Chapter 10: Chapter 10

Chapter Nine

Sonya

Sonya was doing homework sitting on the bed when she felt the room has become a little hot. She sighed. Sonya hated being interrupted when she's doing her homework or studying. Still she can't ignore this rising temperature.

She has started to sweat. Finally she stood went to the window and pulled the curtains aside and opened the window completely. Same guy. That same creepy guy was standing there with a blank expression, looking at her. Sonya was a hell lot irritated by now.

She closed the window and pulled back the curtains. Then she went straight to Kara. She saw Kara was on her laptop. Sonya was angry but at the same time scared. Sonya nudged Kara.

"Hey Kara. Got some time?"

Kara looked up at her.

"Yeah, What's up?"

"Who lives in the next door house?"

"Oh, James. His father owns the house but he and his wife lives in another house. Why do you ask?"

Sonya thought for a second.

"Nothing." Sonya said.

She didn't want to be a burden on Kara. Always looking out for her. Also if this goes on for more time she will tell Kara. He didn't even do anything. Let's wait.

"He's a really nice guy. Have you met him?"

Sonya almost gave a reaction of disgust but she managed to keep a stoic face. His creepy stare coming into her mind.

"Nice guy? I don't know. I've just seen him here. So I asked."

"Are you alright? You seem weird. He's a really nice guy. You should meet him."

"Naa I'm good. Introvert problems. And about that 'weird' part I'm always weird." Sonya said.

"Well, that's true." Kara replied.

"What? I said it for the sake of saying. If that's what you think then I'm not doing dishes today."

"Hey, I've been doing the dishes every night. You have to do it."

"Now you're exaggerating. I've done dishes at least two times this week. Plus not to mention about your clothes I washed mistakenly. There were three clothes of yours."

"I don't believe this." Kara hit Sonya with a pillow. "You washed them mistakenly and washed the dishes only two times. You're counting the clothes?"

Sonya picked the pillow and Kara hit her with and another pillow. Sonya threw both pillows at Kara which missed their mark. Kara started to laugh and picked both pillows and hit Sonya with it and of course, it hit Sonya on her head and stomach. It threw Sonya off balance and she falls hard on the floor.

"I hate it that I don't have a good aim." Sonya picked pillow while Kara picked another one. Both started fighting with pillows. Kara threw a pillow on Sonya's face and Kara saw an opportunity, she picked the side blanket and throws it over Sonya. Sonya started struggling.

"You will do dishes or else I'll make you meet James." Kara said.

"No you won't." Sonya said struggling.

"You sure about that?" Kara asked still struggling in keeping Sonya under the blanket.

Sonya shut up quickly. Kara will made her meet him. Holy Hell.

"Okay fine. I'll do the damn dishes. Don't you dare introduced me to him." Sonya said who finally managed in coming out of the blanket.

"Well there young lady. You should have agreed to me earlier and stop cursing it doesn't suit you." Kara said heavily breathing and trying to hold on to her laughter.

"Oh, to hell with you.."Sonya said throwing another pillow at Kara that misses its mark again. Kara laughed at her reaction.

Next day Sonya went straight for her history class. She saw 'Old boys' group and she waved. Whole class now started to accept their weird peace treaty because none of them paid much attention. Sonya sat on her seat and said "What's up?"

It was weird for her to start a conversation herself. She felt awkward. Her gaze went to Shane who for some reason looking annoyed and slightly angry.

"Nothing much. What are you doing?" Noah said.

"Nothing." Sonya said.

Sonya was still looking at Shane who seems to get more angry with the time. Liam notice where Sonya was looking. He said

"Stop scaring her Shane." Shane looked at him with an annoyed face.

"He's not scaring me. Don't worry." Sonya replied.

Liam made a mocking face. Shane was just going to reply when the professor entered the classroom. Everyone settled in their seats.

"Everyone, your presentation is the day after tomorrow so you better be prepared. After two days of your presentation you all will give test. Mark your calendars. I repeat what I've already told you there will not be any retest. So prepare to give your best."

Goosebumps started on Sonya's both arms and a wave of electricity shoot down Sonya's spine.

Sonya has been preparing for presentation and is done with it. Still how can she present it in front of everyone. 'Calm down. It's not today.' Sonya calmed herself.

After gym class Sonya was walking lazily to her locker. Suddenly an arm came out of nowhere and pulled her into an empty room. Another arm came and covered her mouth. Sonya used her both arms and pulled both arms from against her. She turned and saw of course, Shane.

"What the hell." Sonya said.

She was so surprised that she didn't have a chance to get angry.

"Stay away from me and my friends. Stop trying to be a part of our group when you're not. Make your own group. Stop behaving like a lost puppy looking for attention." Shane said it with an intense look in his eyes. He said it without taking a break.

"Alright then. Make sure to keep your friends away from me. I don't want them to even say 'Hi' to me and same goes for You." Sonya replied. "And one more thing if you ever, EVER touched me like this again or pull this shit, Sonya waved her hand gesturing between him and door, again then you better take care of your testicles or your neck because I will snap it in half." Sonya turned angry, really angry.

Shane looked at her and his anger dimmed after seeing her so furious eyes. He was nervous and honestly, scared. He hasn't seen a girl getting so mad like this. He knew he is bigger than her and probably can pin her down but her every word was dripping with a promise and her furious will. He took a few steps back.

"Alright." Shane said.

Sonya didn't say anything. She opened the door and disappeared with her furious gaze.

Sonya went straight to her home. She entered and saw her mom sitting on sofa talking to Kara.

"Mom."

Sonya's mom stood and hugged her. She took Sonya's face in her head and kissed her forehead. They both took a seat.

"How you're doing Sonya? You don't even call us anymore." Sonya's mom said. Taking a seat on the sofa. Kara also took a seat.

"It's not like that mom. Just getting used to this new routine. How's daddy? He didn't come with you?"

"No honey. He wanted to but he's busy. How's your study is going? Kara did she brought you any trouble?" She chuckled.

"No Mrs Allison. At least not until now. We'll see what she does in her future." Kara said.

Sonya felt embarrassed. Her mom was behaving like she was a kid.

"I've just started mom. I can't say how I'm doing. I'm trying to adjust. I'll try my best."

"Okay, but try to keep me informed about your progress." Sonya looked at Kara who rolled her eyes. Sonya's mother stood up.

"I have to leave now. Let me know if you need anything." She said and hugged both girls and said goodbye. After she left the house Kara turned to look at Sonya.

"Your parents seems more concerned about your career than you are. How you handle this?"

"Practice, girl practice. I've taken two days leave from my work." She sighed. "I have to prepare for the presentation."

"I thought you were done with the presentation." Kara said.

"No. It's a day after tomorrow so don't disturb me while I'm preparing for it."

"Alright princess. Anything else?"

"No. That'll be all." Sonya said with a two finger salute.

Later that night after Sonya was going downstairs for dinner she saw a notification. It said that tomorrow's history class is cancelled but presentation and test will be on the fixed dates. 'Oh for god's sake. What should I do?' Sonya grumbled and shivered a little. This task seems like crossing a mountain. She totally forgot about the early encounter with Shane. Next day Sonya spent all time preparing. She was a little scared and more irritated. She just wanted to get done with it.

Finally the day of the presentation arrives. Sonya didn't look up when she entered. Sonya noticed no one was present from that group. She felt a little calmer. She spent her time listening to other people's presentation. Sonya was sitting in her seat and waiting for her time to present. When her name was called she takes out her water bottle and gulped some of the water from it. She calmed herself. 'Just do it.' Sonya told herself. She goes up to the stage and starts her presentation. She starts her presentation without looking at anyone in particular. She starts with Introduction. Then goes on and on telling about the background of topic, main body, facts, examples, case studies, pictures. She finally concludes everything then presents the list of sources she took help from. At the end of the presentation everyone applauds really hard for her. She turns suddenly towards the entry door and was greeted with the sight of Shane and his friends entering the room. They look to Sonya to the crowd then back to Sonya. Alex and Noah applause for her while walking to sit. Sonya watch them with blank expressions. Sonya then say "Thank you" walked straight to her desk.

"It seems you've done a great job……"

Michael trailed off as Sonya throws her pen drive and laptop into bag and without looking at any of them walk straight out of the room.

Sonya spent her rest of the time in library. Later when she goes to her locker she expected to see Lisa. Unfortunately, she was not there. Sonya sighed. She started to mess with her books when suddenly someone enters her sight.

"Hey." It was Amy.

"Hi Amy." Sonya said.

"Do you know that you and Shane got the highest marks in presentation?" She said. She was beaming.

"Uh… No. Highest marks?"

"Yeah. You both got nine out of ten." Amy said.

"How do you even know? Is Marks list officially out?" Sonya asked.

"No. Who's gonna wait that long. Some of the students saw the list when professor wasn't paying attention." Amy said.

"Okay. I didn't know about that. What about his rest of the friends?"

"Oh. Liam got seven and a half, Michael got eight, Alex got seven and Noah got eight marks." Amy said looking up like she was thinking. 'What a great memory.' Sonya thought to herself.

"Oh okay. Thank you for letting me know." Sonya said.

"That's alright. See you later."

"Yeah. See you." Sonya said. This was the feeling of achievement. Her hard work always pays. Sonya was feeling great. She spent her rest of the time with peace in school.
