Chapter 25: Chapter 25

Chapter Twenty-Four

Sonya

'Why did I agree to this? Why did I think it was a good idea? How can I not knew that he would be here as well?' Sonya thought as she saw Shane hanging out with James. She should have known that James would invite him.

She would have to ignore him now. Without being obvious, even though it was more than obvious to everyone that she was avoiding Shane.

But it was not her fault. He made her do it by insulting her. Whatever. Nothing could be done now.

Sonya thought for a second if she should make up some excuse to leave James's place but then decided against it. It was the first time that James had invited her to his place. It would be really rude of her if she made up some excuse to leave after turning in.

Sonya let out a sigh. It was just one evening. She can do it. She can go through it without coming in the proximity of Shane. Taking a deep breath, Sonya went up to meet James.

"Hey." Sonya said as she approached James. James looked to his side and gave Sonya a welcoming smile.

"Hey." James replied, cleaning his hands on his apron. "Welcome to special barbecue session." He replied smiling. Sonya chuckled. She looked around. "Do you need any help?" She asked, but James shook his head no. "No. Just sit around and enjoy the delicious food." James replied and they both chuckled.

Suddenly, Sonya's eyes darted over James's shoulder where she saw Shane looking at her. She quickle took her eyes away from Shane's and focused on the person in front of him.

"So, when would you introduce me to your friend?" She asked James.

"Right after I get done with this." James replied and Sonya nodded.

Sonya walked over to Kara and friends. Being well aware of the fact that Shane was there too, watching her. She wanted to avoid him noticing her but now there was no use of it. Everyone said 'hi' to Sonya but Shane. Maybe he realised that she was avoid him on purpose and therefore, was finally complying with her. For whatever reason, this assumption also hurt Sonya. Knowing that he had given up just like that, without making real effort by apologising and smoothing things over.

Nonetheless, she also did not say hi to Shane and went on to talk with Kara instead.

"Listen Sonya." Kara said with seriousness in her tone. She pinched her cheeks before continuing. "I don't know what's been going on between you and Shane. Also, I don't wanna get involoved because I know that its your personal matter. However, I also don't want you to make a mistake that you might regret in future." Sonya tensed hearing Kara say that.

"What do you mean?" Sonya asked.

Kara sighed. "Give a chance to Shane." Sonya made a disapproving face and Kara shook her head. "No, not to forgive him. But, give him a chance to explain himself. Hear him for once. And then decide where you want to go from that. I know that Shane isn't a bad person but I also know that you are not in wrong for behaving the way that you're doing." Kara told Sonya. "So, just give him a chance." And then Kara left Sonya to wonder if she was right or not.

Later that day, when everyone was eating on the table after James had introduced all of his friends to Sonya, she left to go for the bathroom. On the way returning to table, she bumped into Shane. Who seemed to be going in kitchen for more barbecue sauce. Sonya saw his face and without uttering a single word walked around him to leave when Shane's voice stopped him.

"I know that you don't wanna hear this but I'm sorry for what happened. It was not my intention to hurt you." Shane said. Shane's words made Sonya stopped in her tracks and she turned. Reminded of Kara's words, Sonya decided to finally have this conversation. Even though she felt that she was not ready for this. She was not ready to forgive him.

"'It was not your intention to hurt me?'" Sonya asked. "It was clearly your intention to hurt me otherwise you would not have done the thing that you did." Sonya retorted. Feeling offended because he was apologising without even accepting the crimes.

"It was not." Shane replied.

"It was." Sonya snapped. "Otherwise how would you explain your stalking us, seeing us, making an assumption and then annoucing, no accusing, both of us to the whole world as if we were criminals. It was all clearly intentional Shane. And you denying it would not change that." Sonya told Shane, her anger fuming.

"And even if Alex and I were to be in a relationship then it would not be your buisness to annonce to anyone. In fact, it would be You breaching our privacy." Sonya barked and turned to storm out of the place. She could not believe that this guy actually thought that he did nothing wrong. And yet, had the audacity to apologise just so that she could forgive him.

"I was jealous." As soon as Sonya took a step to get out of there, she heard Shane say. "I was jealous and was not thinking clearly. I thought that exposing your relationship to everyone would make me feel better so I-"

"So, did it?" Sonya asked, clenching her teeth together. He decided to do this because he was jealous? Would it excuse his behaviour?

"Did it made you feel better?"

"It did. And to be honest, I don't think it is completly my fault. You being all this secrative with him. Of course, I would in fact anyone would think that there was something going with both of you." As soon as he said this, Shane shut up. Like he realised he messed up.

"There was something going on between us. But it was just not what you think it was." Sonya replied and with that she spun around and walked out of that place.
