No one was aware of the man’s presence. The elderlies had begun chasing their children inside. The scene was about to get gruesome. Some had even started running away while the thugs brought down Mrs. Lin’s store mercilessly.

“Argh! Leave me alone! Let me go!” From the crowd, one could hear Little Chen shouting while Mrs. Ming pulled him inside the apartment building.

“This is beyond our power, Little Chen. You will get into trouble.” Mrs. Ming knew her son didn’t possess even half of the power of one of those thugs. How could she let her Little treasure fall into danger? She would be sinning against her ancestors.

Annie managed to evade Mrs. Su’s first attack with the knife. When she attacked her for the second time, the knife happened to graze her arm.

“Annie! Get away from that crazy woman!” Mrs. Lin shouted. She regretted letting her daughter come down to look for a taxi herself. And where in the world was her stupid son?

How could Annie get away from Mrs. Su? As much as she tried to avoid the woman, she would follow her and block her path.

Mrs. Lin was feeling helpless. Almost all the neighbors had already dispersed. She almost lost hope when a man stood behind her and tapped her.

“Mrs. Lin, I can help you.”

Due to her confused state, Mrs. Lin didn’t detect any familiarity in the voice until she turned around. “Y–You!”

Mr. Su grinned evilly. “If you promise me that your daughter will be mine, I will put an end to this chaos,” Mr. Su declared in a voice that only he and Mrs. Su could hear.

All this had been Mr. Su’s ploy. Knowing that his wife was troublesome, he had secretly bribed someone to tell her the news, making him seem innocent. Mr. Su wasn’t one to back down when he set his eyes on something. He would do anything to get this beauty.

Mrs. Lin’s eyes became red with anger. “So this was your doing, Mr. Su.” She immediately put two and two together and understood that this man was more treacherous than she thought.

“You only have to promise me, Mrs. Lin, and I’ll put a stop to this at once.” Mr. Su gave her a triumphant smile.

In his mind, Mrs. Lin had no choice now but to give him her daughter. Using his wife was a piece of cake. That woman was too dumb for her own good.

Mrs. Lin looked at her daughter who was fighting off Mrs. Su’s attacks. Her eyes went to her store which was half destroyed by the thugs. She let out a sigh and shook her head. Shutting her eyes, she hoped the hurt would go away.

Mr. Su only became more happy. This woman would finally concede to him. What happened next was far from his expectations though. Mrs. Lin raised her hand and slapped him hard across the face.

Everything went still. The thugs paused in their mission and even Mrs. Su looked flabbergasted.

It was as if Mrs. Lin had a special ability for knocking people senseless whenever she slapped. Right now, Mr. Su could only see stars. He wasn’t even able to breathe for a while.

“Mr. Su, you must be possessed. Why are you this obsessed with my daughter!? We didn’t do you anything and you’re hellbent on making our lives miserable! I agreed to the rent increment just so you could leave my daughter alone! If you’re so keen on having my daughter to the point of harming our lives, I don’t see why we should beg mercy from you! Do whatever you please! Let your wife kill me daughter, and I’ll happily die along with her! Then, we will have peace of mind. At least, no one will pester us on the other side!”

Mrs. Lin was shouting and beating the dumbstruck Mr. Su at the same time. This woman would only lose her temper a bit in the past. No one knew Mrs. Su would possess such a fury. Both of Mr. Su’s cheeks were not spared. She didn’t allow him to recover and kept slapping him.

“Ma, let go.” Annie left the speechless Mrs. Su and hurried to her mother. To the other people, Mrs. Lin was only venting her anger. But if she went on like this, the woman might collapse.

Mrs. Lin had been very frustrated lately. She was on the brink of losing her sanity.

The man standing by the car was still conspicuous. Mr. Su’s appearance had stopped him from moving forward. He never thought Mr. Su was the mastermind behind this.

Bringing out his phone, he dialed a number.

From the other end, Assistant Jiang was so drunk that he could barely open his eyes. When the call came in, he answered it and asked lazily, “Hey, what is it?”

“You are incompetent, Assistant Jiang. The people you hire to look over my property are also incompetent. Tell me how I should punish you.”

“Ahhh!” Assistant Jiang snapped awake with a squeak. He started trembling immediately. “B–Boss.”

“Meet me at the police station.” Andrew cut the call.

Moments later, the sounds of police sirens erupted in the neighborhood. The thugs only got to destroy half of Mrs. Lin’s store. They were busy watching Mrs. Lin beat up Mr. Su.

Mrs. Su was still speechless and Annie was helpless. She couldn’t get her mother to stop.

“Wah! Why are you just staring, Honey? They are bullying me!” Mr. Su called out to his wife for help. He was beaten black and blue, and he was afraid he would lose one eye if Mrs. Lin didn’t stop slapping him.

The dumb Mrs. Su instantly forgot what Mrs. Lin said about her husband being the perpetrator. She ordered the thugs to leave what they were doing and instead beat Mrs. Lin and her daughter up.

But then, the thugs didn’t get to take a step forward before the policemen alighted from their cars and surrounded them.

The neighbors who had run back into the apartment building poked their heads out of their windows. Mrs. Lin stopped slapping Mr. Su and Annie looked shocked for some seconds.

Standing with the police was none other than Mr. Lim. She could only guess how long he had been there.

Everyone’s attention wasn’t on the police but on this new man. The man stood tall with both hands in his pants pocket. His eyes were fixed directly on the girl and he uttered two commands.

“Arrest them all.”

“Only spare this woman.” He pointed at the miserable-looking Mrs. Lin.
