Chapter 163: Chapter 163
…
At X District Apartment Building.
As it was the weekend, Mrs. Lin’s store was packed with customers from the neighborhood, both the old and young.
She was busily attending to them, wondering where her stupid son had wandered off to when Mrs. Tan came into her store.
“Eh? Mrs. Lin, can you believe it?”
“Is it something that concerns me?” Mrs. Lin gave her a look. “If not, don’t disturb me, Mrs. Tan, as you can see, I’m busy. Go and look for Mrs. Ming, your best friend, and gossip with her.”
At the mention of Mrs. Ming’s name, Mrs. Tan’s expression changed. “Could you stop bringing up insignificant people, Mrs. Lin? I’m here for something important.”
“What is it?”
*Well…” Mrs. Tan walked closer to the counter and then glanced behind her as if watching someone from outside. “Is that not your daughter’s suitor? The one that ran away that night?”
“Huh? Where is he?” Mrs. Lin stared in that direction. Since that day, she hadn’t heard from her son-in-law again. Mrs. Lin thought maybe the boy was no longer interested in her daughter.
“He’s outside,” Mrs. Tan lowered her voice. “And it looks like his parents are here.”
“Really?” Now, Mrs. Lin was confused. But she couldn’t wait to see the boy, so she quickly chased the customers away and hurried out.
Mrs. Tan was right. The boy had returned and an elderly couple was with him. Although Mrs. Lin was a bit confused, she also felt happy.
.
“As I have told you, Mother-in-law. Something urgent came up that night which was why I had to leave. Please don’t misunderstand me. But first, I must apologize for leaving without notifying you.”
As the boy explained to her again and again, Mrs. Lin’s worry eased down. Of course, she didn’t want to believe Little Chen was capable of intimidating her son-in-law.
Little Chen must be troublesome, but Mrs. Lin had keen eyes for details. She had especially picked up this boy because she believed he was capable of protecting her family.
“So that’s what happened.” Mrs. Lin nodded in understanding. “Son-in-law, don’t worry. I’m not mad at you.”
“I am happy to hear that, Mother-in-law.” The guy scratched his head and chuckled. “Does that mean I still have a chance with your daughter? As you can see, I brought my parents.”
“Sure. Sure. You still have a chance.” Mrs. Lin couldn’t be any happier. It seemed like the heavens were working in her favor.
Sitting inside her apartment’s living room, she waited until Dylan dropped the juice glasses in front of the couple before facing them.
“Please make yourselves comfortable.” She smiled. “Since you’re both here, I can tell your son is really serious about my daughter.”
“Mrs. Lin, our son is a good boy. When he mentioned your daughter, we were very happy. The mother is very kind, surely, the daughter possesses the same quality.”
Mrs. Lin’s smile widened and she eagerly nodded. “That’s right-“
“Pfft.” Before she finished speaking, Dylan who had been standing in a corner and watching them in amusement almost broke into laughter.
Jonah and his parents stared at the guy confusingly.
“Mrs. Lin, is your son alright?”
“Oh, don’t mind him.” Mrs. Lin waved a dismissive hand and laughed lightheartedly, throwing Dylan a sideways glare. “Please forget he’s here. As we were saying…”
“Very well. I believe your daughter is a good match for my son. Mrs. Lin, be rest assured that you won’t find any shortcomings from our side. I heard your daughter is very beautiful and nice. She also gets paid handsomely at where she works.”
“My daughter is managing. I hope you can take great care of her in the future.”
Because Dylan couldn’t laugh in front of them, he left the living room and hurried inside his room, laughing his heart out.
It seemed his mother was very serious about that coward. She even gave him his sister’s hands easily.
“Big Sis.” He picked up his son and dialed Annie’s number, putting on a mischievous look. “Guess who’s going to be a bride soon.”
“Go to the point.” Annie didn’t like the guy’s tone. He sounded as if he was about to make trouble.
“Well, Mum just gave out your hand. Be prepared to be wed off to that coward soon. By the way, Big Sis. If you’re truly living with a man, why can’t you-“
*Beep* *Beep*
Dylan’s words were cut short by the beeping sound from the phone. He stared at the screen and found out his sister had just hung up on him.
Was he the only one who wasn’t a fan of this arranged marriage thing? His sister appeared so cool about it. Would she just go with the flow? Otherwise, what was she up to?
Before Dylan could drop his phone, a message notification popped up. When he read the message, the mischievous smile wiped off, and blood drained from his face.
The once jolly guy now looked as if he was about to be butchered.

At H District Apartment Building.
When Annie dropped her phone, she frowned a bit before she continued working on the documents in front of her.
It was as if Dylan’s words weighed nothing. There was no change in her expression whatsoever, and the man sitting in front of her narrowed his eyes.
“Who were you on the phone with?” He asked in a displeased tone.
Annie lifted her head, giving him a cold smile. “Mr. Lim, you restricted me from leaving the apartment. Isn’t it useless that you interrogate me while I’m sitting here in front of you?”
“I was just helping you. Obviously, you have a lot of work to do.”
Annie chuckled at his seriousness. “If you hadn’t given me this enormous task, I would have had enough time to visit X District. It makes me think Mr. Lim did it intentionally.”
“What if I said yes?”
Annie laughed and looked down at her work. “If that is true, is it also true that Mr. Lim is growing on me? Obviously, you don’t want to part with me.”
