Chapter 260: Chapter 260

"Please be okay!" Ian felt his heart breaking into pieces over the unresponsive Shelby. Seeing her in that state yet again had shattered something inside him. She was deathly pale, almost white, which was also very alarming.

To compound that, as he reached for her and his hand touched her, her body felt a little too cold for his liking, even though he could faintly hear her short and weak breaths. That was the only thing that gave him a semblance of relief.

Once there was life, there was hope, but she was barely hanging on.... and this scared him shitless. "Come back to me, my Elfin!"

Ian crushed her almost limp body really close to him as if he could push some of his warmth and life force into her. If that was what could save her, Ian had no issues pushing everything he had into her, but he knew it was not possible, at least in that scenario. Ian spent no more than forty seconds in that place, but it felt like forever.

His limbs started to feel like jelly, as if they had no strength in them or as if he was coming down with an illness. This was surprising for him, as Ian was not one who ever got sick, per se. It was as if there was a tube connected to him that was draining off his energy, but Ian could not do anything about that.

He suppressed the slight dizziness that washed over him and willed himself to ’disappear’ from the place. Ian pictured the hospital in his mind as he did this. Ian was sure that his wife would have long crossed over to the netherworld if he tried any other means of transportation.

He had seen the figures blinking on the CO2 monitor in the processing plant; Ian was not even sure how Shelby was still alive. It was baffling yet reassuring.

Shelby needed help... and she needed it fast. Ian was unsure if she could make it because he could feel himself draining with each passing second, as she got colder, and her breath became weaker.

His symptoms also escalated, and his vision blurred. Ian reappeared and turned swiftly, only to notice that he was still on the T-Vino winery premises! He had only appeared a few metres from the warehouse.

Ian frowned. He knew Currey and Murray were not far from him, but he had no time to care for them. He could faintly sense another person, but for once, Ian needed all his senses to do the previously simple task of moving from one place to another through the veil that blanketed them.

Teleporting had never been a problem for Ian since he had learnt that he could do it. It was like walking or eating. His mind understood what needed to be done, and there was no effort on his side. Ian clenched his teeth and let out a desperate scream.

The outcry was disheartening, seemingly from the depths of his soul. He put 100% of his concentration and everything he could muster, and that finally did the trick. The defining and heartfelt growl faded with him as he disappeared from there again leaving the whispers of the whitish glow behind this time.

He felt a breeze whoosh around him and then opened his eyes when he felt the ground solid again. Ian quickly stabilized himself so that Shelby did not fall from his hands. At this time, he was having trouble keeping her in his arms but he would rather die that let her drop.

Ian almost sagged down in relief when he saw the busy hospital in front of him. Even the hysterical screams of the few people who had seen him did not deter him from what his mind was telling him to do. Ian also did not even bother that he had not landed right inside it.

Ian ran into the place and to the VVIP ward.

Everything was a blur for him, too. He felt himself almost blacking out, but Ian did not let go.

He could faintly hear:

"Female in her twenties, most likely CO2 poisoning! Check her vitals and get the oxygen ready! M-"

Ian was going against himself by allowing others to handle Shelby and even touch her, but he still had a big mental argument with himself on this.

’She needs the help! Stop being so obsessive!’ Ian reprimanded himself as Shelby was wheeled into a room. However, the nurse and doctor who had taken over the case froze, mesmerized by the now pale but overly beautiful face. They were in a trance as if hypnotized!

The nurse had the nose-hose hovering over Shelby’s face, her eyes narrowed with just one thought, ’How can a human being be that beautiful! How can she, when I am ?’

The doctor was even worse, ’I would love to bang the-’

Ian stormed up to them and grabbed their necks in both hands. Despite his weak state, he still had enough strength fuelled by his bubbling anger.

His eyes glowed white, pulsing and with a deadly hint of danger. He had ’heard’ all of their thoughts. Ian squeezed their necks and bellowed!

"Get me someone to do the work! She had better stay alive or else...." He threw them one after the other through the open door as if discarding trash. The doctor hit the opposite wall with a loud bang and a loud ’Ahhhh!!!’. He barely managed to complete his scream when the nurse landed with a loud bang on him and a shrill, frightened scream.

’Ouch!’ The few nurses who had been rushing there winced.

The head nurse, experiencing a sense of déjà vu, shook her head and then shouted,

"Get them out of here!"

"I will not repeat myself!"

The head nurse rushed past the two and then through the same door. She quickly hooked Shelby up to the oxygen prepared. She continued hooking other machines to Shelby while Ian watched her like a hawk targeting its prey. Not a single action went unmonitored.

The head nurse was used to this and distinctly remembered a time when this girl had been admitted. She was fast, and even the chaos outside from the other Thornston family members who rolled in after about half to three-quarters of an hour did not stop her from monitoring the girl.

’She made a mental note to ’take care’ of the two who had been thrown out later.’ Another doctor walked in and worked alongside her. She did not even flinch when Ian refused to leave her side and kept her smaller hands in his.

It was not long after that time before the door was pushed open with a loud bang!

Ian turned swiftly, ready to throw his wrath at whoever had stormed in. As if by tactical understanding, none of his family outside had dared to come in, even though he faintly heard them.

All his senses were trained on Shelby, who was now linked to multiple systems. He was barely able to stand on his feet himself and was using every single ounce of his being to do that. However, seeing Rocky, Ian stiffened for some reason. That was the very first reaction he had had that evening that was not directly related to his wife.

"Why is my sister getting into so much mortal danger after meeting you? You promised to take care of her! WHY COULDN’T YOU KEEP THAT PROMISE!"

Every single word that Rocky brought out stung like a knife embedded deep in his heart. This was because they were the exact words that Ian was somehow asking himself. How was it that the girl who had lived a perfectly healthy life had become a walking target after their marriage?

It would have been easy to assume that Shelby had amassed some enemies who had decided to take their actions at that time, and that it was just coincidental. However, that would be a far-fetched theory even to consider.

"What did you do! Why? She would be better off without you!" Rocky continued, and Ian’s heart somersaulted. Inasmuch as he could not accept it, even those words rang true in his mind.

The people who had wanted to stop Rocky from entering stopped short in the doorway. They did not wish to accept these words, but what was it to Shelby if they had all the money and all the power, but people were able to get to her and harm her to the brink of death each time?!

Geneva and her husband exchanged strange and surprised glances as Ian let Rocky punch and hit him in any way that he could to vent his anger.

"I’m s-orry, I will do better, next time-" Ian whispered, and his voice cracked.

"Next time? There will be no next time! I-"

Rocky frowned and looked at Ian properly. There was a light sheen of sweat on him, and he was relatively warm... and pale.

Rocky willed himself to unsee this. He did not want to care, as he was just too angry. Rocky heaved, breathing heavily as he bared his sentiments. Enough was enough! Why should his sister have to bear so much?

First, from their father, then their mother, to the people around her, and when he thought Shelby had finally found someone who could give her everything she needed and protect her, her life started being threatened?

At that moment, Rocky made up his mind to return everything that Ian had given them. ’It would be best if they just found a place away from all of what was happening. With that, just maybe, whoever wanted to harm them would not, as they would be out of the limelight.’

Rocky continued, "My sissy deserves the best of the best, Ian! So, if you cannot protect her th-"

He never expected the next turn of events, though. It was unclear if Rocky’s actions would have changed even if he knew what would have happened. His hands were still on the front of Ian’s shirt.

Ian had never resisted once, nor had he even retorted or refuted anything Rocky had said. Rocky’s eyes widened in a flicker of surprise as he saw Ian’s eyes slightly glow, and then Ian slumped down.

"What!" Rocky tried to hold onto him, but Ian was just too big.

Even before Ian touched the ground, the machines hooked up to Shelby started beeping wildly.

"What’s going on?!!!!" Someone screamed as panic and chaos set in.
