Chapter 26: Chapter 26
Chapter Twenty-Five
Sonya
As the night descended, everyone left for their homes. The whole plan of barbecue did not involve staying over for the night therefore as the time neared to night, people start taking their leave. The first person to leave the place was Alex and Kara. They both had decided to go for movie night and hang out til later. And after that she would be staying over at Alex's house.
After them, James's whole group of friends including Mathew, left for their homes as it was quiet far away. And slowly but surely, their friends- Michael, Noah, Liam and Shane also left for their home. But Sonya did not.
She had informed Kara that she would be helping James in clearing out all the mess since he lived alone and it would be too much for her. Not to mention, she did not want to be alone in her home with Shane. She was not sure if he would hang out with his friends or go straight home, where she might encounter him. After what happened today, she was not really in the mood to see him, less than talk to him. So, helping James until late at night was the best option for her thus she took it.
Both James and Sonya collectively cleaned outside and then moved to kitchen to clean things out. Sonya took the work of cleaning counter while James put back all remaining food in the fridge. He put left overs in air-tight box and placed them inside the fridge.
"Sonya?" James called out. Both of them were literally working side by side in the kitchen so Sonya heard him loud and clear.
"Yeah?" Sonya asked, spraying cleaning liquid to clean the counter.
"What's going on between you and Shane?" James asked. Sonya stopped in mid rubbing the surface of the counter and straightened.
"What do you mean?" Sonya asked James, spinning around to meet his eyes. James also stopped what he was doing and leaned on the side of fridge.
"I saw what happened between you two today." James said. Sonya felt as if she had been caught doing something wrong. "I know what happened on that night. And even though I was not there to witness it all, I know that Shane assuming things about you, made you hurt." He told Sonya.
Sonya felt a cold shiver had set over her. He knows. How did he know? Was she that obvious? Who told him? Shane? Someone from his group? Why was he talking about this? It was not any of his buisness.
"What are you talking about?" Sonya asked. Even though she knew there was no point in denying it or playing it dumb now. If he knew, that means everyone knew what was going on between them. How did they find out she had no idea but they did. What would she do now?
"But my question is, why are letting him treat you like this? You deserve so much better." James told Sonya. It made Sonya frowned.
"This is none of your buisness." Sonya told James through her clenched teeth, crossing her around her torso. Why were everyone interfereing in her matters? First Kara and now him. She did not get it.
"It is my buisness. I don't like anyone treat the person I like that way. Especially when that person is someone who I see more than just friends." James said.
Hearing James's confession, Sonya was caught so off guard that she did not even react when James made his over to her and trapped her in middle by both of his hands on the counter. Sonya did not realise what happened, but when it finally registered she straightened.
"James, I don't like you like that. I never did. You are nothing more than just a friend to me." Sonya replied and tried to step out of his cage. James did not move though.
"If you did not in the past then you can start now. I will treat you better than Shane or any other jerk that might come your way. I will make you happy." James told Sonya.
Sonya shook her rigerously and tried to push James back to give herself some space but James did not budge. Frustrated, Sonya repeated herself. "I told you I don't like you like that. So, please James let me go. It's time for me to go home." Sonya told James, still not raising her voice or snapping as she wished to do. Even though James was clearly pushing her limits.
"I saw you before he did. I watched you before he moved in this house Sonya. I observed you, your habits, your likes and dislikes throughout your stay here Sonya. I know that he is not the one that you want. Or at least, he is not the one you NEED." James told Sonya.
Sonya stared at James in shock, completly aghasted. Sonya felt sick as the realisation set in that he was stalking her through his window, that he did wait for her and watched her do things in her house. All of the insomnia and bugs hitting the window excuse he told, was actually a lie.
He stood at his window so he could observe her. Suddenly, Sonya felt as if someone had poured cold water on her head and now she was seeing things clearly. This realisation made her sick to her stomach.
Jerked out of her haze, Sonya tried to push James back but he did not. She was nothing in front of him. She could not outmatch his strength. So, she opted to ask him. "James let me go. It's getting dark, I have to go home." She told him.
"First answer my question. Preferbly in yes." James told Sonya, smirking at her. Angered by his smirk Sonya told him the truth. "No."
The moment the words left her mouth, James face's expression changed and he raised his hand in the air. As soon as Sonya expected a hit, she turned her face away but the hit never came. Instead she felt James weight move away from her.
When she glanced up to see what happened, she saw James on his back on the floor and Shane giving James a solid punch.
"If you ever come near her again, I will break all your bones." Shane growled.
With that he got up, grabbed Sonya's hand and left the place.
