Chapter 22: Chapter 22
Chapter Twenty-One
Shane
Shane was not expecting a call on Alex's phone by Sonya. Shane and his friends were out in a cafe to hang out. Alex had gone off with James to get some drinks when a phone call came on Alex's phone. He had left it behind.
Unexpectedly so, it was from Sonya. Out of all the people Shane was expecting, Sonya was not the one he was thinking when he picked up Alex's phone. What buiness could they probably have with each other? When Shane asked the reason for why she was calling Alex, Sonya dodged the question and proceeded to tell him to ask Alex to call her back?
What was going on? It was a very strange behaviour. When Alex returned and Shane told him that Sonya called, he just gave a faint nod before excusing himself and disappearing from the place to call, probably, her back. Shane could not understand the reason behind it all.
For some reason, seeing Sonya's name pop up in Alex's phone, when she never-not once, called him back, left him in shock and a little jealousy. He did not want to ponder on the reason behind his jealousy because he was sure that he already knew the reason, one which he did not want to confront.
Soon Alex returned and acted as if nothing out of the ordinary happened. Michael even asked what she called him for, but Alex just shrugged and casually said, "Nothing serious." It was serious. He knew it. Something deep inside his gut told him that something really fishy was going on.
Anyway, it was not like he could do something about it at that moment, so he tried to forget about it and focus on whatever the boys were talking to each other. However, no matter how he tried, his mind kept on drifting back to the scenerio and he found himself pondering over all the possibilities on why they must be calling each other.
Throughout the conversation, Shane did not pay attention and his eyes kept on darting on Alex and his phone. It was not possible that they must be going out together ... no. They could not possibly be going out together on like ... date. They cannot possibly be dating. Shane tried to reassure himself. There was no chance that both of them would be dating. After all, Sonya liked him.
Did she? Did Sonya liked him? Him? Really?
Shane shook his head internally. No. He did not think that Sonya could like him? Why would she? But if there was even a slight chance that she liked him. Then ... no. There was no chance.
But the point was not that. It did not matter, for now, if she liked him or not. The only think that mattered, was what was going on between Sonya and Alex. Shane forced himself to ignore his irrational thoughts. It was not his buisness if they were dating or not. It also was not his buisness to know what they were doing. So, Shane told himself to forget about it all and not to overthink about it. He could easily be reading too much into it.
Soon, all of Shane's friend were done with their drinks and snacks. All of them had made plans to go and watch a movie. All of them had come prepared.
"Let's go or else the movie will start even before we reach the theatre." Noah commented.
"Dude, we would be the first one to ever go in a movie theater, already eaten snacks." Michael said.
"You're right. Who does that?" Noah responded to Michael.
All of them stood up.
"Right. I can't come with you guys. I had to be somewhere else." Alex said, while typing something in his phone. It made Shane's ear prick up.
"What? Why?" Shane asked. Unable to help himself from asking.
Alex just shrugged his shoulder and answered, "Something came up with my mom. Sorry guys, but I had to ditch you for now." Alex said, before saluting everyone and making his way out.
Alex's answer sounded suspicious to Shane. He felt as if his vague answer hid something. Where was he actually going? Something clicked in Shane's mind and something seemed to tug at him to go after Alex. Shane, alongside his friends, walked out of the cafe and thought about something to use as an excuse.
"Sorry, guys, I had to ditch you too. I had to help in garage today. I completely forgot about it." Shane told his friends. Both Noah and Michael let out a grunting sounds.
"You too?" Noah said.
Shane shrugged nonchalantly. "Sorry guys. But, I had to leave." Shane said and both Michael and Noah rolled their eyes. And with that Shane parted his ways from his friends and headed the way he had seen Alex disappear. If he wanted to catch Alex, he needed run quickly.
Swiftly but quickly, Shane headed in the direaction, he had seen Shane disappear and went straight after him. In few moments, he caught the sight of Alex heading to the main park. Soon after Shane caught Alex's sight, he began to follow him. As expected, he was going in the complete opposite direction then from his home.
It sort of confirmed the suspicion Shane had about Alex, that he was lying. But it did not confirm, Shane's underlying fear. What if he was going to meet someone else and not the person he thought he would? Thinking and still having the hope, Shane followed Alex until he finally entered inside the park and Shane hid in the sideways. There were other people too in the park so, he was not obvious and easily seen.
From his hidden spot, Shane saw Alex walking towards someone. The person was facing the other way. Alex tapped on the person's shoulder. As soon as the person turned around, Shane's doubt vanished into thin air.
Sonya turned around to meet Alex and actually smiled at him. Watching this, Shane felt a part in his heart ache badly and he realised that he was actually hurt by seeing them together. Not wanting to continue, watching this, Shane turned around and left the park.
