Chapter 261: Chapter 261
"Doctor! What is happening!?"
Different voices sounded at almost the same time. Only one word could describe what ensued afterwards: chaos!
For a split moment, they were unsure of who to help as both situations had happened almost at the same time.
Rocky was so angry in one moment, and then, terror and fright followed in the next. One moment, he was shaking Ian and oozing with a strong killing intent. Despite this state, Rocky somehow knew that Ian was letting him do that to him.
This was because no one could ever approach Ian and do that... they would not even think of doing that. The fact that Ian had let Rocky touch him spoke volumes about how he viewed his young brother-in-law, or maybe it was more of the affection for his wife and hers for her brother.
The small crowd of concerned people outside knew this to a certain extent, which may have explained why none of them had stopped Rocky from doing what he had done. Even his accusations sounded logical to them. Shelby had suffered multiple ’accidents’ and there were no two ways about it.
The next moment, Ian slid down Rocky, and before Rocky could even comprehend what that meant, the consecutive beeping from Shelby’s monitors started simultaneously.
"Patient is flatlining!" A shout resonated,
"Check the leads on her!"
"Starting emergency resuscitation protocol!" Another shout resonated in the room.
"The guardian is also losing consciousness!" A nurse who had just entered the room helped Rocky catch Ian just before he hit the ground like a light bulb that had been turned off.
The room was big enough for all of them, including Rocky, but they were pushed out.
More medical personnel rushed to the room as the door closed behind them, leaving Ian and Shelby in their hands.
’What have I done?’ Rocky asked himself as tears clouded his mind. His anger had evaporated as quickly as it had started. How could he continue being in that state when it looked like Ian was also fighting for his life and so suddenly too? Rocky, as well as all the rest outside, had no idea what had happened.
Geneva’s hands were clasped in Alex’s, and they were sitting by the hallway, refusing to go to the VVIP lounge prepared for them.
Brad stood stoic. He had an air of graveness and seriousness on him for the first time as he kept his gaze trained on the closed door. The wheels in his mind kept turning but Brad was only waiting for one thing.
Currey and Murray stood not far from them in straight stances. Their eyes are vigilant. Currey had a laptop in his hand, and his hands flew over the keyboard while Murray was trying hard not to freak out. Amongst all of them there, he was the person who knew most of what was happening there.
One could say that Currey also knew somewhat but for Murray, his link to Shelby made it all the clearest. Murray’s heart was in his throat. With each passing second, he could feel himself lose intangible things like specific abilities gained when his link to Shelby was created, making him more solemn. It was not looking good.
The brothers had not expected the effect that whatever was happening had had on Ian. That was a loose variable that they had not foreseen.
’Have you found the reason?’ Murray asked his brother through their link so no one around would hear them.
Currey shook his head and added, ’I know the bond is that strong, but I cannot help but think that a third party is at play here.’
Murray did not say anything in response, but he also knew this for a fact.
’The first issue is that Chairman Ian had not been able to feel the mistress’s location nor talk to her as they usually did. This also applied to you, Murray, signifying that the action had been done on Her Highness’ side.’
Murray nodded in agreement as Currey continued, ’His Highness had trouble using his abilitie-’
’That would be because of their bond....’ Murray injected, still using their mind link.
’He is fully bonded to her, and maybe what happens to her affects him, but I did not think it would be that dire.’
"Anything from the CCTVs?"
The brothers turned to Brad, who had asked across the hallway. This was the only thing Brad had talked about since they had found out that The CCTVs had been erased back on the company’s premises.
"We are almost done with the restoration. It shouldn’t be long, young master Brad."
Brad nodded and returned his gaze to the door.
Geneva also lifted her head to listen to this brief exchange. Afterwards, she turned slightly to Ava, who stood tensed not far from them. Geneva used her eyes and head to gesture towards Rocky as if to say, ’Go check on him.’
Ava had taken the initiative to call Rocky over, even though she had hardened her resolve and tried hard not to talk to him. Ava knew Rocky would love to be involved in his sister’s issue. Ava remembered Geneva’s advice regarding her and Rocky, but Ava could not think along those lines. She still did as Geneva had instructed though.
Ava straightened after Geneva sent her that look and walked silently over to Rocky, who was sagged on the ground, looking tired and way older than he usually did. The incident had taken a toll on him. It could have been the combination of incidents from weeks past that had culminated in this.
Ava went on her knees so that she was almost at eye level with him.
Rocky turned as a tear rolled down his cheeks. At the sight of Ava, Rocky succumbed to his emotions and buried his face into her chest, wrapping his arms around her. Ava stiffened a bit and then, patted his back lightly and allowed him to hold on tight.
"It’s going to be okay..." Ava whispered, but she did not believe the words. ’I really hope that Brianna had nothing to do with this!’
She allowed Rocky the privileges and the shoulder to cry on.
"Hey, get up." Ava nudged gently, but Rocky refused. He liked his position, but he was too distressed. Seeing Ava in person made me wonder about his emotions. The overall atmosphere was tense, but Rocky’s voice pierced the quiet atmosphere.
"Sis asked for help but, m-um.... Sh-e..."
Ava’s eyes narrowed, and even Geneva and Alex looked over. Even though Rocky’s voice was low, it was clear enough for all of them to hear because most of their attention was on the only activity there, which was on Ava and Rocky.
"Shelby asked for help? How did you know? What happened?"
As if Rocky had not heard Ava, he went on, his voice coming out like a croak, "Why is mum like that?"
"Like what, Rocky... Don’t tell me...." Ava gently pushed Rocky back and looked at him in bewilderment.
"Sis would have definitely called for help, but Mum called her and ...." Rocky narrated with bitterness on what had transpired between his mother and Shelby.
"Piecing two and two together, I think that Sis should have talked to mum last an-"
"WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY?"
Geneva stood up swiftly, her eyes blazing with fury. It was as if Geneva had been the one offended. Even Alex did not look so good.
They looked at the door and thought back to the doctor’s words.
"Even a single second counts in cases ...." That only meant that if Shelby had gotten help fast, maybe she would not have been in the state she was in. They had no idea what had happened to Ian, but they only assumed that he may have also inhaled the Co2 gas when he had gone for her. Moreover, the levels were so high that it was indeed a miracle that Shelby was still very much alive.
"You mean, that ignorant mother of yours received a call from Shelby but said nothing about it? She did not call for help? What kind of a mother is that?"
"Go and drag that leech over here. Her daughter is in the hospital, and she needs to see her."
Murray took one last look at the closed door, bowed, and then took off.
"I pray to the heavens that I will kill this woman if Shelby does not survive this!" The reaction itself was enough for Rocky to start second-guessing himself. If their mother was like how Geneva was, Rocky knew that they would have had a much more happy time growing up.
Ava was also fuming and trying to keep her emotions in check.
"Clara did that?" She lowered her voice to a whisper, and Rocky nodded, feeling ashamed for having a mother like that.
He hugged Ava back and replied, "Angela had just finished telling me when your call came through."
Ava hugged Rocky back. No words were necessary at that time, however she could smell the faint scent of alcohol on him. The Rocky that Ava knew was one who never drank alcohol, and Ava’s concern for him grew as she wondered when he had started drinking.
’Is it a new habit that he had picked up, or is something bothering him?’ She wondered.
Ava urged Rocky to get up just as the door pushed open. One doctor and the head nurse walked out,
"How are they, doctor?" Alex led them to ask. His usual composure was lost, and Alex looked to have aged in the hour since they had heard this news.
