Chapter 27: Chapter 27

Chapter Twenty-Six

Shane

Shane's mind had been in a constant frenzy ever since Sonya had stormed off in the evening after their confrontation. He knew the moment his mouth betrayed him and let the words slipped out, putting the blame on Sonya, when he very well knew that it was not her fault but his, he messed up.

In that moment, he had all but become defensive. Knowing that she called him out on his mistakes and he could not bear to hear from anyone that he messed up. Thus, in a moment of defense, he resorted to shift the blame away from him. And it ended in disaster to nobody's surprise.

Sonya stormed off, rightfully so and Shane could not do anything about it. But it did not mean that was at ease. Throughout the whole evening, he eyed Sonya, barely paying attention to his meal. Sonya did not even glanced his way for once and did not even look into his direction of sitting.

Shane despreately waited for a chance to have her alone and apologise but it was like she was going out of her way to stay away from him. In evening when he heard from Kara as she was leaving that, Sonya was going to help James with cleaning up and that she was not going home until late at night, Shane understood that it was because of him. That made him feel more guilty. Because he realised that this was all his fault.

Not giving it much thought, Shane went in the house that both Shane and Sonya shared and waited. His friends had asked him to come and join in to play ice hockey, but he told them no. He could not have focused on it anyway. The only thing that was occupying his mind was Sonya. He would not be able to enjoy anything, as long as he knew that she had not forgiven him.

With this thought in his mind, Shane waited in the house. He felt hollow in the empty house. Kara was out with Alex on a date. Sonya was helping James and the entire house was completely empty. The house was dead quiet, so much so that he could hear the water falling out of it's tap. It was not like Shane was scared of darkness or being alone in the house but the fact, he was waiting for someone so impatiently and the person was literally the next door, something made this whole situation weird.

Anyway, to avoid feeling so weird Shane decided it was better to watch television while passing time. Shane switched on the T.V. and put on some movie. Shane forced himself to not think about Sonya and focus on the movie. However, as expected by Shane, he could not focus on the screen. His mind kept drifting back to his watch as he realise that time was passing way slower then normally. Maybe it was the wait that was doing this or maybe it was his patience.

Whatever it was, Shane could not take it anymore. Still, Shane made himself wait for few more minutes to see if she would return, but when there was still no sign of Sonya, Shane decided it was enough. He had waited for enough time, now he could not do it anymore.

He stood up, turned off the T.V. and put on his jacket as he made his way out of the house. It almost took no time to reach next house. He entered the house without ringing any bell. James had not locked it. Shane made his way to the kitchen where the voices were coming from. In a second, Shane recognised Sonya's voice as well as James'. However, for whatever reason, he stopped right outside the door of the kitchen and listened in without entering the place.

And what he heard made his blood boil from anger.

Right in front of her, James made a move on Sonya, telling her she was someone who he liked as more than friends.

Hearing this alone, Shane wanted to barge in and beat the living hell out of James. However, when he listened to what he said next made him tupple over his rage.

"James, I don't like you like that. I never did. You are nothing more than just a friend to me." Sonya denied his approach and told him no. This made Shane somewhat calm and he felt something warm settle inside his heart.

"If you did not in the past then you can start now. I will treat you better than Shane or any other jerk that might come your way. I will make you happy." James told Sonya. He kept on persisting even though she had already told him no.

"I told you I don't like you like that. So, please James let me go. It's time for me to go home." Sonya told James. Shane took a step to move in the kitchen when he was again stopped by James' confession.

"I saw you before he did. I watched you before he moved in this house Sonya. I observed you, your habits, your likes and dislikes throughout your stay here Sonya. I know that he is not the one that you want. Or at least, he is not the one you NEED." James told Sonya. This confession shocked Shane. It was known amongst his friends that they James was a little weird but this confession was not what he was expecting him to be.

James literally stalked her? He watched her through her room's window? Observed her? What the hell? This was not some obsessive behaviour but this was some sick, criminal like behaviour. Stalking a girl was not normal. For god sake's, it was a literal crime.

Shane was so shocked by this that he missed out on what happened next in the kitchen. However, as soon as he snapped out of his shocked state, without further delay, he barged inside the kitchen. Only to find Sonya trapped between James and counter, and James' hands raised in air as he was about to smack Sonya.

The next thing that happened, was completely out of Shane's control as his instincts took over and he grabbed James' by his collar and threw him on the ground and landed a solid punch on his cheek.

Shane growled in anger. "If you ever come near her again, I will break all your bones." With that he got up, grabbed Sonya's hand and left the place.

Shane did not let Sonya's hand go until they reached their house. Shane swiftly open their house's door and pulled Sonya inside before shutting the door shut. With that Shane, jerked Sonya to him and hugged her tightly. It took Sonya a moment before she returned Shane's hug back, but when she did it was just as tight as Shane.

"I'm sorry. For everything I did. I was stupid and everything I did was childish and purely out of jealousy. I'm sorry." Shane muttered over Sonya's head. Instead of replying to Shane, Sonya merely nodded her head and buried her head in Shane's shoulder.

And just like that Shane knew that he was forgiven.
