Chapter 44: Chapter 44
CHAPTER FORTY FOUR
ROXANNE
I was startled when I heard the Alpha sent for me. He hadn't spoken to me in a while which I was trying to adapt to because he was the Alpha and I was one of his subjects. I had to get used to not being around my Alpha and Beta all the time.
I hastily jumped out of bed, forgetting I was still in my pyjamas at twelve noon. I was finding it hard to decide if it was because i wasn't a morning person, or because I was a lazy person.
“He's in his office, just knock at the door,” Beta Miles said before disappearing.
I sucked in my breath and after lots of contemplation, I knocked at the door before slowly opening it.
This man had a habit of not responding but shouting when someone didn't knock before entering. “Alpha, you sent for me,” I said while waiting at the door.
“Sit,” He said, motioning at the chair opposite his.
I reluctantly sat down and stared at him, catching a whiff of his scent. I didn't know why but today he looked unbearably handsome even with the scowl on his face. Does he get hotter every time we don't see?
He tore his eyes away from the book he was reading and set them on me. “It's twelve noon,” he said.
I furrowed my brows at him. “I know.”
“You're still in your pyjamas,” he pointed out.
“It's comfortable,” I say flatly, crossing my arms on my chest. “You asked to see me.”
He nodded and fixed his eyes on me, his nose twitching as if trying to pick a scent. I froze. Did he perceive my morning breath? Or was my armpit reeking? As much as I wanted to tilt my head to find out, I had to maintain composure.
“Do you smell that?” He asked, meeting my eyes sternly.
I went beetred in the face as I stared at him. “Smell what, Alpha?”
“Chocolate and vanilla,” he said, still staring at me sternly.
Whew! Or was it a joke?
“It's coming from you,” he said, watching me closely.
Was he joking? Because I reeked of sweat. “Oh, it must be my shampoo.”
“I've thought about your request and I've decided to let you train. So get ready, fix that hair and have it away from your face. Better still, put it in a bun and wear free clothes that you can move freely in.”
I jumped to my feet. “It's not a joke is it?”
“I'm too busy to joke for now, Beta Miles will introduce you to the team. Don't screw it up.”
I jumped from my chair and kissed him on the cheek. “I promise I'll not fuck it up.”
***
I walked confidently with Beta Miles to the gathering of the warriors. They all had a uniform but I didn't have one because I was new and my progress during sparring was going to decide if I would join them or get kicked out.
They all stared at me and began whispering amongst themselves like I expected.
“Everyone, can I have your attention?” Beta Miles said.
That was when they decided to protest. They began talking at the top of their voices. “Isn't that the lunatic the Alpha brought to this pack?” Someone asked.
I smiled. “Yeah that's me and I'll shove my fist down your mouth of you don't shut the fuck up. Your Beta wants your fucking attention.”
There was a loud roar but it worked. They all went silent and shot me death glares.
Beta Miles squeezed my hand and I winced. “I'm sorry,” I whispered so low only he could hear.
“Can I get your attention, everyone?” Beta Miles tried again and this time everyone focused.
“As the Beta and the trainer of this pack, I'm here to introduce a new member to us,” He said and motioned for me to step forward and I did. “This is Roxanne and she's going to be joining us for today's training. Welcome her, be nice to her and show her how it's done.”
“We don't want her,” someone said.
I looked and it was a blond girl. She looked at Beta Miles and she stepped forward. “I'm also a trainer and I'm sorry but Lunatics aren't welcomed here. They belong in the Asylum.”
Everyone burst out laughing and it triggered a fresh anger in me. I rushed to the girl and looked her in the eyes. She was quite small but a few inches taller than me.
“Don't try to be smart with me sweetie,” I said. “Believe me, you won't want to start a fight with me. If you're going to act like a kid then I would treat you like one. Don't think I'll let it go like Beta Miles did.”
The girl scoffed and stared at me defiantly. “Are you challenging me? Do you think I'm scared of you?”
I smirked. “If that's what you call it.”
“There's a reason why I'm your trainer. You don't want to test me,” she warns.
I rubbed my hands together. “I haven't even been accepted yet. So you're not my leader.”
“Easy,” Beta Miles said and turned to me. “Roxanne, you aren't experienced yet. She will beat you up.”
Her name was chaplains, I picked up from the whispers and everyone began warning me not to puss charlaine and telling me to back off.
“Her training starts now,” Charlaine announces in a stern voice. “If I beat her up, she gets kicked out and if she beats me up which I know she won't, she gets to join.”
My heart thumped loudly in my chest. Such dumb bastard.
“Roxanne…” Beta Miles started.
“I'll be fine,” I say fiercely, my eyes never leaving charlaine's.
A whistle blew and suddenly Charlaine lunged for me but I dodged her. “See you running from me,” she teased. “Is that how weak you are?”
I was called weak several times at my previous pack but I had a lot of training. I couldn't care who was going to win but I couldn't let this girl bring me down.
She rushed towards me again without thinking, which was her first mistake. First rule of combat, always look for your enemy's weakness before you attack.
I dodge her but just in time to pummel a punch to her head. She groaned out in pain and proceeded to jab me in the head with her elbow. I cried out. Fuck that shit hurt.
I stepped back and punched her in the nose. She staggered backwards and stared at me with a red eye. She rushed in for me again and knocked me down and the crowd erupted in cheers.
Okay, maybe I had underestimated the power of little women. This asshole did have a lot of strength for that tiny body.
I staggered to my feet, smiling in triumph as I watched blood flow from her nose. “You look like you could make use of a nose job.”
This angers her and she rushes in but I was prepared. I dodged her and struck a blow to her gut. She's so predictable. How was she a trainer when she kept using the same technique?
She smiled in anger and aimed for me with a fisted hand, which she intended to use to pinch me. Predictable much? I grabbed her hands and twisted her arms behind her back, then jabbed her in the small of her back with my knee.
She let out a grunt as I knocked her to the floor. “You're nothing but a disappointment,” she said.
“I should be telling you that,” I said. “For a trainee you suck shit.”
I punched her in the face again. “Do you want to continue?”
She grabbed my hand and bit into it with her canines causing me to let go of her. She forced herself to her feet while I writhed in pain. She smirked at me. “Do you give up?”
No. That was what cowards did and I, Roxanne Colton, wasn't a coward.
“I'm going to fuck you up so bad and send you back to mama in a parcel. She's going to thank me later. Except oh, she's dead,” Charliane taunted.
My mom was dead and she knew it.
I grabbed her by the neck and punched her in the face. “You don't get to talk about my mom,” I punched her in the nose again. “I am really that psychopath that escaped the asylum.”
The atmosphere was intense and the crowds were beginning to fear. We hit each other till we crashed to the ground but I got up in time. I was too angry to feel the pain. I sat on her stomach and punched at her. “Eight moves is all you've got,” I punched her again. “EIGHT FUCKING MOVES bitch and I know them all.”
I was about to give her the final blow when someone roughly pulled me from her. I wanted to yell at them but my voice died in my throat when I saw Ryker staring at me with anger.
“Everyone be dismissed and take charlaine for treatment,” he turned to Beta Miles. “Ensure everything is taken care of.”
Beta Miles nodded and walked off.
“You told me you wouldn't screw this up,” he said, his grip tightening around my wrist.
I was breathing heavily as I watched people take charlaine away. “She talked about me and my mom.”
“You could've killed her,” he said.
I sighed and stared at him apologetically. “I'm sorry.”
But shit I won! I fucking took someone down for the first time. But no one cheered. They looked at me like I had committed a sin.
“She challenged me and it's not my fault she got beaten up. She deserved it,” I said.
Alpha Ryker's grip tightened on my wrists, “you let me down but I'm glad you won. Go get treated, you're a bloody mess.”
I smiled again. “You're proud of me, yeah?”
He grinned. “It's blood moon in two days, go on a date with me.”
I couldn't stop grinning like an idiot. “I'll think about it.”
“It wasn't an option,” he said and walked off.
Fuck it y'all! I just earned myself a date with the Alpha.
