Chapter Twenty-Three

Sonya and Alex both enter the Kitchen and Alex let out a big sigh. Both of them walk to the big counter where all the snacks were at and begin picking them up.

"I thought they sensed something was different. I was so nervous." Alex muttered. Both of them stopped and turned to each other.

"You know what to do. Make up some excuse to ask Kara out and alone and then I will find my way out. If everything goes well then we all will be celebrating a new relationship." Alex told Sonya.

"Yes. And you make sure that nobody follows you outside." Alex nodded his head and both of them pick up all different snacks to carry in the living room. Everything clear, they headed for the living room. Something was different. The chatter that was roaring in the living room was now had quieted down. And Sonya barely heard a voice.

Disregarding this completey, thinking it was nothing, Sonya and Alex entered the living room. However, something was off.

As soon as they entered the room, all eyes on them. This made, both Sonya and Alex stop in the enteryway. Seeing that everyone was staring at them, they both glanced at each other. This was some unusal behaviour. Alex decided to make the first move as he walked over to the table and put all the snack on the table.

"What happened guys? What's this all about?" He asked. Sonya also found herself moving to put rest of the things on the table. Adding to the question, she pointdly looked at Kara. "What's going on, Kara?"

"You both are dating?" Kara asked Sonya, taking her off guard. "What?" Sonya asked, even though she heard Kara loud and clear. Sonya looked at Alex all confused and shocked. Alex was mirroring Sonya's expression. What the hell was going on, Sonya thought.

"Are you?" Noah asked, looking at Sonya. Then he shifted his gaze to Alex. "Are you dating each other? If you are then why didn't you tell us?" He asked him. Sonya was so shocked that she could not even bring herself to answer the question.

"What? No. We are not dating each other. What made you think that?" Alex sputter out, like he could not even believe they would think that.

"I told them." Shane's voice cut through the heavy tension in the room. Both Sonya and Alex turn and looked at Shane. "I told them that both of you were dating." Shane told them, sitting up straight.

"What?" Alex asked him. Sonya was staring at Shane all flabbergasted, as if she was just slapped on her face. "What made you think that?" Alex asked.

"I saw you both. Meeting each other in park secretly. You even lied to us that day to meet her in that park." Shane explained. Alex stared at Shane for a second. It took Sonya some moments but she caught up and realised what he was talking about. He was talking about the day when Sonya had called Alex to tell him what Kara thought about him and to plan furthen ahead. From when. And suddenly, she had other realisation, Shane had followed them.

"What the hell?" Sonya yelled, aghasted by the thing she just found out.

Sonya could not believe that Shane can do something like this. After all, he always seemed like that he ... but guess she was wrong. For some reason, it hurted Sonya more than it should have. Shane's words felt like direct attack on Sonya's heart. He thought of her this way. Not only that he disrespected her by revealing something about her that was not even a secret. But he also made her seem like a cheap and disgusting person. Even though being in a relationship was normal.

But it was not.

What if it was? What if they were? What if Alex and her was in a relationship and did not want anyone else to know? Even then it would not be his secret to reveal. It would not be his buisness to shove his nose in.

"You're misunderstanding this whole thing." Alex told Shane. Then he explained further, "Sonya was helping me ask Kara out." Alex told everyone.

"What?" This one came from Liam. Everyone stared at Kara, who too looked shocked at the whole thing. Kara saw that everyone was staring at her and asked Alex, "What are you talking about?"

Alex let out a sigh. Giving Sonya an apologetic look, Alex turned to Kara. He walked up to her and knelt down. Taking her both hands in his, he stared directly into Kara's eyes.

"Kara, I like you. I always have, since the moment I first saw you." Kara's eyes widened as soon as she heard Alex's confession. Alex continued. "I wanted to ask you out but was worried that you would not to be in a relationship. That's why I asked Sonya to help me." He told her but everyone heard.

Sonya was dead quiet, taking deep breaths and not looking up to see anyone's face. She was seething from hurt and anger but she kept quiet and did not interuppt or say a word to explain further or complete the whole situation.

Kara listened to Alex explain with wide shocked eyes.

"I asked her to ask you what you think about getting in a relationship and if I have chance. And when you said that you were, both me and Sonya met in a park to form a plan where I could ask you out without making things awkward, for both you and our friends. Because you do know that all of it would have gotten awkward if everyone knew about it except you. That's why we were meeting secretly." Alex explained. Everyone turned to stare at Sonya, even Shane whose eyes were shining from regret. He completely misunderstood the situation.

After glancing at Sonya for a second, Alex turned back to Kara.

"So ... if I ask you now-"

"Yes." Kara answered even before Alex could complete his sentence. Hearing her answer, Alex stared at Kara for a second, then he suddenly jumped up and hugged her. And then both of them laughed.

Shane shot up and turned to Sonya, looking all ashamed and embarrassed. Knowing that he messed up bad. Taking a step forward, he began to apologise to Sonya. "I'm sorry, Sonya. I didn't know." But before he could complete his sentence, without uttering a single word, Sonya pushed herself of the wall she was leaning on and walked upstairs.
