Chapter 88: Chapter 88

Charlotte didn’t let Theo go to the packhouse alone. She instructed Ayleen to close the door and followed Theo outside. The red eyed creatures have sent a letter and there is now way that she is going to let this information reach her the last.

“Have you told Azraiel?” Charlotte asks Theo as they walk towards the packhouse.

“Uh, No.”

Charlotte nods. “Let’s tell him after we find what’s in the letter, okay?”

Theo hummed in agreement.

Azraiel must be getting ready for the dinner party and she really didn’t want him to leave everything and come here which he definitely would, given the uncertain circumstances.

Charlotte walked behind Theo as she didn’t remember the route to the office in the packhouse. Azraiel has shown her the packhouse yesterday but there is no way that she could remember it all in just a day.

As Theo opened the door and entered, she saw Kira and Matt sitting there staring at the table.

“What happened?” Theo asked as he sat down on the empty chair and Charlotte did the same.

“The cameras caught one of the red eyed wolves drop the letter at the exact same place where Azraiel put the letter across the lake.” Matt answered.

“I have sent a few of our warriors to get the letter.” Kira added.

Charlotte was about to open her mouth when someone knocked on the door.

Matt stood up and took the letter from the warrior. He walked back and handed it to Charlotte. She looked up at him in confusion.

“Luna.” He said the title as if to explain everything.

And it did. She was the one with most authority after Azraiel in this pack.

She hesitantly took the envelope. It was plain white paper. She opened it and took out the folded paper. It was small and had only two words written on it in a neat

cursive handwriting.

Congratulations, Alpha.

Charlotte scrunched her eyebrows in confusion. She flipped the envelope to see if she missed anything. It was blank, just blank.

“What does it say?” Kira asks anxiously almost on the edge of her seat.

“Congratulations, Alpha.”

“and?” Matt asks.

“That’s it. There is nothing else written here.” Charlotte tells them.

“Are they congratulating him on finding his mate?” Theo asks, sounding confused and astonished.

“Maybe.” Charlotte mutters.

“What did Azraiel say in his letter to them?” Charlotte asks them.

“He didn’t show us the letter but something along the lines of asking them to communicate what they want with our pack and that he knows they don’t want to hurt us.” Matt says.

“This letter doesn’t sound threatening.” Kira says probably thinking about what she should do next.

“I think we should tell Alpha. None of us actually know what he wrote in that letter. Maybe it’s something related to it and we have no idea what it is about.” Theo

suggests.

Charlotte thinks over his words. “We’ll tell him, but after a few hours. Let’s let him have dinner in peace.”

“Is there anything else that was caught on camera?” She asks Kira, feeling like must know the most about this as she is the head warrior.

“No.” Kira shook her head. “We have been surveilling the area ever since the cameras were installed. They have appeared only twice in the area. Once to pick up the letter that Azraiel left and then to drop this letter today.”

Charlotte nods. “I don’t think this is threatening at all. Azraiel too believes that these creatures don’t mean any harm.”

Everyone in the room agrees but there is an invisible tension in the room and a lot of questions in everyone’s mind.

What is this about?

Are they really just congratulating Azraiel on finding his Luna and mate?

Is this about something in Azraiel’s letter?

“Go home everyone. I’ll tell Azraiel about this. Just keep an eye on the borders.” Charlotte says while she stands up and puts the letter in the envelope.

“I’ll come with you.”Theo says and she almost refuses but then rmembers that’s she really does’t remember the way yet.

Charlotte and Theo walk out of the packhouse in silence and start walking towards Azraiel’s house.

“We are not missing your training tomorrow.” Theo breaks the silence.

Charlotte smiles. “We aren’t. I just couldn’t say no to Ayleen.”

“No one can.” Theo answers with a smile.

When they reach home, Theo leaves after he sees that she is safe inside the house.

Charlotte narrates the content of the letter to Ayleen which was basically just two words.

They both have dinner together while talking about the day they spent which was most likely Ayleen’s way to make sure that she is fine and not worrying about the letter.

After dinner, Ayleen and Charlotte walked out in the backyard where Ayleen showed her wolf. It was like she said, brown and gorgeous. She was smaller than that of Azraiel’s but still bigger than the wolves she saw in the training area. She played with her wolf for a while which Charlotte’s wolf absolutely loved and it sort of eased her mind too.

When she came back, she decided to call Azraiel.

“Hey!” She greets him.

“Hey you! I was waiting for your call. How was your day?” He asks.

“It was great! Ayleen and I did a lot of shopping. Is the dinner party over?” Charlotte asks and walks out in the balcony.

“People are still down there but I came back after eating dinner. I went to the library today, Charlotte and I found a lot of things that might help us.” Charlotte straightened

at that.

“That’s great, Azraiel.”

She decided to tell him. “Something happened here, Azraiel. The red eyed wolves dropped a letter.” She begins.

“What did it say?” Azraiel asks his voice growing serious in an instant.

“Congratulations, Alpha.” Charlotte repeats the words that have been going in her mind ever since she read them.

There is silence for a few seconds. “Was the letter addressed to anyone? Did they mention a name?” Azraiel asks.

“No. just these two words and everything else was blank.” Charlotte answers.

“Okay. We’ll reply after I come back.” Azraiel says and Charlotte agrees.

“I miss you, you know.” Charlotte says, her wolf yearning for her mate.

“I know, and I miss you too.” Azraiel says and she can actually hear the longing in his voice. “I’ll be there soon okay? Till then, just take care of yourself.” Azraiel says.

“Mhm. You too. Love you.”

“Love you too.” Azraiel hangs up after that.

Charlotte journals whatever happened during the day and lies down. It’d be better to just sleep and think about his tomorrow.

She tries really hard to fall asleep but to no avail. She can’t sleep and on top of that her skin feels like its burning.

She puts her hand on her forehead and it really is hot. Thinking that she is coming up with a fever, she splashes cold water on her face and takes the medicine. She spends an hour on the balcony feeling a bit better because of the cold wind. At last, she decided to try again. As she lies down her whole body is covered in sweat. She can actually feel the wet T-shirt sticking on her skin and wetting the bedspread too. She feels tired and drained out of energy. She tries to move but her stomach starts hurting. She writhes in pain for a few minutes, moaning and groaning quietly as to not wake up Ayleen.

The last thing Charlotte remembers is her wolf screaming Azraiel’s name and then everything went black.
