Chapter 128: Chapter 128

It was a day before Christmas Eve and Cole was finally ready to tell the pack members of his decision. Firstly, he had to do something he should have done a long time ago. Talk to his father.

Cole inhaled deeply as he stood in front of his father’s ward. It was now or never. Cole opened the door, and there laid his father with no one by his side. Kathy had gone to the luncheon for some for some food.

He walked closer to the where his father was. Mr Darrel was looking pale and way older than before. Cole stood beside his bed.

How was he suppose to begin? He didn’t know where to start from? Should he start from the beginning?

“Start from anywhere,” his wolf said to him.

He heaved as he looked at the oxygen mask over his father’s face. “You haven’t been the best of fathers, but you do not deserve to be laying on this bed struggling for life. Time does seem to fly, father. It’s been years since you tortured me, and it’s crazy how I never grew up to having thoughts of murdering you. All I had wanted was to be away from you. I’m glad that you didn’t breed a monster out of me,” Cole said as he went on his knees and held Mr Darrel’s hand.

“All those years you thought you were disciplining me, made me grew more distant away from you than I already was. I hated you all those years, and those hates dimmed my light. Those hates I carried in my heart were like a heavy burden I alone had to bear. I carried so much of it, including anger against you for so long. I didn’t consider you a father even thought I had to call you one. There was no one to tell me that I was too young to carry such hate in my heart, until I met Amy. I finally found light in my darkness. Despite the fact I couldn’t live properly because of the absent of a fatherly love and a motherly one, she still found me worthy,” he sighed and looked at his father.

“Today, I want to let go of those grudges. Those hates that threatened to consume me every day. I forgive you for all the torments and torture you inflicted on me during my childhood. I hold no more grudge against you. I promise to uphold the family’s name and not bring you further disgrace. But for now, you need to wake up and live the rest of your life having fun with your grandchildren. Tris misses you a lot. You need to see Alexis too, and how the both of them have a cat and mouse game going on between them,” he chuckled at his last words as his voice broke.

“You know, Amy and the kids are the best things that have ever happened to me. I live for them. Thank you for giving me your blessings when you found out about her,” Cole continued as he kissed his father’s hand. “I miss you, father, and I can’t wait to see you on your feet,” he said as he stood up. “Until we meet again,” he added as he stared at him for a few fleeting minutes before walking out of the ward. His heart felt light as if a burden had been taken off his shoulders.

On his sick bed, Mr Darrel’s fingers flickered as a tear slipped from the corner of his eyes and ran down his ears.

Cole got into his car and swallowed hard. Forgiveness. That was all he needed to heal. He leaned into his seat for a few minutes before calling Greg.

Greg answered at the first ring.

“Greg, inform the pack that I would be moving into the pack house tomorrow,” Cole said into the phone.

“Alright, alpha,” Greg replied and the call ended.

Cole drove in the direction of his house. He wanted his family to have their first Christmas at the pack house. It would create a good memory, not just for him, but for them too. He smiled at the thought.

He arrived home and Amy was with Alexia. “Hey, love,” he kissed her cheek.

She smiled. “Welcome,”

As soon as Alexia saw him, she lifted her tiny arms up and babbled.

Cole chuckled as he carried her from Amy. “Hey, baby girl,” he kissed her cheek, smiling and she giggled. “Where’s Tris?” He asked.

“In his room, playing video games,” Amy replied.

“Without me? How could he?” Cole feigned his feeling of betrayal.

Amy laughed. “You can still join him. I’ll fix you both some snacks,”

He kissed her on the lips. “Sounds lovely,” he looked at her and smiled.

She took Alexia from him. “Go on,” she replied.

He grinned as he raced up the stairs. Amy strapped Alexis in her stroller. She rolled the stroller into the kitchen.

“Be a good girl while I make some snacks, okay?” Amy smiled at her and Alexia giggled.

“You’ve been distant, Paul,” Kayla said as Paul walked into the room to pick his coat.

“I’ve been busy,” he replied coldly as he took the coat from the closet.

“Busy with what? You’re not the only alpha in the world. Yet, you don’t have time for me. Is this how I’m supposed to get pregnant?” She demanded.

Lately, his habit had become worse. She barely saw of him. He rarely slept in the room with her. She was hurt, but believed if she had a child, she would be comforted.

“And all the time we’ve been trying, has it amounted to anything?” He asked, his piercing gaze on her as he looked in her direction.

“Is this what this is all about?” She asked, heart wrenching into tiny bits. “Is this why you are barely around me?”

He was silent for a few seconds. “Yes,”

She swallowed hard. “How can I get pregnant when you’re always away? Don’t you think I want a child too?” She asked, her voice breaking.

He turned away. “I don’t have time for this,” he replied, and walked out of the room before she could say anything else. As soon as the door closed, he leaned on it and closed his eyes. How could he tell her the truth? He was still very much in love with her, but would she continue to be with him after finding out what he hid from her all these years?

Kayla fell on the bed as she bursts into tears. It wasn’t her fault she wasn’t getting pregnant. Why was Paul no longer understanding? She sobbed.

Cole laid in bed with Amy when his ears picked up some noises. He eased Amy out of his arms as he got out of bed. Slowly, he reached for the door, and as he opened it, ready to attack who ever was invading the house, he saw Tris coming towards the door.

“Tris?” He called.

“Dad, I can’t sleep. I had a nightmare. Can I sleep in you and Mom’s room?” Tris asked.

“Oh, alright,” Cole said, opening the door for him. “Was it that bad?” He asked.

Tris nodded as he walked into the room. Amy woke up as Cole closed the door. “Everything okay?” She asked, sleepy eyed.

“Tris had a nightmare, so he’ll be sleeping here tonight,” Cole replied.

“Oh, Tris…” Amy didn’t get to finish her words as something got thrown into the window, shattering it.

Tris let out a scream as Amy panicked and rushed out of the bed, holding him. It was a smoke bomb and the smoke was filling up the room.

“Alexia!” Cole rushed over to her cradle and picked her up. The smoke bomb was mixed with wolfsbane and they all started to cough.

Amy’s eyes became teary from the smoke as the wolfsbane pierced into her skin the more.

Cole needed a safe place for them, especially Alexia. She was too young to inhale wolfsbane. It would lead to her death. Alexia was already crying.

Covering her nose, he went over to his closet and opened it, pushing aside a box, he pressed a lock just as Nicole dashed into the room.

“They’re coming!” She panicked. The smoke bomb had woke her up too, and as she ran out of her room, she had seen some men breaking into the house.

Cole looked at Amy, and he knew the day he dreaded the most was here. The closet gave way to a passageway.

“Get in,” he told Tris and Tris went in. He gave Alexis to Nicole. “You too,” he added. She went into the secret passageway.

He turned to Amy. “Go,” he said.

“I’m not going without you,” she replied.

“Please,” he pleaded, trying to force her into the passageway. But she refused.

Just then, the men entered the room, and Cole rushed out of the closet to fight them, and prevent them from going into the closet.

Amy turned over to her children with a sad smile on her face. “I love you both, and I’ll always love you,”

“Mom, no!” Tris screamed out as Amy clicked on the lock and the closet immediately went back to the way it was.

Cole fought with his strength against these men, six in number, but the wolfsbane had weakened him. He was no longer strong and he couldn’t shift into his wolf.

He was subdued, and one of the men went into the closet and pulled Amy out by the hair. Seeing this, Cole began to fight against these men again. He freed himself from the men after a serious fight and he immediately attacked the one holding Amy. Amy rushed over to her phone to call anyone. Anyone who could help them, and as she dialed Kayla’s number, she saw Cole get stabbed in the stomach. She gasped in shock and rushed over to him, she was immediately hit in the head and everywhere blacked out.

Kayla stood beside Paul’s wardrobe, her hands trembling in pain, hurt and betrayal. In her hands was her mother’s necklace. Her parents had died in a car accident. What was her mother’s necklace doing in Paul’s wardrobe?

Tears streamed down her cheeks. Was he responsible? She had found it difficult to sleep and had decided to clear out Paul’s clothes for laundry tomorrow until she found her mother’s necklace in a box. She had thought it was just a replica, until she saw her picture and that of hers and her father in the locket.

Just then, Paul walked into the room, as he saw the necklace in Kayla’s hands, he panicked.

“What is my mother’s necklace doing in your wardrobe?” She asked. He kept quiet. “Answer me!” She yelled, tears rolling down her eyes.
