Chapter 17: Chapter 17

ANDREW POV

I haven’t visited the hospital in the past five days to check up on my dad’s health condition and as for mom, she seems too busy preparing for the wedding and doesn’t want to talk to me after our last argument on meeting my bride-to-be.

She just doesn’t seem to give me any break to be on my own and I wonder what that lady has done to have made her so obsessed about the wedding.

I grabbed my phone and took one last look of myself before strolling out of my room to the living room.

I got to the living room and found decorations everywhere and some people laughing but upon my arrival they all stopped.

“Good morning Mr Walton.” They stuttered in fear.

“Fools.” I grumbled and headed in the direction of the dining room to find mom and two of the maids having a discussion.

“Good morning mom.”

“Good morning.” She replied in the usual tone she has been acting in the last five days.

“Good morning sir.” The ladies greeted me but I just ignored them and took my seat.

“Will that attitude of yours keep going on like this, mom?”

“What attitude are you talking about?”

“Mom, are you really going to say that?”

“What do you expect me to say after you refuse to listen to my words?” She asked with folded arms.

“What the hell are you both still doing here?” I vented my anger on the maids standing with her as they rushed off in fear.

“Do you think you’re the only one with such a cold attitude? Of course, not honey. Your mom is also good at it.”

“Fine! I apologize for pushing you to the edge. I’m sorry.” I apologized in defeat.

There’s no way I can stay mad with her for a long time. She’s the only one I have got right now since dad is still unconscious and I have got to appreciate her.

“Much better! That was what I wanted to hear all along.”

“Are we cool now?” I inquired as she walked towards me with her sweet smile.

“Yes son. You do know I can’t stay mad with you for long.” She confessed, caressing my face.

“That’s enough, mom. I’m not a child.” I pulled her hands away.

“But you’re still a baby in my eyes.” She laughed and took a seat as well.

“Whatever, I had always wanted to discuss something else with you before we got into that argument.”

“Go on. I’m listening.”

“I don’t want the wedding to go public like you want it and I know dad wouldn’t want that as well since it's my choice to get married.”

“But why, honey?”

“I want it simple and private.”

“But honey…” She was trying to say but I cut her short nicely.

“Please mom, just grant my request this once.”

“Okay. I’ll cancel the big arrangement and make it a small one with only family.”

“Yeah, thanks mom.”

“No problem son.” She responded sadly.

I know she isn’t happy with my choice but it’s for everyone’s benefit since the marriage won’t last in any way.

I stepped out of the car before making my way inside the hospital with Frank and two other bodyguards trailing behind me.

I ignored all the unnecessary greetings from the staff and workers and headed directly for the doctor’s office to discuss my dad’s condition.

“Wait here while I discuss with the doctor alone.” I instructed Frank and the bodyguards when we arrived at the doctor’s office.

“Okay sir.” He replied as I headed inside the office.

I walked in and found him talking to a male patient and when he saw me, he got on his feet with a smile.

“What a pleasant visit. Please, have a seat Mr Walton.” He offered me as I walked over to his desk and gently took a seat.

“Good morning sir.” The patient greeted me, which I only nodded in response as he stood up to take his leave.

“Good morning Mr Walton.”

“I thought you wouldn’t say that before. Anyways, how’s my dad's condition?”

“He still isn’t responding to treatment but the other doctors and I are trying our every possible means to see he regains consciousness soon.”

“Is that so? Sometimes, I wonder if my dad really did the right thing to have employed the right doctor for this job.”

“You have to trust me, Mr Walton. We won’t fail you or your father.” He pleaded.

“That’s what I keep hearing. Can I see him?”

“Yes, Mr Walton.”

“Lead the way then.” I narrowed my eyes to him as he got on his feet and urged me to follow him.

We got to the ward as I saw my dad still unconscious and looking really pale and lifeless.

I just don’t want to assume we have lost him because I believe he’s still there. He can hear whatever we say and can also feel how hurt we need him.

There has to be something I can do that will trigger him to respond to treatment.

“Please, don’t stay too long, Mr Walton. He’s at the stage that doesn’t require anyone forcing things on him.”

“Just get the hell out, let me have some quiet time with him.”

“Okay sir.” He responded and stepped out of the room.

I walked over to the bed and took a seat on the bed, staring at his pale face.

He’s still as handsome as he looks even when he’s unconscious. It really was from him that I got all my features.

“Hey dad! How are you holding up there? I know it is really harder for you than mom and I but you have got to let go of the pain. I know you trusted Naomi with everything but you have got to get over the hurt and come back to us. I really miss you so much, dad. I really need you now more than ever.” I confessed, holding his cold hands thinking my words would move him but it didn’t which made me continue.

“Dad, did you know I have decided to settle down just like you have ever wanted? In fact, the wedding is happening tomorrow as I speak and it pierces my hurt to see you won’t be there. I have always wanted to see you right next to me when I’m ready to take wedding vows but now you won’t be there to witness it.”

After a short while, I said my goodbyes to him and left for the company with the hope after the marriage he will regain consciousness.
