Chapter 146: Chapter 146
“It-It’s Wolfsbane.”
Both Azraiel and Theo knew what was in the pouch even before Charlotte opened it. That’s why Azraiel pushed it out of her hands.
Since she too is now a wolf, wolfsbane is equally dangerous for her too.
“Leave the room.” Katya looks at them. “All of you. Ask someone from the medical wing to send gloves and sample containers.”
Azraiel nods and the three of them leave the room. Theo instantly mindlinks someone at the medical wing while Azraiel inspects Charlotte’s hands.
“You are not hurt, are you?” he asks gently. His heart thunders in his chest.
“No.” She says quietly, surprisingly calm.
A few minutes pass and a nurse from the medical wing drops the supplies asked for. None of them speak while Katya collects the sample from the pouch and cleans the office from any wolfsbane with her magic.
A few minutes later, she opens the door and says, “Come in. It’s all cleaned up.”
Azraiel exhales and they take their places again.
“So”, Azraiel begins, “A blood stained cloth, a book, a moonstone pendant and wolfsbane.”
“The pendant is encased in silver.” Charlotte remarks eyeing the moonstone laid out on the table.
Azraiel’s brows furrow. “Can I see them?” He asks Charlotte.
Charlotte nods, probably thinking about the contents revealed from the bag.
He carefully picks up the lilac cloth and sniffs it. The smell is faint but still present.
An indescribable look covers his face as he passes the fabric to Theo. “Tell me if you think the same.”
Theo takes it and sniffs it. He pauses in confusion and then sniffs it again.
“It’s werewolf blood.” He says out aloud looking every bit of confused. “It’s probably many years old which is why the smell is faint but the werewolf would have been strong for the smell to last this long.”
“I think it’s my mother’s.” Charlotte says after a moment.
Azraiel and Theo give each other a look that says they already predicted it.
“It could be someone else’s blood too.” Katya says.
Charlotte nods at the possibility. She picks up the book and hands it over to Azraiel. “Do you recognize this language?”
Azraiel takes a look through the book and shakes his head. “No, it’s probably some old language.”
“Can I see it?” Katya asks and Azraiel hands over the book to her.
Katya’s expression’s change as she flips through the book. “I-I think I have seen some of the symbols here in my mother’s journal before. I’ll have to go through them again but I think we can find something related to them.”
“Look through them and ask any one you want to help with the journals.” Azraiel says.
“So, the moonstone with silver and the wolfsbane?” He blurts out the very topic they’ve been trying to not discuss.
“The wolfsbane is mixed with something else.” Katya says. “I’ll have to check what it is but there’s definitely something else in it, otherwise you would’ve smelled it way before she even opened the bag.” Katya explains.
Azraiel’s jaw clenches upon hearing that.
“Silver jewelry and Wolfsbane…harmful things for wolves.”
“Looks like she was trying to keep away wolves.” Theo says and looks at Charlotte.
“May be, but wouldn’t these hurt her too if she was a wolf?” Charlotte asks.
“Yes, but we aren’t sure if these are hers or if she was even a wolf.” Azraiel contemplates.
She nods at him.
For a moment, none of them speaks anything.
These contents just complicated everything more.
Suddenly Charlotte looks up to Azraiel with a new light shining in her eyes.
“What is it?” He asks a little breathlessly.
“What if- what if my mother was a Therian too? Maybe she was a wolf when she was in the werewolf world but in the human lands, she couldn’t be one. Maybe she chose another form for human land and hence needed silver and wolfsbane to keep away the wolves that were chasing her?” She says, hope blooming in her heart.
Theo and Katya nod.
Azraiel contemplates her words and nods to her relief. “It is possible. That would explain why Arthur was unable to ever know that she was a wolf.”
Azraiel looks at Theo and Charlotte knows that they are talking through the mindlink, no doubt deliberating whether they should share the information they have realized through this fiasco with her.
Something flared inside her at the thought of them keeping information from her. In the next second. Everyone in the room freezes and looks at her wearily.
“What?” She asks irritated at the look in their eyes. Fear
“Do you feel that?” Theo asks gently as if afraid his voice would spook her.
“Feel what?” She asks confused at their reaction.
“The temperature.” It is Azraiel that answers her. “The temperature, love. It became really hot in here in just a second. I think it was because of you.” His eyes don’t hold fear, at least not for himself.
Charlotte frowns but pays attention to the room. She swears under her breath as she realizes that they are right.
The room did become insufferably hot.
She gulps. What the hell does this mean? Can she control temperature now?
“What were you feeling just a moment ago?” Katya asks with a knowing look in her eyes.
Charlotte looks her in the eye and doesn’t break the contact, “Irritation and ager.”
Katya breaks the eye contact and nods to herself.
“I think it was your witch counterpart.” Katya vocalizes her thoughts.
Theo exhales loudly.
“Does this mean she can use powers of her other beings,” he cringes at the word, “even if she is in her human form?”
“I think so.” Katya mutters looking at Charlotte, “I think we’ll have to test for ourselves, practice, from tomorrow.”
Charlotte nods. She’ll have to understand what is going inside her.
“Tomorrow then.” Arzaiel says. “We have seen enough for today. Let’s meet tomorrow morning to discuss everything else.”
Katya and Theo know they are dismissed and leave the room with a nod.
Azraiel takes Charlotte’s hand leads her out of the office, the packhouse to their home.
None of them speak on the way, too drained and occupied in their own thoughts.
When they reach their home, they silently get out of their clothes, almost in sync and get into the bed. Charlotte lays her head on his chest and wraps her arm across his torso. One of Azraiel’s arm clutches her shoulder and the other snakes around her waist pulling her onto him.
“What were you angry about?” He asks quietly.
Charlotte instantly knows what he is talking about.
“I saw you and Theo mindlink and the thought that you were talking about me while I was in the room made me angry.” She wasn’t ashamed of her emotions. No, never again.
Her mate hums and rakes his hand through her hair. The action makes her let out a small noise that he savors.
“We have doubts regarding your mother.” He says as she nuzzles his neck.
“You think she was a powerful wolf, probably someone of a higher rank, don't you? You think she escaped the fire at the King’s castle 23 years ago?” She swears his heart skips a beat when he voices his suspicion.
“No, I am sure she was a part of the Royal court.”
