Chapter 96: Chapter 96
Liam stood by the window of his bedroom as he pulled his phone out of his pocket. He went through his contacts and dialled Amy's number. She picked at the second ring. "Hello," her summer riched voice said through the phone.
"Hey, Amy," he responded as he looked at the horizon.
"Liam. I was about to call you. You are not in the office. Why?" She asked.
"That's why I called. Cancel all of my appointments. I won't be coming in today,"
"Why? Are you sick?"
"Um.. yeah. I'm taking the day off," he lied gullibly. The reason why he wasn't coming to the office was to steady his mind. His heart kept fluttering every now and then whenever he was around her. "You don't need to hang around the office since I'm not there. You can resume tomorrow," he added.
"Okay, sure. Do you have medications? Do you want me to drop by?" She asked.
"No," he quickly declined. "I'll be fine, and I've got medications. It's nothing serious,"
"Okay. I'll see you tomorrow then," she said and the line dropped dead.
Liam sighed as he strolled through his contacts again. He stared at Cole's number, contemplating on if he should call or not. He had a sense of guilt panging down his throat. For some time now, he had not reached out to Cole. Since their last clash when Amy had ran away, neither of them had spoken to each other.
He swallowed. He would have to call Cole sooner because of the contract and from there, he would congratulate him properly on his engagement. These were the thoughts that ran through Liam's mind as he finally dialled Cole's number.
Cole picked at the third ring. "I thought you would never call," he said. He was seated in his private jet. They were about to take off to New York.
"That's why it is called a smartphone, Cole. It goes both ways," Liam replied. He wasn't about to get the blame shifted on him. After all, Cole didn't call him either since then.
"It really does. If you're calling concerning the contract, we'll go over it as soon as I get back," Cole said.
Liam sighed inaudibly. They could both feel their friendship going down the drain and the next words either of them say, could either salvage their friendship or break it.
"I'm not calling because of the contract," Liam replied.
"What then?" Cole asked, looking at his watch. His assistant walked over to him with a tabloid. She wanted to go over the conference meeting with him, but he raised a finger, signalling for her to go back and she did so.
"Congratulations on your engagement," Liam finally said and it felt like a heavy burden was lifted off his chest.
"Was waiting for like forever to hear my best friend congratulate me. Thank you, brother," Cole replied, a little smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.
Even though Cole couldn't see him, Liam had a little smile on his face too. Hearing Cole call him brother again made him feel relaxed and less tensed talking to him. "We should hang out. Celebrate your engagement," he said.
"We will have that congratulatory drink when I get back,"
"Makes me want to ask where you're headed. I think I can hear the blades of a plane,"
"Off to New York for business,"
"Alright. Let me know when you get there,"
"Yes, girlfriend," Cole teased and Liam chuckled as the call dropped.
Liam heaved deeply, feeling at ease for clearing his conscience.

Amy groaned as she walked into the big and empty house. She fell on the couch and heaved deeply. She immediately felt bored. There was not the laughter of Tris echoing through the walls or the mesmerizing presence of Cole in the house.
Despite staying in the office till noon before coming home, Amy realized she won't be able to survive in the house alone without her babies. At this point, she was beginning to miss Kayla more than before.
Kicking off her shoes, she picked them up and walked up the stairs, already dreaming about the long time she would spend in the bathtub.
•
Amy finally got out of the bathtub and got dressed up in shorts and one of Cole's round necked Polo. She went into the kitchen to make cereal. She was already stuffing her mouth with the cereals when her phone rang. It was Cole, calling her on video call.
She picked it up. "Hey, landed already?" she asked as she chewed her cereal.
"Yes, love. What are you eating?" He asked. He was already in his apartment. The apartment he was in while he was in New York.
She raised the bowl to him. "Cereal," she replied as she angled her phone somewhere and stood in front of it eating her cereal. Before the engagement, he had gotten rid of her old phone and got her a new one.
He raised a brow. "Would that be enough?"
"For now,"
"Why aren't you at work?" He inquired, realizing that it was too early for her to be back home.
"Liam took the day off and gave me the day off too. He's..."
"Is that my shirt?" He cut her short, noticing his polo for the first time since the video call.
She laughed. "Yes. Should I take it off?"
"In front of me? Yes," he responded.
She laughed again. "No, silly. I meant if you want me to go keep it back, "
"Don't. I like it. Looks better on you,"
She blushed. "It's comfy and it helps me feel you're close by,"
He gave a boyish grin. "Then, wear them all and think of me,"
She chuckled. "I will,"
"You were talking about Liam. What did you say?" He asked, suddenly interested in the conversation about Liam.
"Oh, well, he's sick so he took the day off and said I should too," she explained.
"That's sudden. I'll speak to him,"
"Okay,"
"I've got to go now. I'll call you later and if I don't, assume that I have been abducted and send for help. Be among the rescue team though," he teased with a chuckle.
She laughed. "I definitely will,"
"I love you,"
"I love you too," she responded with a smile and the video call ended.
She smiled childishly as she washed the dish. She was wiping her hands clean when she heard the doorbell.
Astonished, she walked out of the kitchen, wondering who was at the door. Tris was still at the pack house and would not be back till tomorrow and Cole was already in New York. She checked the security cam on the wall and saw that it was Kayla.
"Oh my goodness!" She squealed as she opened the door. "Kayla!"
"Hey, bestie," Kayla grinned and they hugged each other tightly.
"It's so good to see you!" Amy said excitedly.
"Same here," she replied as they pulled apart.
"Come in," Amy said as they both walked into the house. "You were the least person I expected to see, Kay. You just got married and you're here to see me,"
Kayla grinned as she went over to the sofa and fell flat on it. "Before you bombard me with questions, get me some wine," she said amidst her laughs.
"Yes, Luna," Amy responded and they both laughed as Amy walked into the kitchen. A few minutes later, she returned with the wine and handed it over to Kayla.
Kayla sat up. "Thank you," she said as she sipped from the glass with Amy sitting beside her. "So, you're the only one in this huge house?" She asked as she looked around.
Amy sighed with a smile. "Yeah, for now. The only time there's anyone else aside from Tris and Cole is when the omegas come over to clean the house,"
"The Luna life," Kayla smiled.
"So tell me why you're visiting already when it's just a week ago you got married and how did you know this place?" Amy asked.
Kayla readjusted on the couch. "Well, Paul's gamma drove me here and would pick me up when I'm ready to go home. I got the address from Cole and for your first question, I got bored of the Luna life at the pack house. Besides, the honeymoon is over. What more is there to do when we've done all of that before marriage?" She asked with a devilish twink.
Amy laughed. "You're crazy. I've missed you so much,"
"Me too,"
"So, what gift did Cole give to you for your wedding. I'm curious. He wouldn't say,"
Kayla laughed. "That mate of yours is crazy!"
"What gift? Tell me," Amy was more curious than before.
"For the pre wedding gift, he actually gifted a painting of Paul and I, a trip to the Maldives with everything paid in his name with the inscription 'a gift from the Darrel's family' which is you and him,"
"Aww, that's so sweet of him," Amy's heart melted.
"Listen to the crazy part," Kayla said and began to laugh. "And for the wedding gift, he literally gifted me a set of kinky stuffs,"
"No way," Amy was surprised as they began to laugh all over again.
"He said he knows I'm a crazy person and the kinky stuffs was the best gift for my honeymoon,"
"Okay, that's crazy," Amy replied amidst her laughter.
Kayla grinned. "Well, that aside, I saw a ladylike range Rover at the parking lot and I know Cole wouldn't be caught dead in ladies colors,"
Amy grinned. "It's mine. Cole gifted me,"
Kayla squealed. "Oh my fucking moon goddess! We've got to celebrate!"
Amy laughed. "Calm down, Kay, "
"I've gotten an idea. Let's go on a shopping spree," Kay suggested, smiling.
"Kay!" Amy said, astonished.
"What? We're no longer omegas. We're Lunas now," she said with a shrug.
"I've got Cole's credit card," Amy replied, smiling innocently.
Kayla's eyes glowed. "I've got Paul's too,"
"I'll get dressed," Amy replied, getting off the couch and Kayla squealed in delight.
Amy chuckled as she went upstairs to change. She returned a few minutes later.
"Let's go," she said to Kayla. Together they walked towards the door. Amy opened the door and stopped in her tracks when she saw Shantel standing in front of the door. What's she doing here? Amy wondered as their eyes met.
