Chapter 52: Chapter 52
More neighbors gathered around Mrs. Lin’s store to see what was happening. Everyone was confused at the actions of this strange woman. When they heard her order the thugs to beat the girl up, they couldn’t hide their surprises anymore.
“Madam, what is wrong with you? First, you want to destroy the store and now you want to beat up the girl.*
“In this whole neighborhood, everyone knows Mrs. Lin not to be troublesome. Her daughter is the gentlest among our girls here. Is it that you got the wrong person?”
“By the way, you don’t just barge into people’s area and do whatever you like. Although this neighborhood isn’t protected by security, it doesn’t mean you can come here with thugs and expect to be feared.”
The neighbors found the woman irritating and funny. She acted as if she owned the whole neighborhood. With those minor thugs behind her, did she think she could instill fear in them?
“Ahhh, all of you are crazy! You don’t know this girl’s true colors that is why you’re defending her,” the woman shouted. “Because my husband is a little well-off, she wants to snatch him from me! She didn’t have pity on me that I have children! Tell me, why should I pity her?”
Eh?
Hearing the woman’s words, the neighbors all looked at Annie. This girl that always avoided men. How was it that she tried snatching the woman’s husband? Maybe there was some misunderstanding here. Maybe Annie just happened to captivate the woman’s husband.
They couldn’t refute that the woman was lying now. They couldn’t also agree that Annie wasn’t in the wrong. After all, it was just a jealous woman trying to protect her marriage.
“When did I try to snatch your husband, Madam.” Annie almost laughed, staring at the woman. “And who is that your supposed husband?”
She didn’t know this woman or where she came from, yet she was blatantly lying on her. In the presence of the big woman and the many thugs, the girl didn’t look intimidated or cower in fear. Her eyes swept across the thugs and with an almost bored look, she spoke out, “If I were you, I would think twice before following orders heedlessly. This woman asks you to beat me up. Maybe you would want to know the reason why. Then you can have something to defend yourselves with once the authorities arrive.”
The thugs exchanged glances. At the mention of the word ‘authorities’ their expressions changed.
“Damn the authorities! Who is afraid of them? Little girl, we don’t care about your problem with Mrs. Su. As long as she pays us our money, we will do anything she asks us. Unless you have a bigger price to pay us.”
That was the way they operated. The thugs didn’t care whether they were dealing with the victim or not. As long as they got their money, they would carry out any kind of order.
“Mrs. Su!?” Everyone gasped while Annie’s eyes dimmed.
The woman hadn’t introduced herself yet but the thugs’ confession just did. If they weren’t mistaken, she was the same Mrs. Su, right? The wife of that pervert, Mr. Su.
“Hehe, so you are Mrs. Su.” Annie let out a soft laugh. “Where did you hear that I tried to covet your husband? Isn’t it the other way around?”
“Be quiet, you little brat! My resource always turns out correct. You and your greedy mother have been pestering my husband. You didn’t leave him alone even after he brought the police. Didn’t you promise that you won’t give up until my husband comes to you?”
Everyone widened their eyes. Did she even know what she was saying?
“Because you can’t afford the rent, you want to curry favor with my husband. Little girl, you are so despicable. I can’t wait to disfigure this face of yours. Isn’t it what you use to seduce people’s husbands?”
“What is going on here?” Someone had gone upstairs to get Mrs. Lin. She came out in time to hear the woman’s last statement. “Woman, what is wrong? Did my daughter offend you?”
Quickly, one of the neighbors summarized everything to Mrs. Lin.
“Eh? So you are Mr. Su’s wife.” At the mention of that man’s name, Mrs. Lin turned angry. “Why are you here disturbing my daughter? Why don’t you go and question your filthy husband first? You don’t even know what exactly happened. Woman, stop jumping to conclusions or you might get yourself into trouble.”
Mrs. Su felt attacked from Mrs. Lin’s harsh words. The people who gathered around were also looking at her as if she had gone crazy. And this girl, up to now, didn’t show any fear.
Mrs. Su balled her large fists and shook it in front of Annie. “Hehe, you are all a bunch of greedy people. I can’t believe you are backing this girl up.” Then she turned to the thugs. “I will beat her up myself! How about you destroy this store instead?”
The thugs were holding wrenches and all kinds of big objects that could tear anyone who dared go near them apart. So no one even thought about stopping them, fearing for their lives.
Mrs. Su used her strength to push Annie aside, making her fall on her side. Because the girl looked slender, Mrs. Su thought that with just one blow from her, she could send her to the other side easily.
Annie hadn’t seen her first attack coming that was why she didn’t have time to resist. However, the second time Mrs. Su’s hand approached her, she grabbed it and stood up. “Mrs. Su, don’t blame me for fighting back. You started it first.”
“Eh? You want to fight me? Aren’t you scared I’ll break you into pieces!?”
“Annie, leave this crazy woman. Let’s just call the police!” It wasn’t that Mrs. Lin wasn’t confident in her daughter’s strength. She was just afraid that Mrs. Su might be hiding a sharp object like the thugs.
Right now, Mrs. Su looked no different from the scary-looking guys. While the thugs destroyed Mrs. Lin’s store and the big woman tackled her daughter, Mrs. Lin was thrown into confusion. She didn’t know where to look or what to do.
“You–“ Mrs. Su panted heavily.
The girl was unflinching, yet she evaded any attack thrown at her. Swiftly, she slapped Mrs. Su’s hands away before it touched her body. She wasn’t even fighting back, but defending herself. And Mrs. Su was beginning to feel exhausted.
“Annie, I’ll disfigure your face!” She brought a sharp-looking knife out and aimed it at the girl’s face.
The neighbors gasped in unison.
Leaning against a flashy car behind the crowd was a man. He arrived not long ago and had been watching everything with keen interest.
However, the man was losing his composure.
