Chapter 22: Chapter 22

TWENTY-TWO

THE VERY LAST MOMENT

Laura had been training so hard that she started feeling weak and might get sick anytime soon. Tracy was taking it hard on her non stop and she is loosing herself, she wished there was a need for all this and she can be with the one she loved.

Tracy had woken up as usual ready to rage after Laura as usual before a knock on the door interrupted her.

"Who is there?" She asked, taking her eye off Laura who is still sleeping peacefully.

"Good morning ma'am, It's Cora from the palace and I've been sent here to give you a private invitation to come to the palace and watch your daughter pre stage performance" Cora replied, her eye widened and like a wind had blown Laura off the couch.

She stood up and rush off to hide in the basement till Tracy comes to call her.

"Hold on" Tracy rearranged the whole house without touching anything, instead she used her power but unfortunately Cora felt it outside although she doesn't know what it means.

Tracy opened the door for her and welcomed her in warmly.

"This is the card, your daughter is an amazing child and that's why the stage performance had been set for a young girl like her" Cora explained, sweetly while Laura just hide to hear the whole conversation.

"Oh!. I'm impressed by how the palace had been treating me lately. Thank you so much" Tracy replied, as she stretch forth to grab the letter.

Laura who wanted to get a clearer view of knocked off the bad door knob that was almost falling to the ground and that caught Cora attention.

"Is anyone with you?" Cora asked, Tracy shifted uncomfortably scratching her ear because Laura had landed her into another trouble.

"Nobody, I've been all alone since my daughter moved to the palace" Tracy lied, but Cora didn't buy it.

"Is someone trying to take advantage of the fact, you are all alone?" Cora stood to her feet and begun to move to the direction the noise was coming from but Tracy stopped her.

"You don't have to be so worked up, I can handle thing myself my daughter" She replied, but Cora who didn't listened pulled the curtain away but Laura wasn't there anymore.

"I told you, nobody is here" Tracy said, as she touched her chest and sigh in relief before Cora turned back.

"I'm sorry, I just wanted to know you are fine" Cora apologised sincerely.

"It's fine, my queen" Tracy replied, and they strode back to the living room to seat again.

"So, as we were saying before. Me and my husband would be so glad to have you" She said, Laura scoffed on hearing her call Axel, her husband.

"What date is the engagement now?" Tracy asked, putting the card invitation on the table back.

"It hasn't been shifted or is there any rumor about that?" Cora asked.

"Oh! I heard Alpha Vincent of the Blood pack would be getting engaged that same that and to form alliance with him. He has to be there on your wedding ceremony" Tracy replied.

"Oh! about that. Axel and I haven't decides on it yet and moreover I heard Laura is missing which simply means the engagement would be called off and he would be chanced to attend ours" Cora boasted, as she played with her hair.

"Cora, Vincent isn't going to come. They are lying to you..." Laura was pissed already with the way Tracy is telling her everything she doesn't deserve to know and with the urge of stomping out to get Cora out of the house already so she can sleep.

"Jacob had threatened Vincent to provide Laura out and send her back to the kingdom of there would be pre war before the full moon war. There is no alliance and Vincent isn't getting married either because Laura flew away from his kingdom a long time ago to keep herself safe. I heard she is close to Alpha Maeve, the Blood moon Alpha pack" She stated, Cora was shocked to ear the news from a total stranger when she had been sleeping and waking up with Axel but he kept her in the dark and followed that witch of a maid?.

"So, Maeve is also looking for her?. What has gotten into those Alphas that is making them chase after an ugly lady like Laura" She scoffed, angrily.

"She used to be your friend" Tracy added, and she felt embarrassed.

"Used" She scoffed.

"What do Jacob intend to do with Laura?" Tracy asked.

"You know so much than me, why do you asks?" Cora replied, Tracy just stared at her without saying a word and she got pissed off.

"I think I should take my leave, my husband-to-be await me" Cora stood up to her feet, ready to leave.

"Thanks for the visitation" Tracy bowed her head, immediately Cora stepped out and she just walked away angrily while the guard followed her. Tracy closed the door and went back in to find Laura sitting on the couch already again.

"What was that about?" Laura asked, arms crossed together, her brows furrowed as she stared at Tracy.

"You almost implicated me, I had to do some talking to get her mind's off the strange thing that happened" Tracy protested, as she seat opposite her.

"Whatever" Laura rolled her eye at her.

"I read minds and that your friend, Cora.."

"She is not my friend" Laura corrected, immediately.

"That your ex- friend, Cora regrets everything she had done to you and wants to make things right but she had gone a little bit far" Tracy said, but Laura just looked away angrily without saying a word.

"If you ever get your ass off my place, go and visit her. I think she have a lot to say to you. She is just a victim but everything was fate, if she hadn't played her part you won't have met Vincent. That's why the moment you refuse to meet Vincent everything turned upside down"

"And my father's death?" Laura asked, Tracy went muted immediately.

"Can we not talk about it!" She felt reluctant to tell her everything she needs to know because she would feel distracted her the more.

"Don't tell me, my father died because of that?. It's been three years now and I'm still kept in the dark?" Laura questioned, pointing at herself.

"You can rest today, training continues tomorrow and I'm sorry your twin sister had been bothering me to meet you again but I have things under control already and your food is in the flask as usual. I need to go meet my friend at the market" She stood up, ready to leave.

"Who murdered my father?. I'm sure he didn't die because it's not yet his time" Laura spoke, she stopped walking away but didn't turned back to her.

"If Lorenzo is responsible for this then, I will have to kill him once I'm out of here" Laura threatened, but Tracy just walked away without saying a word and that pissed Laura off.

Cora returned back to the palace but she didn't meet Axel in the room so she strode straight to the training ground to tell him what she had experienced at Tracy house and how she sense something fishy with the woman.

"Have you seen Axel?" She asked, one of the warriors who seemed to be leaving already.

"He is over there, my queen" He pointed towards the east direction, Cora quickly head straight but stopped when she found him with the maid again.

"I don't know, the palace maid is now so idle to hang out with my husband" She said, as she walked towards them. Venna bowed her head immediately, as she smelled trouble already.

"Venna and I are friends and..."

"I did not asks you any questions!" She shunned Axel up, with her eye fixed on Venna.

"Seems like you no longer want your job, huh?" She scowled at her, Venna just trembled with her legs shaking.

"Get out of my sight before I do the impossible!" She yelled, and Venna ran off immediately frightened by Cora.

"What the hell is the meaning of what you just did?" Axel asked, he looked so furious already.

"So this is what you do instead of training and preparing yourself to protect us the member of the pack?" Cora asked.

"Stop been dramatic, woman" He hissed off.

"Axel!" She called, following him to wherever he was heading to.

"Just leave me alone, I don't want to talk to you" Axel said, walking off and Cora continued to follow him.

"I went to Tracy abode today and something strange happened, I don't know if I was hallucinating but I heard Laura's voice, the old woman seems to be so uncomfortable till I left. And there something I've been hiding from y'all" She blabbered.

"What?" Axel asked.

"Her daughter isn't a wolf, I've seen her use her powers not once but twice" Cora replied, but Axel burst into laughter and she wasn't pleased with it.

"I'm serious!" She exclaimed but that only made Axel laugh even the more.

"I think you should be more focused on begging the Alpha to release your Dad" Axel replied.

"I want to live few days without him in my life, but can you just focus on what I'm telling you" She begged, infuriated by him already.

"Cora, just go and rest. Our engagement ceremony is in a week time already, I don't want you looking so stressed out. Okay?" He tried to touch her face but Cora stepped back.

"Believe it or not, you can make some enquiry yourself" Cora fired, and with that she stomped out of his sight and headed back to the kitchen to set things straight with Venna while Axel looked so confused and wondered if Laura is actually in the silver pack?.

Thank goodness Lorenzo is in prison this time around which would give him more license to make enquiry by himself and with that, he drop his armour and went straight to Tracy place to confirm what Cora had just told him.

Tracy, is one of the elder in the pack and had never been overlooked since Jacob had been made the new Alpha of the Silver pack. Lorenzo made it is job to always put an eye on Tracy for a reason best known to him, he even put her daughter into the dancer and singers band so she can visit the palace more often but Tracy had just been grateful and never did anything against them.

At that moment, Axel reached the house Tracy had gone to the market and Laura was left alone at home to have a proper rest but instead a old book had caught her attention in Tracy library. The book looked like it hasn't been read for days, she blew the dust off the book and open the front page.

It was boldly written 'Discovery of the witches'. What is she doing with a book like this?, she had just open few pages when the knock on the door distracted her.

"Who is there!" She had called out before she gasped knowing she was the only one at home.

"Is Madam Tracy around?" the voice replied, she almost fell off the couch when she recognized the voice at Axel. What is he doing here?, Did Cora found out already?.

She quickly grab one of her dress and covered her mouth before talking.

"She is currently not around, is there any message I need to deliver to her?" She asked, her voice sounded thick unlike her usual sharp, high pitched voice.

"Nevermind, I will come later" Axel replied, and she heard footstep of a leg fade away slowly.

She let out the breathe she had been holding since he heard his voice and quickly ran off from the living room to the basement back but just as she place the book on the empty chair a loud bang cut her attention.

Someone had forcefully entered the house!.

who could that be?
