down at my belly.
"Oh my goodness sister. I feel like you are soon going to pop. Why did you come here unattended?" He asked.
I just smiled and explained that I wanted some alone time. Elle was sitting on the table and turned her head towards me.
"Hey Belle. Are you alright?" She asked as she stood up to come closer.
"I am feeling like today is the day and I know you can help me out, doctor," I said to her.
"I am not a midwife Belle. I only studdied just a small fraction about birth," She answered. "But I can try and help you tye best I can. Come in," she continued.
I was sipping a glass of water when I felt my first contraction coming and my water broke at the same time. I was alone in the kitchen as Elijah was upstairs sleeping and Elle went to take a shower.
"Elijah," I shouted at the top of my lungs and called him three times before he appeared.
"Call Elle to come down and go tell Jean that it's time and he should come here."
Elle rushed downstairs with her hair still wet. Drops of water were running down her neck, wetting her shirt. She prepared the downstairs bedroom for me that used to be my mother and father's room and helped me walk to rest my heavy body on the bed. I took one of my mum's white dresses and Elle helped me change.
"Do they not deliver babies in hospitals here?" She asked me as she opened my legs to check my cervix. In that moment I felt a strong contraction and I moaned in pain.
"They do," I replied after a while trying to breathe slowly and calmly.
"But I wanted to be here in this house where I was born and raised with my parents."
I felt another contraction and I breathed slowly to help myself feel better.
"I miss them still," I continued, "so I came here to feel safe," I added.
Elle kept checking my cervix and encouraged me to breathe slowly and calmly. With every contraction I felt sweat coming out of my body. The pain was unbearable but I had no choice but to keep going until it is over.
The boys arrived and Jean rushed in the bedroom as he heard me moan and breathe through the contractions.
"Come on baby, you can do it. You are strong baby," he told me as he held one of my hands in his.
He patted my head and whiped a tear drop that was rolling down my cheek.
Elle's POV
I tried my best to remain calm as I was supposed to tell her to go to hospital, but since she was hard headed it was useless and also, it was her wish to give birth in her parents's home so I did not dare make her unhappy. During my studies we did go a little bit through the subject of labour so I did have an idea how to do it. The only problem is that she is going to give birth to twins and that it was my first time assisting. If anything happenned it would be my responsability. I kept reminding her to relax and breathe and asked Elijah to bring her a glass of water so she could sip a little bit of water. I could see her servix widen as the time passed but for now it was still a little too early.
"If only you were in hospital you could have gotten some pain killers to help you during the contractions," I told her trying to recommand her to go there whilst she still could.
She shook her head and moaned, her face and neck sweating. Jean was by her side all the way and did not let go off her hand as she pressed his with every contraction that she felt.
"I love you," he told her, "and I you" she said looking up at him with a smile.
Her face showed fear and agony but at the same time she felt safe with all of us by her side.
"You are five centimeters dialated," I announced.
"Half way there. Keep breathing."
I turned to look at Elijah that stood by the door with his arms crossed close to his chest feeling helpless. We made eye contact and he nodded to give me courage.
"Can I get another pillow?" Belle asked as she went through another contraction. Elijah left the room and returned back with a pillow and gave it to Jean to put it behind Belle's back.
"Six centimeters dialated," I said smiling at her.
She nodded lightly and pushed her body down, resting on the pillow. I remembered that I brought with me my Stethoscope and my pulse reader and rushed to get them from Elijah's bedroom. As I rushed back downstairs I hear a really strong moan coming from Belle. The contractions were getting stronger. I took her pulse and it was ok, then checked the heart beat of the babies, the best I could and hers.
