Chapter 21: Chapter 21
Chapter Twenty
Sonya
Sonya made up her mind. Since, yesterday, Sonya had contemplated if she really wanted to help Alex and go ahead with this plan of his. If Kara found out the truth and think this as some sort of scheme they had set up then she might never talk to her again. This was why Sonya was having second thoughts. However, Kara was a very free spirited girl. She might just take this as a light hearted joke if she did not want to date Alex. And it was not like Alex was asking her to create up different scenerio where they planned Kara to fall in love with him. He was just asking her to ask Kara if she would like to go in a relationship. If Sonya got, even a whiff, that she was not wanting a relationship then she will back down and tell Alex to do the same.
Keeping this thought in her mind, Sonya brought up this topic when they both were cleaning dishes in the kitchen together. Sonya decided to start simple and not directly jump on the question.
"Today was a rollar-coaster." Sonya said, handing over the clean plate to Kara. Kara took it, swiped it and put it in the wrake.
"Yeah. It was. By the way, what you and Alex talked about when you went on a walk?" Kara asked.
Sonya gave this question a thought and decided to play it safe. "We did not really talk, just walked together until Shane popped up out of nowhere. It was weird." Sonya said.
Kara let out a chuckle hearing that. Taking another plate from Sonya, Kara said, "I think Shane has a crush on you. He probable went after you and Alex because he was jealous."
Sonya's heartbeat skipped a beat and she stopped in her work for a second. She did not know what that reaction was but it was weird. She should not feel like this. And what Kara said was ridiculous anyway. There was no way Shane had a crush on her. Why would he have a crush on her? It was not like they were friends or anything. In fact, they were not even on civil terms. They almost resented each other. Right? Shane can't have a crush on her. It was impossible. Sonya shook her head. She was getting distracted from her goal. This conversation was not supposed to be about her. It was supposed to be about Kara.
Sonya cleared her throat. "That is ridiculous. Forget about it." Sonya said and then continued. "What about you? Thinking about going in a relationship or something?" Sonya asked. "Well, honestly, I never understood why are you single. You're literally perfect. Haven't find the right guy yet?" Sonya questioned. Handing over more dishes.
"I wanted to stay single for a while. Just to tell myself that I can. But, I would not mind going into a relationship if the person is right." Kara told Sonya.
"Oh. Okay." Sonya replied, having gotten the answer. She thought about it for a little while and then changed the topic.
Next day in school, after classes, Sonya called Alex. To let him know what Kara had told her. The phone rang and rang until finally Alex picked up his phone.
"Hello Alex." Sonya said. For whatever reason her heart beating a little to fast. Anxiousness creeping in her entire body.
"I'm Shane. Alex is not here. He's gone to buy me and our friends drink." Shane said. Hearing Shane's voice, once again, Sonya's heart skipped a beat. Like yesterday, her reaction weirded her out. Not getting why she reacted the way she did. It annoyed her to. She was reminded of what Kara told Sonya yesterday, and she felt uneasy about this whole situation.
"What's the matter? I could tell him when he gets back." Shane replied, Their were some rustling noises from the other side of the line. Maybe, his friends were asking him to disconnect the call. Or maybe something else.
Sonya thought for a second but decided. "It's nothing. Just tell him that I called and ask him to call me back as soon as he gets back. Okay?" Sonya told Shane.
There was a brief pause on the other side then Shane's voice came. "Okay."
Sonya nodded to herself. "Okay, bye." And then she disconnected the call. When she did, she was feeling weird. Why was she reacting like that? What was happening to her? It was very unusal for to get so flustered just by talking to a person. It was weird.
Sonya shook the thought away and was about to turn and leave when her phone starts buzzing with a call.
Alex.
She picked up the phone and Alex voice came from the other side. "Hello Sonya." Sonya could hear his footsteps as he walked out of the place that he was in. Probably to avoid having his friends listen to our conversation.
"Hey. Are you away from your friends?" Sonya questioned. Hearing his footsteps coming to a halt.
"Now, I am." Alex said with a big sigh. "So. Did you ask her?" He asked Sonya.
Sonya thought about telling him right on the phone when she thought better of it. She wanted to talk to him in person. She wanted to tell him in person and clear any doubt that he might had for her. And after that, she wanted to make sure to tell him not to pursue Kara if she denies him in the first go. If she did.
"I don't wanna tell you on the phone. Can we meet outside later? For few minutes?" Sonya asked Alex.
"Okay. Fine. Let's meet on the main park. After half an hour." Alex told Sonya.
Sonya hummed. "Okay. Don't tell your friends about this. I don't want them asking questions." Sonya told Alex. Both of them agreed.
Coming to this conclusion, both of them said goodbye and disconnected the call. Sonya let out a big sigh. It wa done for now. Now she just had to wait for him to finish his practice. And she will tell him.
She hoped things go easier.
