Chapter 119: Chapter 119

Kayla rushed into the hospital and hurried over to the reception. “Hello, my name is Kayla Keith, and I’m here to see my friend. Amy Darrel. She was brought in here about six hours ago,” she said to the nurse on duty.

“Hold, please. Let me check,” the nurse replied as she checked the patients files. “Yes, she’s in ward three and her son is in ward five,” the nurse said. “But, you can’t go in to see her now except you get a permit from the doctor,” she added.

“Why?” Kayla was panicking.

“She’s in a critical condition and hasn’t woken up since she was brought in,” the nurse explained.

“Oh my goodness,” Kayla gasped in fear.

“But, her son is awake,” the nurse said.

“I’ll go see him now,” Kayla replied and hurried over to ward five.

She walked into the ward and there was Tris with an IV attached to his arm and bandages on his legs.

She gasped in tears. “Oh, Tris,”

“Aunt Kayla,” Tris said tearfully as he saw her. She rushed over to him and held his free hand.

“Are you okay? Are you badly hurt?” Kayla asked, looking over his body.

He shook his head. “No…mom covered me,” he was about to cry again.

Tears gathered Kayla’s eyes. “You’ll be fine, okay? The doctors will take care of you,” she assured him with a sad smile.

Cole ran back to the jet and Greg followed him. “Alpha, where are you going?!” He yelled.

“Back to New Orleans. My family needs me,” he said, tears choking his throat and threatening to surface.

“But, we have a meeting,” Greg reminded him.

Cole turned to him. “Fuck the meeting! Amy and Tris are in the hospital. I should never have left them alone,” he replied in agitation, pain and regret.

Greg moved back as he couldn’t believe what was happening. If Cole didn’t attend all these meetings, his position as the head of the company would be greatly threatened.

“Go, alpha. I’ll stay back,” Greg said.

Cole swallowed and turned away, entering the jet. He gave command to the pilot and the jet took off again.

By now, the news of Amy’s accident was on every channel and blog. Kathy and Mr Darrel got to hear of it and came to the hospital, so did Liam.

Kayla was coming out of the doctor’s office when she saw them. “How are they? How’s my daughter and my grandson?” Kathy asked amidst her tears.

“Tris is fine, but Amy is in a coma,” Kayla replied.

“No,” Kathy gasped in horror.

“They don’t know when she will wake up,” she said and rubbed her arms together. “She was found covering Tris, so most of the impact of the accident was on her,” Kayla explained. She wanted to say something else but couldn’t bring herself to.

Kathy was shaking her head in tears as she fell on the seat crying. Mr Darrel’s head was bowed in resignation and Liam didn’t know how to react to the news while Kayla consoled Kathy.

“Does Cole know about this?” Liam asked.

“A call has been put through to him. He’s on his way,” Kayla replied.

Cole rushed into the hospital. He had arrived at New Orleans Eleven: Forty-Five PM.

“Where is my wife?” He demanded from the nurse at the reception.

They knew him and they knew who exactly he was looking for.

“She’s in ward Five, but you can’t go…”

Cole didn’t let her finish when he dashed into the hallway. He saw Liam and Kayla outside her ward and there was security on standby.

He ignored them all and proceeded to go in. “You can’t go in yet,” the security stopped him.

“I need to see my wife,” Cole raised his voice.

“Cole, you can’t see her now. It’s the doctor’s orders,” Kayla said to him.

“Fuck the doctor’s orders!” Cole was breaking apart. He subdued the security and went into the ward.

“Cole!” Kayla and Liam called after him.

He didn’t turn back, instead he stood rooted to the floor when he saw his beloved laying on the bed, bandages around her head, arms, legs and a cervical collar on her neck. An IV was attached to her hand, and her eyes were closed. Cuts were on her face.

Immediately, he broke down as he fell to his knees and those tears he fought so hard against, cascaded down his face.

“You’re not supposed to be here,” the doctor said, walking in.

“Please, just five minutes with her,” Cole pleaded.

“She’s not stable yet, alpha. She doesn’t need anything to trigger her right now,” the doctor said.

“Please,” Cole pleaded again, his throat croaked with tears.

“Two minutes, alpha,” the doctor said and went out of the room.

Guilt tugged at his heart and he couldn’t go closer to her. He reached for her hand, but refrained, finding himself unworthy. It was all his fault. He blamed himself. If he had not gone out with Shantel, she wouldn’t have gotten pregnant and Amy wouldn’t have tried to leave him. “I’m sorry,” he choked out. “Please, forgive me, Amy,” he placed his hands on the bed’s frame and sobbed.

Cole walked into Tris ward and found him sleeping. He had bruises on his face too. Cole carefully touched his hair and pulled back wayward strands on his face. Tris opened his eyes as the soothing touch stirred him up.

“Dad?” Tris called quietly.

Cole crouched down. “I’m here,” he smiled sadly.

“Is mommy okay?” Tris asked.

Cole swallowed and touched Tris’s hair gingerly again. “Mommy will be fine. Can you tell me what happened?” He asked.

“Mom said we were going somewhere. I asked her if you knew, she said nobody must know…and all of a sudden… something hit us… and mom covered me,” Tris said, tears gathering his eyes again as he remembered.

“Don’t cry. Don’t think of it anymore,” Cole said to him and he nodded. “You’ll be fine and so would mom, okay?”

Tris nodded. “Is she awake now?” He asked.

“She will soon be. Be fine for mommy okay? So when she wakes up, she won’t worry about you,” Cole said softly.

Tris nodded, and closed his eyes as Cole placed a kiss on his head.

“Where have you been?” Liam asked Cole as he leaned on the wall.

“I went on a business trip. I was in Los Angeles when I got the call,” Cole replied.

“Nothing must happen to Amy, Cole. Nothing,” Kathy said. She and mr Darrel had earlier been in Tris ward when Cole had arrived.

He nodded. “Nothing will,”

“Where was she going with Tris? Did you both have a fight?” Kayla asked.

Cole didn’t know what to say. Just then, the doctor came by and checked Amy again. After a few minutes, he came out and Cole went to him. “Is she going to be okay?” He asked.

“Her heart rate seems okay now, but we’ll keep monitoring her,” the doctor replied.

“When will she wake up?” Kayla asked.

“That’s what we’re not able to detect now. We’ll keep monitoring her and see if there’s any progress. The effect of the accident caused her to have a brain concussion. This is why we can’t tell when she would wake up,”

Cole swallowed hard and looked away.

“Alpha Cole?” The doctor called and Cole turned to look at him.

“I’m sorry for your loss,” he said.

“What?” Cole was stunned by what he said and so was everyone else except Kayla. She knew what he was talking about.

The doctor was perplexed. “She didn’t tell you?” He asked, looking in Kayla’s direction. Kayla shrugged as everyone looked at her.

“Tell me what?” Cole asked, anxiety taking over him.

“She lost her baby,” he said and Cole stared at him, blood draining out of face as he went pale immediately.
