Chapter 86: Chapter 86

Azraiel, Ayleen and Charlotte drove to the packhouse in Azraiel’s car. The party is being held at the packhouse garden. Charlotte smiled as she saw the golden fairy lights hanging down the trees and bushes. It wasn’t much but it was just enough to make it look beautiful for the party. The dinner was set up at one side and on the other was small platform for dancing. The garden wasn’t full yet but there were a few people out there.

Ayleen left them as soon as they reached and Azraiel dragged her to the centre. Slight music was playing in the background and the wind was flowing slowly. Azraiel introduced her to a couple of people and then they just sat down, talking amongst themselves.

Soon, the pack members began to come up and before she knew it the garden was packed.

“Luna!” She turned towards the voice and saw Matt standing there with a bouquet of flowers.

“Matt, Thank you!” She smiled as he handed her the flowers.

“Please just call me Charlotte.” Matt hesitantly nodded after glancing at Azraiel and she elbowed her mate who was staring at Matt with a poker face. That man loved every member of his pack but had a weird fucking way of showing it.

“Hello, my lady. This is for you.” Theo joined the group and handed her a box packed with blue glittering paper.

“Thank you, but you didn’t have to.” Charlotte smiled at him and though she wanted to hug them both she knew it was a bad idea to do so in front of Azraiel as she remembers his reaction when he saw her and Theo hug each other. She’d have to tread lightly on this. She knows he’d never say anything to her but his wolf has been pushing him to mate already and he has been in a dilemma with her situation. It’d be better to not poke the bear right now.

Theo and Matt joined their friends after chatting with Azraiel and Charlotte for a while. Azraiel introduced her to every family, telling her something about them so it’d be easier to remember them. Well, she is sure she can’t remember their names in a day but she’ll try to interact with them more.

Till now she has received multiple invitations for dinner which she declined politely as her shift is nearing and she’d have to follow a strict diet. She also received the invitations to several establishments in the pack including the boutiques, café, restaurants and cinema halls and she promised them a visit after her shift. Making promises for the time after her shift was bold since she has no idea if she’d be even alive but let’s just say that it felt right to say and somehow she and her wolf has come to believe that they’ll live here peacefully for a long time after her shift.

By the time the clock struck 9, the party was in full swing. Children ran across the garden chasing each other and making all kinds of mischief while their parents tried to run after them so they don’t get hurt. Teenagers were huddled in a corner taking photos and laughing at their friends who were now dancing weirdly just for the fun. The elders stuck together in a group and found all the chairs to sit down, chatting amongst themselves and weirdly enough she just somehow knew they were talking about her at some point. The rest of the crowd was just walking by the garden and greeting everyone in their path. Each and every person that has entered till now has first come to her, greeted her and gave her some kind of gift and then left them to themselves. At first, Charlotte said no to gifts but Azraiel explained that this was their way of welcoming her and telling her that they accept her as their Luna and the mother of the pack. After that, she just politely thanked for the gifts and kept them aside. Ayleen dropped by with her friends to introduce them to her and they helped in carrying the gifts to the packhouse.

Remi dropped by too. He gifted her a few medicinal plants, lavender, rosemary and basil.

“Thank you so much.” She said with a smile. It was nice to see familiar faces.

“I always thought that you seemed more powerful than a mere human but I never thought you’ll be our Luna.” He said with a smile.

Charlotte knew what he meant. She has been told that she has a strong aura and even though she doesn’t understand what they mean she knows that they are not saying just for the sake.

“I hope it won’t affect my position at the farm.” She said teasingly.

Remi chuckled, “No, it won’t. You are welcome to work there for as long as you want.”

He left after greeting Azraiel and making some small talk.

By the time the clock hit eleven, her feet felt numb from standing on the heels and she felt like she’d drown in the sea of names of the people she has been introduced to today.

“Relax, I’ll give you the pack directory so that you know their names. Also, it’s perfectly fine if you don’t remember them. They know that you are not going to remember it all in a few hours. Interacting with them is the only way of getting to know them.” Azraiel tried to assure her.

They wrapped the party by 12:30 and Charlotte carried her heels home in her hands because there was no way she could have walked across the garden in them.

Ayleen bid them goodnight and quickly retreated to her room as she looked half drunk and half tired. Charlotte and Azraiel too quickly changed their clothes and jumped on the bed. They were both tired as hell and Azraiel was to leave today for the King’s Castle early in the morning.

“You’ll be back by Sunday evening?” She asked him quietly as her head lay on his chest.

“Yes, I’ll be here by the evening.”

“Be careful okay? I know you want to get information from the library but I don’t want you to get in any trouble because of me.” She expressed her concern.

“Don’t worry. I’ll be careful.”

He pulled her closer and said, “While I am not here, don’t go anywhere without Matt and Theo.” She was about to say that it won’t be necessary but he stopped her. “ I know you don’t want babysitters but please trust me on this. There’s only three weeks left for your shift and I don’t want anything to happen to you. It’d give me some peace of mind to know that they are protecting you or else I won’t be able to do anything there.”

“Okay!” She agreed unwillingly. Well, she’ll be careful but she is sure the pack Beta and Gamma have way more important matters to see than to babysit her.

“Hmm.. Great! Also, my phone will be on all the time so call me if there’s anything wrong or you, if you want to talk.”

“Okay..!” This was the first time he was leaving her alone since he told her about them being mates and it just made her sad. She has been trying to spend as much time with him as possible before her shift because of her obvious fears but it still feels like it’s not enough.

“Will you miss me?” He abruptly asked and she smiled.

“Yes, I will miss you.” She answered feeling a bit sad.

“Good!” She looked up at him at his answer.

“Good?” She asked wondering what’s good about it.

Charlotte felt him smile and push her closer, “Mhm.. Because I’ll miss you too!”
