Chapter 31: Chapter 31
Chapter Thirty
Shane
Three days. It had been three days since Shane attented school and went home. Heavy work came up in garage and he needed to get it done. Although it was another excuse not to meet Sonya and face her. Shane was ashamed by the fact that Sonya knew all the messy things from his past. He was upset that his most private secrets were revealed without his permission. He also felt betrayed by his friends. But most of all, the thing that hurt him the most was, now Sonya will only see him as someone who had been abused and discarded than to a person who was a normal person.
That ... that hurt him the most.
The fear of seeing Sonya's pity was too great for him to stop seeing her at all. It turned him into a coward and thus, he decided to not see her at all. Instead, he worked day and night in his garage, trying to come up with something that will help sort this whole situation. However, it did not last long as he expected. On the third night of his work, he was done with everything. And therefore had no reason or an excuse to hide from her anymore.
So, today he decided to go to his school and finally face his fear. He could not delay it anymore. He had to deal with it someday, sooner or later. There was no point in putting this for later, so today it was.
Shane went to his school and entered his classroom to attend the first period. As soon as he entered, his eyes darted to where Sonya sit usually. Though, to his surprise, he saw another girl sitting there and Sonya was nowhere to be found. His friends were in their normal seats, so Shane headed in their direction.
Sliding his bagpack on desk, Shane slid in his seat before turning to his friends. Shane noticed that Liam was also missing from his group. Something felt off.
"Where's Liam? And where's Sonya?" Shane asked his friends.
"Hey Shane." Noah said sarcastically but Michael shushed him.
"Don't know. Liam skipped school and so did Sonya." Alex told Shane. "However, Sonya's been skipping school for three days now. While this was the only day Liam skipped school." Alex further explained.
"Why? What happened? Did something come up for him at home?" Shane asked Alex.
Alex shook his head. "No. Well, I don't know. He just texted me, saying that he was going to skip school today. And something came up." He told Shane.
Shane frowned. "Why's Sonya skipping school for three days?" Shane asked. He knew for a fact that Sonya was not a person who would skip school because Shane stormed off that night on the porch. Suddenly, something seem to struck Shane and he turned toward Michael.
"Did you tell Sonya about that night? About our fight?" He asked. Shane felt a sudden wave of panic coming over him. He really, really did not want Sonya to found out about it. It will ruin everything for him.
All of Shane's friends gave each other a look before Michael spoke. "No. I did not. However ..." Michael let the sentence hang in the air, like he was contemplating if he should continue or not.
"However what?" Shane asked. Feeling anxiety creeping up on him.
"Don't, Michael." Noah interrupted Michael. Alex looked sideways, avoiding eye contact with Shane.
"Don't what?" Shane questioned. Now, completely on alert. The tension was increasing by the second.
Michael did not say anything for few seconds, but then as if he came to a decision, he spoke again.
"I think something happened between, Sonya and Liam." Michael told Shane.
A breath left Shane's lung, and he glanced at Noah before looking back at Michael. "What do you mean?"
"Uh-" Michael opened his mouth but the teacher walked in, interrupting them.
The whole class turned to face professor. Michael whispered, "Later" and they all turned to teacher. Shane felt as if something bad had happened. But he could not do anything at that moment. Therefore, he forced himself to let the topic rest for that moment.
Shane attended the lecture, eagerly waited for it to end. When it did, Shane turned to his friends immedietaly.
"Now tell me." Shane said to Michael. Noah rolled his eyes and Michael let out a breath.
"I think Sonya and Liam is avoiding each other. On purpose. I think something happened between them after your fight. I don't know what but since the day you fought with me, Sonya has been avoiding our whole group. Even Kara. Although, her not that much." Michael told Shane.
Shane's ear pricked up after hearing it. He felt a shiver run back in his spine and he stood up.
"Why didn't you tell me earlier?" Shane questioned.
"Did you forget that you told us all to leave you alone for some time. That you were too 'Busy'?" Noah spoke in Michael's place.
"'Leave me alone' but not for this. You could have just shot me a message. I would have read it." Shane said.
"Now, how were we supposed to know that? How were we supposed to know that we should leave you alone but not for this? Or leaving you a message was an exception, in not bothering you. While you were being Busy." Noah mocked Shane.
"Noah." Alex warned Noah.
"What? Don't tell me you feel the same. How were we supposed to know it? Just like how were we supposed to know that he did not think Sonya as his girlfriend? And yet let us believe and probably Sonya also, that they were in a relationship?" Noah asked Alex. Alex shut up and did not reply to Noah's question which bascially meant that he agreed with Noah too.
In that moment, a sudden urge to hit Noah, came over Shane but he did not. Instead, he picked up his bagpack and walked out of his classroom. He needed to find both Sonya and Liam.
Something was going on and Shane knew it. He just had to find out. Otherwise, it might be to late for him.
