Chapter 91: Chapter 91
They got back to London and all were happy to see them back or so they thought.
Devon had been transferred to a hospital in England for the continuation of her treatment.
One day, it was found out that Deborah was missing. This was while preparations for her third birthday was in progress.
As they called for her all over and could not find her, they were disturbed because she was normally a sensible girl who did not wander around especially out of the premises.
A call came from the doctors treating Devon to say that she had escaped from the hospital. How she was able to overcome the sedative and leave with no one seeing her, irrespective of the security was a marvel.
Bryan could not believe that Devon could do something like that when Sharon suggested that she was the one but who else could it possibly be?
The search for her started. They did not know where to search for Devon be ause they felt that if they could see her, then Deborah would definitely be close by.
'You said that the treatment could cure her obsession of you', Sharon accused Bryan. She had suspected that her child was not safe with such a girl but she had forgotten her fears when Bryan had told her that Devin',s sickness was curable.
The police were not left out in the search. They asked Bryan where she could possibly have gone to.
'If I knew, would I have bothered calling you in to help?' Bryan asked in frustration.
'You do not understand. She is your relative. There must be places she loved going to, places that gave her comfort, do you know of any such place? Because you see, in a situation like this, she would definitely want to go to such a place for solace and for a false sense of security's.
Bryan understood what they were saying. He thought and thought but could think of mo such place . He had concerned himself with providing for her and keeping her safe and comfortable that he had bothered to monitor her movements and why should he when he had other things occupying his mind? Even Brenda who felt that she enjoyed going to the sea was wrong because they went there and to every body if water that they could think of but there was no sign of Devon nor of Deborah. Or maybe she decided not to go there because she felt that that was going to be the first place they were going to come looking for them.
Sharon tried not to get hysterical. 'Please do not bother yourself too much about this because, I shall make sure that our daughter is brought home safe a d sound', Bryan vowed to Sharon. She nodded. If anyone could bring her daughter safely back home, then it was Bryan but that still did not stop her from being bothered.
She kept thinking what Devon was feeding her daughter with in her crazy obsessed state. She could decide to do her harm just to get back at Sharon for what she felt was her crime-- taking Bryan who she lived away from her.
She could not stop getting bothered how she had gained entrance into the premises without being seen by anyone. The helps had all been questioned but no one saw her enter the compound and definitely absolutely no one saw her take Deborah away from the compound.
This made Sharon think that the security of the place had to be tightened and Bryan agreed with her totally. There had been no need of extra security before now, but Devon had shown them the need for that.
Her worry started making Sharon queazy. She ate less. She was not eating much of anything before but now she ate even much less and it started telling on her. She grew emaciated. It was already two days since Deborah had gone missing and her faith in her daughter's return was growing dim. She vowed she was not going to fall sick. She had to be healthy to welcome back her daughter and nurse her back to health.
Bryan was not any better. He could not call Fernando and his wife to ask if Devon was there with his daughter because he didn't think that they were back from their trip to Hong Kong. But at last, she called the servants and specially asked to speak to Ana who assured them that Devin had not returned there after her visit to the place while they were still there.
Bryan started asking the police to do more. To go the extra mile and they brought out their hunting dogs. They normally do not bring them out for such routine checks except when searching for some hardened criminals.
'She may be my relative and may not be a hardened criminal but she is not in her senses and could do harm to the child', he told them desperately. 'As it is, I do not know what she might be feeding the child and in what condition her health is. So please use all the resources available to you. I do not care how much it will cost me, just get my daughter back to me'.
The police had no option after his explanation to get started with intense search.
The dogs were made to perceive first the cloth of Devon and that of Divine and made to start on their search trip but the dogs would go no where.
The police were surprised. They whipped the dogs to get them going but they stayed put and after a while, a wise police officer amongst them suggested that the people they were searching for might just be inside the house.
Sharon was incredulous and so was Bryan. How could they be in the house they had search for three days and there had been no noise or indication whatsoever that they were there? Deborah could not have gone after Devon freely. She was not well acquitted' with her.
The dogs were allowed to go where they wanted and they entered the house and went straight up the stairs and kept hitting the attic door.
It had not occured to them to check the attic because they felt that no one would go there.
Sharon'S heart started pounding with anticipation. She was sure she was about to see her daughter. She imagined how she was going to hug her and give her anything she requested.
