Chapter 69: Chapter 69

"I’ve heard it’s hardest to get into a hospital. How did you, a fresh graduate, get in?" Oliver Eaton’s wife expressed her opinion, "And it’s such a large hospital."

When Sarah Reed pushed the door open, she heard this sentence, "Don’t you know?"

The Ainsworth Family all looked at her, "Know what?"

"Dr. Eaton just started working at our hospital. She got in through the back door."

Oliver’s aunt asked in surprise, "Whose back door?"

"You should ask her that. Otherwise, what qualifications does a fresh graduate have to parachute directly into our hospital as an attending physician?" Sarah hinted, "A girl’s reputation is most important, but she doesn’t seem to care about it. The leadership in our hospital that allowed a university graduate to suddenly become an attending physician is already married."

"Are you saying she’s a mistress to someone in your hospital’s leadership?" Oliver’s wife blurted out.

"I didn’t say that." Sarah walked away with her hands in her pockets, "You, as her family, don’t know, and I certainly don’t."

She left lightly, but the Ainsworth Family was in an uproar.

"What that doctor just said means that Lucy Eaton is someone’s mistress, which is why she has today’s position, right?"

"Sister-in-law." Oliver’s aunt said, "This is baseless. We can’t just believe whatever people say. When Lucy comes tomorrow, asking her will clarify it, won’t it?"

"What do you mean baseless? In my opinion, it’s very likely true. Is it so easy to get into the hospital? If she did get this job by being a mistress, what face does our Ainsworth Family have? Sister-in-law, you might want to call and find out right now. Otherwise, everyone will have an unresolved issue in their hearts, feeling very uncomfortable."

Even Mrs. Ainsworth wanted to know if it was true or false, and urged Oliver’s aunt, "Just call Lucy and ask, will you?"

Lucy Eaton received the call while still on her way back. Hearing Oliver’s aunt’s inquiry, she asked, "Did Dr. Sarah talk to you?"

"She did, Lucy. Be honest with Aunt, is what Dr. Sarah said true?"

"What she said is partly true. I did get in through the back door, but I’m not a mistress to any hospital leader; that doesn’t exist."

"I thought you weren’t that kind of child. Lucy, you said you did get in through the back door, who helped you?"

"You don’t need to know that. I’m busy now, I have to go."

After hanging up, Lucy’s head hurt slightly.

"Young Madam, should I make contact with the hospital and have this troublesome doctor expelled?"

"No need, don’t let others think I can bully people just because I have connections. I have my own ways of dealing with her. Don’t mention this to your Young Master."

Nathaniel Green knew that if their Young Master found out, he definitely wouldn’t let it go easily.

Just as she got home, she received a call from Jacob Green. He’s making a trip to Capital City Northriver City to negotiate a project with Frederick Palmer, the president of Palmer Corporation, and won’t be back tonight.

Since he wasn’t coming back, Lucy Eaton had dinner, showered, and went to sleep.

She had a dreamless night and slept well.

She woke up at six in the morning, freshened up, dressed, and went downstairs to eat breakfast before heading to work.

On the way to work, a new message was pushed to the news headline.

"Jacob Green’s rumored girlfriend surfaces! The pair returned to the hotel room late at night, staying all night!"

Lucy Eaton’s eyelid twitched, and she reached out with her index finger to click on the detailed news content.

The content described how Jacob Green had dinner last night with Frederick Palmer and others at a high-end restaurant. Later, Jacob, who had drunk a lot, was helped out by several of his subordinates. He got into a luxury business car, which stopped at a five-star hotel under Clan Green in the underground parking lot. Along with him was a young and pretty girl who had been in the car before he boarded. Jacob’s subordinates not only did not reject this girl but welcomed her with smiles, escorting Jacob to a presidential suite. The girl went in as well, while the subordinates left, but the girl remained inside all night! Journalists, who stayed there overnight, finally saw the two come out one after another in the morning.

The article then straightforwardly implied that what might happen between an alone man and woman in a room for a night is known only to them.

The girl in the photos wore a mask and hat, making it impossible to discern her true face, but she seemed like a tall woman.

Just as she was about to read the ending, Lucy realized the news page had vanished, clearly deleted.

Her eyes fixed on the words ’the page has disappeared’, unblinkingly.

From its release to deletion, less than two minutes had passed, such was the speed.

Lucy’s hand holding the phone couldn’t help but tremble slightly; she was at a loss and shut the phone off, stashed it into her pocket, her mind blank.

At that moment, Nathaniel’s phone rang. He was wearing a Bluetooth headset, and while driving, he took the call without delay.

"I’m currently taking Young Madam to the hospital for work."

Whatever Nathaniel heard, his eyes quickly glanced at the rear seat through the rearview mirror, where Lucy Eaton sat, and then he replied, "Alright."

Although he was trying hard to maintain composure, Lucy noticed his unusual behavior.

She pretended not to notice, gazing out the window.

"Young Madam, Young Master asked why your phone is off. He asked you to turn it on."

Lucy acted as if she didn’t hear, gazing outside without speaking.

"Young Madam..." Nathaniel called again.

She finally snapped out of it, "Hmm? What is it?"

"Young Master said he couldn’t reach you by phone. He asked you to turn it on."

"It’s almost out of battery. I forgot to charge it last night."

"There’s a charger in the car. Would you like to charge it now?"

"No need, we’re almost at the hospital."

Nathaniel thought it made sense and said no more.

The car stopped at the hospital entrance. She got off with a mask on,

walked quickly as if someone was chasing her, going directly to the office without catching her breath.

As soon as she entered, she headed straight for Sarah Reed’s desk, her gaze cold.

"What are you doing?"

"Dr. Sarah, I hope the rumor that I’m a hospital leader’s mistress is the first and last time it comes out of your mouth. If I discover a second time, I will not let you go."

Sarah didn’t deny it but asked instead, "A rumor? Isn’t it the truth? Afraid to admit what you’ve done? Dr. Eaton, I don’t deny you have the capability to be an attending physician, but isn’t it widely known you entered the hospital through connections? If you had a secret relationship with a leader, you could get in?"

"Dr. Sarah, I did get in through connections, and I have never denied that. But you absurdly claim I’m a mistress to the leaders. In your eyes, is there no other way besides this?" This update is available on novelꞁire.net
