Chapter 89: Chapter 89

Ayleen tossed in her bed for the nth time. She has been trying to sleep for the past hour but sleep seems to hate her at the moment. If Azraiel was here, she would go to his room and sit on the balcony while he did his work in his room. It has been that way for lord knows how long. Whenever she can’t sleep, she goes to her brother. But now, she needs to be careful to not do that. Though Charlotte treats her like her own sister, it doesn’t mean she’d like Ayleen pestering her mate all the time.

Putting the blanket aside, she stands up and makes her way out of the room. After drinking a glass of water, she decides to go out and walk a little.

Ayleen smells him before she sees him.

“Matt?”

He steps out of the shadows.

“What are you doing here?” Ayleen asked confused as to why the pack Beta is here.

“Uh- don’t get angry and don’t tell Charlotte! Um, Alpha wanted me to guard the house tonight.” He scratches his neck.

Ayleen should’ve known.

“And there’s absolutely no way that you are going to disobey his orders.” Ayleen muttered sarcastically.

“Nope!” He said while rocking on his heels.

“Is there someone else inside the house, Ayleen?” Matt suddenly asked looking dead serious.

“Uh..No! It’s just me and Charlotte!” Ayleen answered, confused that why the fuck he would ask that. He can literally sense the presence of people.

“I-I don’t know. I thought I smelled someone else here.” He was behaving strangely, Ayleen noticed.

Matt has always been the quiet one amongst the trio of Azraiel, Matt and Theo but he has always been confident and sure about everything.

“Um, no. I am standing right here and you know what Charlotte smells like.” Ayleen said.

She was about to ask him to leave when she realized something. She tilted her face upwards and sniffed the air.

“Oh God!” Ayleen gasped.

“What’s wrong?” Matt was at her side in an instant.

“I-I think you smelled Charlotte, Matt.”

“What? No..Charlotte doesn’t smell like that.”

“I know.” Ayleen gulped as she said. “I think she is in heat.”

*******

Ayleen sighed as she put the cold and wet cloth on Charlotte’s forehead.

As soon as she realized that the air indeed smelled different and the reason for that was Charlotte, she rushed to her room. Thankfully the door to Azraiel’s room wasn’t locked and she and Matt were able to enter the room.

Charlotte was passed out on her bed. When Ayleen touched her forehead, she was burning hot. The air in the room reeked of her and Matt had to rush out as soon as he entered the room. A female wolf in heat is like that delicious fruit that everyone knows isn’t supposed to be eaten but they wish to eat it anyway. When females are in heat, they suffer from burning heat, hot temperature and terrible body aches. The pain subsides only when the female wolf mates with her mate. The main objective of the heat is actually to get the mates complete the mating.

And since Azraiel found Charlotte approximately a month ago, they were long overdue of that fucking mating process.

She had called her brother a few minutes ago and by the sounds she heard during the call, he was already rushing to leave the King’s castle and come here. But it’ll be morning by the time Azraiel would reach here and till then, she’ll just have to keep Charlotte conscious and all the unmated males away from her.

Matt has already informed Theo and they both have asked the mated wolves to guard the house so that no unmated wolves can try to reach her. Judging from the way Matt’s face changed the minute her scent hit her, Charlotte’s scent was fucking strong, as if it wasn’t strong enough before.

She just hopes her condition doesn’t get worst during the night. It’s bad enough that Azraiel isn’t here, if her condition gets worst, she’ll have to call Dr. Humphrey or Kira.

******

Theo pushed open the door to Matt’s office.

“You okay?” He asks Matt as he watches him gulp down ice cold water.

“No.” He rasps.

Theo knows that heat brings the worst out of people and we are talking about Charlotte here.

“I’ve seen females in heat Theo,” Matt started speaking, his voice sounding like someone is strangling him. “But none- none have had this kind of effect on me. I smelled her way before Ayleen realized that she was in heat.”

Theo took in everything that matt said. If she had this kind of effect on Matt, then he better not go anywhere near her. Even though his wolf has long ago accepted her as his Alpha, his human side still sees her as a woman and he is fucking sure that Azraiel knows that. He’d hate to get killed by Azraiel because he couldn’t contain his curiosity.

“Matt, Go home,” Theo says to his Beta.

Matt just nods and leaves.

Theo stays in the office for an hour, trying to focus on the paperwork and failing miserably. He walks in the packhouse from top to bottom, from left to right so that he can at least get tired and fall asleep. One hour passes by and he just can’t get Charlotte out of his fucking mind.

At last, he gives up!

He walks out of the packhouse and starts walking towards Azraiel’s house. Mated warriors are lined up around the house, on the roof, on the ground, on trees, everywhere! He smells a few unmated males but doesn’t see them.

“Gamma?” A warrior spots him and asks.

“It’s okay. I’m just here to see if everything is okay! You can harm me if I try to enter the house.” Theo answers and walks to the backyard. The window of Azraiel’s room is open and the soft wind carries her scent.

Fuck!

She smells delicious, Theo thinks to himself and then scolds himself for thinking like that about his Luna.

“Ayleen? Is she okay?” He mindlinks Ayleen while standing in the backyard and looking up at the room.

“No, Theo. She is in so much pain. I-I just hope Azraiel comes here fast. I’m afraid she’ll get really weak like this.” Ayleen sounds stressed and he can only imagine how that young girl is handling everything alone.

“Should I send Kira or Katya for help?” Theo asks, almost asking if he should come up?

“No! I don’t think Charlotte would want anyone to be here in this situation. She already feels like she has burdened us enough, if she comes to know that so many people were worried about her all night, she’ll feel even more guilty.”

Theo gets it. He has seen Charlotte beating herself over and over again about the help she has received from everyone in the pack.

“Okay! But tell me if you need anything. I’m in the backyard.” He says.

“What? What the fuck are you doing here Theo? You shouldn’t be here.” Ayleen screams at him through the mindlink.

“Relax! I’m fine and for some fucked up reason, her heat doesn’t affect me.” He answers.

It’s true! He thought he would be lusting after her and sporting a hard-on after smelling Charlotte’s scent but on the contrary, it was anything but that.

Sure, she smells delicious to him and for a brief second he did think something he shouldn’t have but now-after a few minutes of standing here and smelling her scent, he wasn’t turned on as males do after smelling females in heat.

Hell, he just saw Matt and how he was affected by her heat and yet somehow the same scent didn’t work on him like that.

Instead, he was worried. He was worried that she’d get sick, that Azraiel would come too late and by then her body will get weaker. He was worried that this will affect her shift and that they’ll lose her. Even his human side wasn’t a bit lusting after her but was really worried for her wellbeing. Instead of the thoughts that enter one’s mind in situations like this, the only thought in his mind was that he didn’t want to lose her.

He just wanted to march upstairs and hug her so that she could get her strength from him and just get through the night.

“Uh-if you say so! But please Theo, don’t torcher yourself like this and go home if you feel like it’s affecting you too.” Ayleen sounded skeptical about his claim and he can’t blame her.

He sensed a warrior step forward and stand next to him.

“You are not mated.” Norman, a mated warrior who was older than him spoke up.

“I’m not.” Theo didn’t look away from the balcony of Azraiel’s room, the source of her scent.

“I can see you are not affected. I can’t smell your arousal and you don’t look a bit frazzled by this.”

“Your point?” Theo asks with a straight face, his eyes still on Azraiel’s room.

“The question is why the fuck her scent doesn’t affect you a bit when we have literally sent hundreds of unmated wolves away from here in the past fifteen minutes?”

Theo doesn’t look away from the room but asks the same question to himself in his mind.

Why the hell am I not affected when I’m literally the closest to you than any of those hundreds of wolves that they sent away? Why?
