Chapter 70: Chapter 70
"Could it be becoming someone’s ’goddaughter’ in leadership?" Sarah Reed smiled insinuatingly.
"Is your mind only capable of thinking about such things?" Lucy Eaton replied with no fluctuation in her eyes, "Dr. Reed, I hope you take my warning seriously, otherwise, you will learn what it costs to slander someone’s reputation next time."
Having said that, she turned and walked towards her seat.
Behind her came Sarah Reed’s sarcasm, "What? Going to sweet-talk your backer into firing me?" Latest content published on ɴovelfire.net
Lucy Eaton paused in her steps, turned to look at her, "It seems my words clearly didn’t get through to you. I’m in a bad mood today, you’d better not provoke me."
"Weren’t you the one who came to question me first? Now, you’re acting like an innocent party? You’re in a bad mood? Does that mean I’m in a good mood? Lucy Eaton, don’t think you’re so great just because you have backing. Let me tell you, if you dare to whisper sweet nothings to get me fired, I’ll make you notorious online, so everyone can see if there’s any justice left—a woman relying on backing, yet so brazen... ah!"
Before she finished her sentence, Lucy Eaton’s slap landed fiercely on her face.
Michael Paxton, who had been silent, looked at this scene in shock.
When Sarah Reed regained her senses after being slapped, she charged at Lucy Eaton like a madwoman.
But it was obvious she was no match for Lucy Eaton.
Lucy trapped her, and if not for Michael Paxton’s strenuous intervention, Sarah Reed’s face would have been completely ruined.
"Sarah Reed, remember this, if I hear you saying such nonsense again, I’ll hit you every time I see you. Try me if you don’t believe it!"
Sarah Reed clutched her face, sobbing loudly, and then ran out.
The office fell into complete silence, Michael Paxton glanced at Lucy Eaton’s pale face, "I believe you’re not like what she said."
Lucy Eaton didn’t look up, "You believe?"
"I do. Even Charles Sharp is willing to be friends with you; it shows you’re not one to sell yourself for work. I’d rather believe you have a very accomplished friend who has a good relationship with the hospital director. In our hospital, regarding positions, it’s hard for those without power to get them, but for those with power, it’s easily obtained. Not surprising; if there’s a good shortcut, as long as one has the capability, why not take it? You didn’t push anyone out when you joined, did you?"
After being silent for several seconds, Lucy Eaton said, "Thank you for believing in me."
Outside the office, Sarah Reed’s sobbing could be vaguely heard. Her gaze fixed on the doorway as the director entered.
Clearly, Sarah Reed had tattled.
But what did Lucy Eaton have to fear?
"Dr. Eaton, Dr. Reed just told me about the situation. I’ve criticized her for her mistakes."
"Since she has told you, I won’t repeat it. Dr. Reed’s defamation of myself and the hospital leadership is definitely not a minor issue. If it spreads, where does our hospital’s reputation stand?"
"Dr. Eaton, you’re absolutely right. So, you two definitely cannot continue working in the same office. I’ve decided Dr. Reed will move to the other two attending doctors’ office. From now on, this office will be a workspace for you and Dr. Paxton."
"Why me? Why isn’t she moving?" Sarah Reed cried louder, "Why me?"
"Who told you to stir things up first?" The director scolded her, "And you have the nerve to cry here? Pack your things and move immediately. I’ll have other colleagues help you move the desk. Dr. Reed, I solemnly warn you here, if I hear such absurd rumors spreading in the hospital again, I’ll hold you accountable! Report to the leadership, and you won’t stay in this hospital any longer. After moving, you’ll write a thorough written review for me!"
Upon hearing this, Sarah Reed dared not retort any further, just grudgingly said, "Got it."
Following the director’s departure, Sarah Reed gave Lucy Eaton a furious glare and silently packed her things.
Regarding Mrs. Eaton’s surgery at nine o’clock, Lucy Eaton and Michael Paxton together devised a detailed plan.
Considering Mrs. Eaton’s advanced age, there are risks with undergoing surgery. To ensure a flawless operation, the doctor must consider every aspect on the operating table.
Once she entered work mode, Lucy Eaton blocked out matters unrelated to work.
Especially upon entering the operating room, needing to be highly concentrated, she had no intention of thinking about anything else.
After the surgery, it was almost twelve o’clock.
The surgery was very successful.
When Lucy Eaton exited the operating room, she saw Jacob Green at the doorway.
He was wearing a cap and mask, dressed casually, clearly indicating he hadn’t gone to work at the company in the morning.
She acted as if she didn’t recognize him and walked right past him, heading to the changing room to remove the blue sterile gown she was wearing.
When she came out and didn’t see him around, Lucy Eaton let out a slight breath of relief.
With her hands in her lab coat pockets, she returned to the office.
Upon pushing the door open, she was taken aback by the sight of Jacob Green sitting in her office chair, two large lunch boxes placed on the table.
Michael Paxton had apparently gone to eat and wasn’t there.
She stood in place, unmoving.
"What’s wrong? Are you so happy you’re stunned seeing your husband personally deliver lunch?"
"Ah, so you were delivering lunch." Lucy Eaton entered the room, speaking as she walked, "I thought you were delivering divorce papers."
Jacob Green’s facial expression stiffened, "Did you see the news?"
"I really don’t know whether it was fortunate or unfortunate. Within such a short time it was deleted, yet I managed to see it." Lucy Eaton locked her eyes on him, smiling sharply, "I always felt paparazzi digging into people’s privacy was annoying enough, but now I actually feel grateful for their hard work. If they hadn’t camped out all night, how could I possibly know you stayed all night in a hotel with another girl and only emerged the next morning?"
Jacob Green stood up and walked straight to her, pulling a USB from his pocket and handed it to her, "Since you’ve seen it, take a look at this."
"Hotel room internal surveillance."
Lucy Eaton was surprised, "Hotel room has internal surveillance?"
"All rooms in our Clan Green’s chain hotels are equipped with surveillance systems for two reasons: it’s convenient for the police to investigate when incidents occur, and to catch guests engaging in illegal activities like drug use in the room. Normally reviewed by robots for screening, this is one of our company’s top secrets."
Lucy Eaton inserted the USB into the computer, "I’ll watch the footage first."
He opened the lunch boxes one by one, gently saying, "Eat while watching, multitasking."
Lucy Eaton, aiming to save time, agreed to his proposal.
Thus, she watched the surveillance footage while eating. Because the footage lasted several hours—too long—she had to let it automatically play at 8x and 16x speeds.
The footage progressed swiftly, allowing a complete view of the entire process.
As she watched, Jacob Green sat silently beside, observing her.
