Chapter 137: Chapter 137

Upstairs inside a bedroom.

The man could be seen lying on his bed, and seemingly deep in thought. His face held a small frown and his eyes were fixed on the TV screen ahead.

Knowing that she wouldn’t return to the apartment, he thought it better to just spend the night here. At least, he wouldn’t wake up with an aching neck.

The bed here was much bigger and more comfortable.

Yet, like always, whenever she wasn’t around, sleep was far from his eyes. If he had known that she was his cure three years ago, would he have let her go?

He would have caged her at home and shredded the divorce papers in front of her. She wasn’t this stubborn then. He could use force to hold her back. If he had known she was this stubborn three years ago, he wouldn’t regret doing that.

“Andy…” A soft knock came from the door and a look of irritation flashed on the man’s eyes.

He remained silent and moments later, Rayne gently pushed the door open and sauntered into the room.

She was no longer in a bathrobe. The girl had changed into her nightwear and from the calm look on her face, one could tell she was in a good mood.

What miracle transformed the spiteful girl from minutes ago into a docile and harmless-looking girl?

It had something to do with whatever the Chef must have told her.

Carefully, she walked inside the room without making a sound. Like someone trying to tame a raging beast, her movements were measured.

The man looked in her direction and the storm in his eyes made her want to turn back. But Rayne knew this was her only chance to gain back his trust.

Breathing deeply, she resumed walking and sat on the floor beside the bed.

“When will you pack your things and leave?”

His words fell on her like knives. They were harsher than what he said moments ago. But she maintained her gentle composure, resting her head on the bed.

“Andy…” Her voice was soft and genle, carrying a grief that wallowed in the room. She lifted her head and stared into his eyes. “You know… three years ago when she left you, I was always by your side. I did my best to repair the damage she left behind…”

Reminding him of what happened three years ago brought more storms to the man’s eyes.

Despite his glare, Rayne went on speaking. “Have you ever wondered why I never left your side?” She asked with a sigh. “I also thought the same.”

“Rayne-“

“I’m not here to confess my feelings.” She interrupted him. “And I want you to know that I understand if you still have feelings for her.”

Those words were like poison to Rayne’s heart. Yet, she had no choice but to say them. To gain back his trust.

“I was only mad that day because of what she did three years ago… You gave her your whole heart and she used that to her advantage and trampled on it.”

“Andy.” She grabbed his arm. “We’re not enemies, right? We can’t be enemies. We grew up together and we know each other more than siblings do.”

“If you never want to marry me, I won’t force you. All I want is for you to be happy with whatever you do.”

“What are you aiming at?”

Rayne was glad that she was finally getting the man’s attention. “I want to tell you that I’m sorry for suggesting you get rid of her.” She bit her lips for a few seconds then continued. “Even if she was your mortal enemy, I shouldn’t have suggested that. After all, a life is important. And I now know how much you love her.”

“Who told you so?”

Hearing his words, Rayne frowned a bit. This man who had changed so rapidly, she would never be able to point her fingers at what he was thinking.

He was living with that girl. Who knew what she did to charm him back into her life? Yet, he was denying that he still loved her.

Nevertheless, Rayne was more than happy. Her sigh this time wasn’t a pretense. It was a sigh of relief.

But one thing boggled her mind. If he didn’t love her, why was he staying with her? She didn’t believe the man would lie to her.

What would he gain in return?

Well, whether he loved that girl or not, Rayne was obligated to get rid of her. She always regretted not doing that three years ago.

Rayne was deep in thought and the man found her silence strange. “If that is all, leave me alone.”

Apparently, he didn’t appreciate her presence. “Even better, leave this city and go back to your family. No one forced you to stay back.”

Rayne’s happiness washed away, hearing his words. But she had to maintain her composure. “I told you the reason why I’m staying here.”

“The entertainment industry in the other city is also booming.”

“Andy.” Rayne faked a smile. “You get to explore and even secure a company in another city. Why can’t I do that too? Is it because I’m a girl?”

“You didn’t hear me say that.”

“Hmmm…” Rayne looked at him. “If you want me to depart this Villa, I will. I just don’t want to leave this city yet. I want to get a foothold here and someday, make a name for myself in the entertainment industry.”

“I’m not against that.” For the first time, the man looked at her. “If you’re solely staying back for business, you can have the Villa and do whatever you want.”

For the first time, the man was having a normal conversation with her. Rayne wanted to tear up and she found it hard to compose herself.

“Y- You mean, I can have the whole Villa?” She asked in an innocent voice.

Surely, showing the man that she had no interest in him was the only way to make him let down his guard and pull down those barriers.

The Chef was not completely stupid after all.

“I said you can have it,” He replied calmly. “Rayne, quit being hard on yourself. The world doesn’t revolve around you.”
