Chapter 9: Chapter 9
Chapter Eight
Sonya
Next day Sonya went to school a little early. As she looked at her watch and see that she almost was twenty minutes early. Damn it. As she reached for her first class she saw Shane and his friends hanging out outside the class. She halted in her steps.
She decided to turn her back and walk away but unfortunately she catches Shane's eyes. She hated her strong eye contact. Everyone in that group turned in her direction. Sonya didn't know what to do. So she raised her eyebrows and started walking walking back.
"Hey, New girl."
Someone called from behind. Sonya stopped walking and turned back. She walked up to them and said, "Well hello, Old boys."
They all smiled. One of them said
"We didn't get a chance to introduce ourselves. I am Alex. He is Noah. Michael. Liam. And of course, you know my friend Shane."
Sonya nodded. "Well now I know." she said. "Yes, you do." That guy name Alex said.
"You did a great job at firing us back." Noah said.
"No idea what you are talking about." Sonya said. She knows that cameras work now, recording their every moves and voices. She's not gonna leave any evidence and she very well told herself that nothing happened.
"You know very well about what we're talking about." Liam said.
"No I don't." Sonya said. They all looked at her like they all were studying her. There was an awkward silence and Sonya tried to fill it. "I don't know about me but you all did a good job. I am sure you know what I am talking about."
"We didn't do anything." Michael said.
"Yeah right, just like I didn't do anything." Sonya replied.
"Look if you wanna survive here…" Alex was cut off in mid sentence "... If I tried to do anything against you then I'm as good as dead meat? Is that what you were trying to say? That you play basketball so own the school? Because some girls cheer for all of you? That you have connections with people? That some of you or all of you are rich? And most importantly that if I don't suck up your crap you all make my life hell? Yup, I've heard all that bullshit. Been there, done that. If you have something new in your mind then say it otherwise I'm not interested."
"Don't come our way and we won't come in yours." Finally Shane spoke up.
"Great, I want the same thing 'Don't come in my way and I won't come into yours'." Sonya said.
"Anything else?" Sonya asked.
"How's your preparation going for presentation?" Shane asked in a mocking tune. Shane hasn't said anything about this to his friends. They all were looking at Shane with a question in their eyes. Shane gave them a look and they all understand to ask about it later.
"You seem to worry about my presentation? What happened? You didn't prepare for your presentation?" Sonya asked with raised eyebrows.
"I'm not worried and know this very well I am gonna beat you in presentation." Shane retorted.
Sonya didn't say anything. Sonya have this weird nature but when she instantly say something about a challenge then she lose it for sure but when she held back any witty comeback she always seems to give a hard slap on people's face with her performance. She performed so well that even the people she hated turn back to respect her, if not to like her.
Sonya gave a look when she heard footsteps behind her. She saw a man came and opened the room and left. After that students started appearing. Sonya and Shane's friends also got inside.
Class went smoothly without any problem. Bell rang and they went to different directions. After third period of english Sonya was walking in the corridor to get to her next class. She had her fingers around the straps of her backpack. Suddenly Shane comes and stands in front of her. Sonya stops in her tracks.
"You're on your periods." Shane looks at Sonya and whispers.
"What?" Sonya asked with a confused expression. She caught the words but not the meaning of it.
"You're on your periods. There are blood stains on your skirt." Shane still was whispering looking down at her. Sonya realised what was being said. Her expressions went from shock to embarrassment. She backed away in a hurry, with her footsteps quick, facing Shane. She looked around and glanced around to see if anyone was paying attention or not. No one was paying attention but she couldn't hide her shame wondering for how much longer she has been like this. If anyone noticed. She was utterly humiliated.
"Don't move." Shane shrugged off his jacket and gave it to Sonya. Sonya took it and Shane motioned her tie it around her waist. She did as he told her to. He then turned Sonya came behind her with his hands on her shoulders. He pushed her and walked her to ladies toilet. Sonya entered the toilet.
She went to one of the stalls. She then took out a tampon from her bag. She did not feel any pain of cramps. She probably lost track of her period cycle. Shit! She did her things. She was mortified thinking someone found out that she was on her periods. That someone being a guy and worst of all, Shane.
Why him god? Sonya was grateful that he told her otherwise she would be wandering around with blood stained skirt. She cringed at that.
When she was done with everything she picked her bag but suddenly stopped as she picked his jacket that he gave her to cover herself. She felt she needed to clean it considering she used it to hide her stains.
It might be dirty. She couldn't face the whole damn school now. She came outside and looked around but Shane was nowhere to be found. She decided to end her day at school. She left the school. She was mortified.
Sonya went home and then take out her fresh clothes. She showered and changed. Sonya then looked at the jacket. She spent an hour to wash his jacket and dry it. Finally, Sonya took a seat on the bed. She looked at the jacket and sighed thinking about this incident.
Sonya was relieved. Shane has always been a moron but she never got the creepy vibes from him. She knew one thing, he won't say anything to anyone. She has no idea why but she knew.
Next day Sonya carefully packed his jacket with her. She then started her journey to school. Sonya got to her class but Shane was absent. Still his friends was there. Alex gave her two finger salute. Michael and Noah smiled and Liam said "Yo new girl." with a wink.
Sonya raised her one eyebrow and said
"Yo old boys."
Sonya saw that none of them were looking at her with any difference. Maybe she was right. Shane didn't tell anyone. Or they are behaving too nice. Whatever. Sonya had already convinced herself that it happened to every girl once in their life and it's natural. No need to be ashamed of it.
Sonya took her seat and turned to them. "Where's your leader today?" Sonya asked.
"Who's our leader? Shane? Nope he's not our leader. He had some work so he's not going to attend this class. Why did you ask though?" Michael said.
"No reason. You all are always together. So it seems weird to see only four of you." Sonya replied. Michael nodded.
Whole class went the way it always does. Only problem was that Sonya has to carry his jacket.
After two periods she went to her locker and looked in Shane's locker direction. No one was there then suddenly she saw Shane coming towards his locker. Sonya sighed. Shane caught her eyes and Sonya started walking in his direction. She stopped at his locker. She reached in her bag and handed him his jacket.
"Thanks. It's clean. If you're wondering." she said looking at him.
"So that's where you disappeared yesterday? To wash my jacket? I would've washed it myself, anyway." Shane replied.
"I looked for you but you disappeared. And, yeah, after that me too." Sonya said. "You didn't tell anyone right?" Sonya asked.
"I don't do such things." Shane replied.
"Alright then." Sonya replied. Sonya felt an ache. He earned a little respect from her. If there was any other guy who seen her like that, God she didn't even want to think about that. Yup. Not a creep at all.
Shane
"Yo dude, today is your turn to treat us for coffee. Remember?" Noah said. They were sitting in canteen.
"I know. I know." Shane replied. Shane started to get up to go and buy them coffee when suddenly Liam stopped him.
"Let's go outside for coffee this time." he said.
"Alright but where? Do you know any place?"
Shane asked.
"Yeah, there is a coffee shop nearby. Not to far away. One of my friends told me that they have the best coffee. Let's go there." Liam said. "I want to try that place to." He added.
"Fine we'll go there after the practice. Coach, anyway, will be leaving us much earlier today." Shane said. They all agreed.
Later after school they reached that coffee shop. All of them walked inside. They all looked in the direction of the counter and saw Sonya working. They all were shocked but then they all seem to snap out of it.
"Yo new girl, you work here?" Alex asked Sonya.
Sonya looked into there direction and had the same reaction as theirs. She was looking shocked then she replied "Yeah, what are you guys are doing here?" Sonya asked.
"Humm, we're here to have a cup of coffee?" Liam said with mocking tune.
"Oh..and I thought you were here to watch a movie. Stupid me. What are you doing here? As in I've never seen you before here." Sonya said.
"Well you see us now. Don't worry, we know now that you're working here we'll be a regular customers here. Shane is treating us for coffee, that's what we're doing here." Noah said.
"Alright whatever, order and take a seat. Coffee will be there in a minute." Sonya replied.
Shane didn't say anything. He was shocked to see her but there was another problem going in his mind.
They all ordered and took a seat in a corner. Some other waitress delivered their coffee. They thanked her and continue talking about random stuff.
Finally Shane asked for the bill. Shane looked at the bill and he paled. It was too much then he had expected. He did not have that much money with himself. His friends will help him without any judgement and pay their own bills but it was supposed to be his treat. Crap. Alex looked at Shane and asked "Everything alright?"
"Yeah, everything is alright. I'm going to meet that new girl. I have something to tell her. I'll be right back."
"Okay." Alex said.
Shane made his way to Sonya.
"Hey listen." he said to Sonya. Sonya turned to him.
"Yes?" Sonya replied.
"Is it possible if I pay half the money now and the rest of it later?" Shane said quietly.
"You don't have enough money?" Sonya asked while her expression was serious.
"I don't think I have enough. You know me. I will return it a little later." Shane said. He was on the edge of desperation.
Sonya sighed and gestured him for cash.
"Pay the bill."
Shane handed her money. He noticed that it didn't even covered half of the money. He cringed. He was embarrassed of this
situation. Sonya then took out her wallet and then some money. She then dropped it into money counter. She paid the rest of his bill. Shane first, was confused but when he realised what was happening he tried to stop her but it was already done.
"Thank you so much. Please return for another cup of coffee." Sonya said.
"I'll return your money in school." Shane said quietly.
"No you won't. You helped me in school and I helped you here. So I don't owe you anything now." Sonya said.
"I didn't do it for money." Shane replied frustrated.
"Neither did I." Sonya replied.
Shane friends came beside him.
"Is there a problem Shane. You know we can pay for our own coffee." Michael said.
"He already did." Sonya said. Michael looked at her. Then back to Shane.
"Then what's taking you so long?" Michael asked.
"Nothing, he was just asking if I had spat in
any of your coffees. I said no. I don't do such things." Sonya said.
"Well then, let's go. Bye New girl." Liam said.
"Bye, old boys." Sonya said.
As they all were walking towards the door Shane turned and mouthed 'thank you' to her. Sonya nodded. Then Shane and his friends went their own way.
