Chapter 152: Chapter 152

The Next Day, At MystiArt Productions.

It was a morning ritual for all the secretaries to share the gossip going on in the company before work hours officially resumed.

So those who arrived early would have a long time chatting, if not fighting among themselves. Just like this morning, they couldn’t close their mouths about the current happenings in the company.

“Are you sure it was a heart attack? Isn’t it strange that a man as strong as Mr. Yang would develop a heart attack because of just that?”

“Hey, we’re talking about a scandal as huge as this one. Even if Mr. Yang is in the wrong, it should be normal that he develops a heart attack.”

“Girls, I don’t think It’s a heart attack. Mr. Yang just had a panic attack which must be because of the anxiety he developed during the meeting.”

“So it’s not a heart attack?”

“Come on, if it was a heart attack, Mr. Yang could die on the spot. Didn’t someone say that he’s recovering in the hospital and has been transferred out of the ER?”

“That’s a relief. I don’t want to think about what would happen if Mr. Yang had died in the company.”

“His ghost would be lurking in MystiArt Productions for sure and our happy days would be over.”

“Anyways, here comes our dear damsel,” One girl exclaimed and all their eyes turned to Annie.

The secretaries shook their heads and they all sighed at once.

“Ms. Lin, aren’t you the most pitiful of all? People said you got yourself into trouble during the meeting.”

“I think Ms. Lin’s lucky stars do not align with MystiArt Productions. Why do you keep jumping from one trouble to another?”

“Apparently, Ms. Lin offended the CEO twice yesterday. It wasn’t enough, you went and offend Mr. Wang and Mr. Wu too.”

“Ms. Lin, you are in a hot soup. Everyone knows how cunning those men are. Although Mr. Wu is only a shareholder now, no one can deny that he still holds power in MystiArt Productions.”

“The CEO must have had mercy on you and bailed you out! But I assure you those men will come after you.”

“Speaking of heart attacks, I think Ms. Lin should be the one to experience one. I also heard you were given the enormous task of helping Mr. Yang’s assistant investigate the case.”

“If it turns out that that video is real and Mr. Yang and his mistress get apprehended, won’t Ms. Lin be implicated?”

Annie ignored the girls and sat in her cubicle. She resumed working on the reports which were still piled up behind her chair.

The secretaries looked at her and some of them snickered while some of them simply shook their heads.

They thought this girl was unlucky. Unlike them, she had to work triple and also had to do an investigation that could turn out fruitless.

Was the CEO intentionally adding to her punishment? Seriously, they had thought in the past that the CEO had a thing for this girl.

But now, they realized they were wrong. This girl was just too unlucky. They had never seen someone as unlucky as her.

When Layla arrived, she rolled her eyes at the secretaries whose eyes were pinned on her friend as the girl worked silently in her cubicle.

Her eyes went to Annie and her heart sank. Yesterday, Layla was shocked when she heard about the things that unfolded during the meeting.

She was more worried for her friend when she heard that the girl got involved with Mr. Wang and his cunning friend, Mr. Wu.

“Hey, Annie. What’s up.” Layla approached Annie’s cubicle after dropping her bag in her own cubicle.

Annie looked up and smiled. “I won’t ask if you slept well. What’s up with those eyebags, Layla?”

Layla sighed and leaned against the desk, facing her. “You could ask me that again… I was so worried about you, I had a sleepless night, Annie… You offended Mr. Wang and Mr. Wu. And you also had to get involved in something which doesn’t concern you… Girl, I also think you’re unlucky.”

Annie lowered her eyes to the documents and laughed softly. “I’ll be fine, Layla… Don’t worry.”

“Don’t say that. How can you be fine? Even a man will be afraid to handle this kind of task. See, you have to sort out these damned reports. And now, you also have to act like a detective.”

Layla didn’t think the universe was being fair to the girl. She had read somewhere that people who are beautiful get into more trouble. And people who are beautiful and smart, get into the most problems in the world.

How could that notion hold true for her friend? In an actual sense, Annie was supposed to be living freely and happily. After all, she had a good heart.

“Can I join you, Annie?” Layla instantly proposed. “I can help you with the investigation. This way, I will be able to protect you. You know my brother has become a prominent figure in this company, so no one dares to bully me.”

Annie shook her head with a laugh. She opened her mouth and wanted to reply, but a sound came from behind Layla.

“Ms. Ju’an, It’s you again! Why can’t you stay in your cubicle for once?”

It was none other than Assistant Jiang’s voice and Layla looked irritated. If the assistant had allowed her to follow the CEO yesterday and bail her friend out, Annie wouldn’t have gotten into this trouble because she wouldn’t have gone to the meeting with the CEO.

“Hey, Assistant Jiang! Just shut up! Don’t you know how mad I’m at you right-“ Layla spun around and the remaining words died in her throat.

She came face to face with the CEO who was standing with the assistant. Instantly, she flew out of Annie’s cubicle and covered her mouth.

Together with the secretaries, they both greeted the man who had on a stoic expression. He didn’t look mad, but he didn’t answer their greeting.

And most of them weren’t surprised when he said the words, “Ms. Lin, in my office.”

“Argh!” Layla grabbed her hair and pulled the assistant after Annie left with the man.

“Assistant Jiang, you’re in big trouble. Are you purposely bringing the CEO here without making a sound? Do you have anything against Annie? Tell me, what did Annie do to offend you?”

Assistant Jiang who was being shaken nonstop by the girl looked haggard immediately. “Huh?” How was it his fault? Was this lady crazy?
