Chapter 30: Chapter 30
Chapter Twenty-Nine
Sonya
Sonya had not seen Shane since yesterday night, after he left hearing her talk about him. She was not sure but she felt as if she had hurt his feelings. Or somehow, maybe she said something to him that he did not like, she ended up offending him. Even though it was not her intentions.
Last night when she went to sleep, she heard him leave. In the morning when she went in to check on him, he was already gone. Meaning, he did not come home back to sleep at all. Now, she felt guilty without even knowing what she had done to him. All she could do at the moment was to wait for him to return home since he was not picking up his phone. Sonya decided that she would meet him, right after finishing up with her part-time job.
It was in the late afternoon when she finally was finished with her job. Sonya hurridly finished up with her work and headed out. She was about to leave when suddenly she heard her name being called from behind. When she turned she saw Liam standing behind her.
"Liam?" Sonya called out to Liam. He nodded his head.
"Hi, Sonya." Liam greeted Sonya. He was leaning against his motorcycle.
Sonya smiled and approached him. However, she noticed that something was different today. Liam was looking all serious and did not smile back. Not even put any effort to look, like he was happy to see her. There was something wrong. Definitely.
Sonya's smile disappeared on her own as she came to stand in front of him. She sensed something serious was coming and that something had happened. A bad thing.
"What's wrong?" Sonya questioned Liam directly. Skipping all pleasantries.
"Shane and Michael fought yesterday." Liam told Sonya.
Sonya's heart skipped a beat as she heard it. "What?" She asked Liam. "Why?"
"Shane and Michael fought yesterday. Because of you." He told Sonya. Whose shocked expression changed into a confused one.
"Because of me? What do you mean?" Sonya asked.
"You asked Michael about Shane and he told you. But Shane did not like it. He said that Michael invaded his privacy." Liam explained to Sonya.
Sonya was rendered speechless for a second. She tried to make sense of every information that was being thrown towards her. She shook her head.
"That is ridiculous. Why would he think that?" Sonya questioned. Still confused by why would Shane feel like his privacy was compromised.
"That's exactly my question. Why would he think that?" Liam asked. "I thought you were his girlfriend and both of you were in a official relationship. But apparently you're not. Shane said it himself. That you were not his girlfriend." Liam told Sonya.
A sharp pain in chest. A sudden and sharp, electric like pain shot through Sonya. Her throat suddenly felt clogged by something. Sonya's eyes darted on the floor, for some reason, not able to look Liam in his eyes.
"Shane said that?" Sonya asked, her voice lower now.
"Humm. He said it himself. Which is weird because all this time all of us felt like you were with him. In fact, our whole friend group thought it that way. Well, until tomorrow." Liam said.
Feeling tears filling her eyes, Sonya forced herself to breathe deep and look away before meeting Liam's eyes. She could not cry in front of him. No. Especially for Shane. She would not do it. So, stared in the distance until she felt her eyes drying up a bit.
"Why are you here? And why are you telling me this? You heard your friend, I'm not his girlfriend or anything. So, why are you telling me this matter that's related to him?" Sonya finally questioned Liam. At last, in condition where she could speak.
"Because the problem is you." Liam said. Making Sonya's head snap in his direction. Sonya stared at him in disbelief with shocked widened eyes. Did she hear him right?
"What?" Sonya asked. Her voice rising a pitch, unable to rein in her emotions this time.
"I said, you are the problem. You are breaking our friend group apart. Michael and Shane is fighting because of you. I and Noah had to pick a side in this fight and all of this, is because of you." Liam said.
"It was your fault that you ask Michael something that Shane never shared. Michael felt obligated to answer you because, of course, he thought you were with him and deserved an answer. When all this time you were fooling us by pretending to be in a relationship with Shane." He accused Sonya.
Sonya could not believe what she was hearing. She heard everything that Liam was saying and felt as if her whole world had crumpled right beneath her feel. She, in never miilion years, thought that Liam would have thoughts about Sonya like this. She never thought she was being painted as a culprit in his mind, all this time when he was with Shane. In fact, she had considered him her friend. But this ...
"Don't look so shock. It was not Michael's fault that you wanted to satisfy your curiousity and ended up outing, Shane's some of the most private matters. And yet, Shane fought with him. Over You." Liam let out a sarcastic chuckle.
"It is not my fault either Liam. But I won't give any explainations to you, since you already painted me as your villian." Sonya told Liam with big efforts. Her teared filled throat did not allow her to speak without threatening for her tears to leak.
When had she, in her wildest thoughts believed that something like this would happen. That someone whom she considered a friend would say something like this to her.
Sonya tried not to cry but a tear leaked out of her eye, which she swiftly flicked away. Taking a deep breath, she blinked quickly.
"You don't have to worry about your friend group. I won't be the reason of any fight in your group from now on. I won't be a problem anymore." Sonya told Liam. Her face cold and her voice sharp.
"Send your all friends my regard. And thank you for enlightening me with your mindful thoughts Liam, I will remember them forever." Sonya said. With her last words, she turned around and stormed out of that place.
