Chapter 116: Chapter 116
That night, as Cole and Amy slept in his room, he kept tossing around on the bed. He sweated profusely. “No, father, no,” he muttered in his sleep.
Amy open her eyes and saw that he was in a delirious dream. She held him in her arms and soothed him. “This too shall pass,” she whispered softly to him and he went silent.

Mr Darrel smiled as he watched Amy and Cole walk down the stairs the next morning.
“Good morning, father,” Amy greeted.
“Good morning,” he replied with a smile. “About to leave?” He asked.
“Yes, father,” she replied.
Mr Darrel turned to Cole. “Is it not about time you returned to the pack house with your family. It’s time for you to take your responsibilities seriously,”
Cole stared at his father. “You’re still pretty much alive. I’m sure the pack is still in your capable hands,” he replied and took Amy’s hand and led her out of the pack house.
Mr Darrel watched them leave with a sigh.
They got into the car and as Cole drove towards the direction of home, Amy looked at him, contemplating on if she should ask him the thoughts that bothered her mind.
“Go ahead, say it,” he said.
“Uh?” She was taken aback.
“You have questions you want to ask. I’m listening,” he replied.
He must have heard her thoughts. “Well, I wanted to ask why you don’t live in the pack house,”
“Because I don’t want to,” he replied simply.
“And last night?” She asked.
“What about last night?” He reiterated.
She looked away. “It was like you had a nightmare,” she replied.
He swallowed. “It happens every now and then,”
“But, I haven’t seen you have a nightmare while in the house,” she said.
He exhaled. “I don’t know how to explain that,” he replied, and she didn’t ask him any further questions.

“What?” Shantel exclaimed in shock. Her phone was on her ear as she listened to what her informant said. “That’s alright. Thank you,” she said and ended the call.
“What was that all about?” Mira asked as she sat on the couch eating some crackers.
“I’ve just been told that Cole and Amy got married at the Dark Moon pack. Something like it’s a tradition the Dark Moon pack observes before any other thing,”
“Wow, Shantel. Do you think you can separate Cole and Amy after this?” She asked.
“I will, Mira. After all, I’m pregnant. This pregnancy is enough to break them apart,” Shantel replied as she sat down.
“I don’t think Amy knows about your pregnancy, if not, why would she marry Cole?” Mira thought out loud and Shantel swirled her phone around. A devilish twinkle in her eyes.

“Mom!” Tris screamed in excitement as he got into the house and found Amy sitting in the living room. He ran over to her and hugged her tightly. Nicole curtsied and Amy waved at her.
She chuckled. “Hey, baby. How was school?”
“It was great, mom. I missed you. I didn’t see you yesterday. Dad called and said you both were at the pack house,” Tris said.
Amy nodded. “Yes, we were,” she replied.
He pulled away. “Where’s dad?” He asked.
“Upstairs,” she said.
“He didn’t go to work today?” He asked.
She nodded. “You should go freshen up. I made you some jambalaya,” she said with a smile.
He grinned. “Thanks, mom,” he replied and kissed her cheek as he dashed towards the stairs.
“Don’t run. You’ll hurt yourself!” Nicole called after him, but he ignored her and laughed.

Amy walked into the room and she saw Cole standing by the window on a call. He turned to look in her direction. “Alright. I’ll go now,” he said and ended the call.
He looked at her and she maintained the eye contact. “Dinner is ready,” she said and turned to walk away. She didn’t know what else to say to him. He was keeping things away from her and she knew it, but couldn’t force him to say anything.
“Amy, I have something to tell you,” he finally said.
She sighed. The long awaited time had finally come. She turned around. “Okay,” she replied.
He swallowed. “I’ll be traveling in two days time for a business trip,”
She narrowed her eyes. This wasn’t what she was expecting. “Why?” She asked.
“One of the shareholders is becoming rebellious and wants to take my position as the head of the company. I want to speak to our international partners to be sure I have their votes for the upcoming election for the seat,” He explained.
“Why would he try to take your position?” She asked.
“It’s not a new thing. This always happens in the business world,”
“Okay. When are you coming back?” She asked.
“I’m hoping three days is enough to talk and convince them, but it could be more than that,”
“When are you coming back, Cole?” She reiterated, more seriously.
“I’ll be gone for a maximum of five days,” he replied. He could sense she didn’t want history replaying again.
“Will the wedding still hold?” She asked him.
He raked his hair with his fingers. “About that, we would have to adjourn it till the company is settled,”
She lifted her brow. “Really?”
He walked over to her. “Come on now. I promise this will be the last postponement,” he said as he held her arms.
She sighed. “Okay, I’ll miss you,” she said with a sad smile.
Cole’s heart tugged. “There’s something else I want to tell you,” he replied. He no longer wanted to keep secrets from her.
She stared at him as she sensed that she would not like this next confession.
Just then, they heard commotion outside which made Amy move away from him. “What’s that?” She asked.
Cole narrowed his eyes. “I’m sure it’s something the sentinels can handle,” he replied.
“Let’s take a look,” she said, walking away.
“What I have to say is really important, Amy,”
“Yes, but we could be in danger,” she replied as she walked out of the room and down the stairs. Cole groaned as he followed her. He had just lost his chance of telling her about Shantel’s pregnancy.
Amy got out of the house and there was Shantel struggling with the sentinels by the door.
“Let her be,” Amy said to them as she wondered what brought Shantel to the house. They let go of her.
“Just the woman I want to see,” Shantel said as she adjusted her coat.
“What is it you want?” Amy asked.
“First of all, you and Cole owe me a public apology for false allegations,”
Amy realized it was about her abduction. “That would be addressed. Anything else?” She asked.
“What’s going on here?” Cole asked as he walked closer to Amy. Then, he saw Shantel. He fidgeted immediately. “What are you doing here?” He asked. Her presence only meant trouble.
“She came to tell us to make a public apology for falsely accusing her for my kidnap,” Amy replied.
“And to tell you that I’m expecting Cole’s child,” Shantel dropped the bombshell without hesitation.
“What?” Amy was taken aback.
“Yes. Isn’t that right, Cole?” Shantel asked him saucily.
The camaraderie was broken as Amy looked from Shantel to Cole. The guilt in his eyes said it all. “You knew about this?”
“I just found out. Believe me, Amy” he said and she took a step back from him.
She asked, her heart in her throat. “When were you going to tell me about this?”
“I was just about to,” he didn’t know what to do. He was losing it and he could feel every bit of emotions building inside of her.
“I can’t believe this,” Amy muttered. She couldn’t believe this was happening to her. “I can’t believe this,” she reiterated.
“Amy, please,” he pleaded as he went to hold her.
“Don’t fucking touch me. Don’t you dare!” She warned. Her lips trembling as she fought back her tears.
“I’m not even sure the child is mine! In about four weeks it would be confirmed if the child is really mine,” Cole tried to reassure her.
Shantel was glad to see them fighting as she smirked.
“She’s pregnant, Cole. For you,” Amy said, blinking back her tears.
“The baby isn’t mine. I’m sure of it. I’m not accepting her or the baby,” he replied in a serious note.
“What if the baby is yours?” Amy asked, the tears she fought so hard against, gathered in her eyes and ready to drop. “What then?” She reiterated, and Cole was silent. He didn’t know what to do or say. He was confused.
“I thought as much,” Amy replied as she walked away, back into the house. Cole felt he had disappointed her again. He was always a disappointment. First to his father, and now, to the love of his life.
