Chapter 20: Chapter 20

Chapter Nineteen

Sonya

Both Alex and Sonya stared at the sky when suddenly, Alex spoke.

"You know why I wanted to have some alone time with you?" Alex asked making Sonya's head turn. Her focus was still on the moon so it took her some time to realise what Alex just had said.

"What?" Sonya asked, not getting it. Then she suddenly got it. "Oh. Why?" She asked, genuiny curious. She did not know that Alex had a ulterior motive for this bet. A doubt formed in her heart, on what the reason was.

"I wanted to ask you for a favor." Alex answered. Piqueing Sonya's interest even more.

'A favor? What favor could he be wanting to ask me?' Sonya thought. She never thought that he completed the task in the pool for something like this. Sonya knew that all these guys must have had something in their mind, that's why they gave this task to each other in the first place, but she did not realise that it involved an ulterior motive in wanting a favor.

"What favor?" Sonya asked him. It was so unexpected for Sonya that she could not come up with anything, in which she could do him any favor.

"I like Kara. More than friends." Alex said, surprising Sonya. He continued, "I wanted to ask for your help in determining if she likes me back or not. Or even if she sees me as a guy, who she could date." He said.

Hearing this, Sonya was shocked and surprised all at once. Among all the things she thought that he would come up with, this was not the once. It was so out of the blue that Sonya's mind went blank. She was absoutely speechless.

Sonya did not speak for more then few moments and when she finally did, she went, "What?" and then, "Why don't you ask for yourself? Directly?" Sonya asked. Still flabbergasted. THIS was the reason he wanted to spend some time with her?

Alex kicked the dirt on the road with her boots as he answered. "If I direactly ask her and my friends find out about this then it would become awkward. It will be especially embarrassing for Kara, if she doesn't like me back and all of our friends witness it, knowing that I have asked her out." Alex told Sonya. "It might become uncomfortable for her to hang out with our friend group. And I don't want that." He explained.

"That's why you want to ask me to check it out with her first. If she is ready to be in a relationship, with you? You are testing the water?" Sonya asked.

A little redness went around Alex's neck. "Yes. I don't want her to reject me head first." He almost mumbled to himself. Looking awkward as hell. Sonya saw this and felt like there might be another reason as well.

"Is that so? Or the real reason is that you don't wanna lose face in front of friends?" Sonya questioned Alex. She felt a little protectice of Kara, after all she was her friend.

Hearing this, like someone had slapped his face, Alex straightened and stared at Sonya, frowning. "That's not the real reason. Even though I do admit, I don't want to get rejected in front of my friends, I still stand with the reason I gave you. I don't want to burden Kara in any way, by having our friends witness our whole interaction." He said, his voice a little colder then before. Then with tensed shoulder, he continued, "If you don't wanna help her then just-"

"I will help you." Sonya interrupted Alex. Feeling a little bad, having raised such question even though she was just looking out for her friend. "I was just looking out for her." Sonya said. "If she wants to get in a relationship with you willingly, then it will only make me happy." Sonya told Alex. She meant what she said. If a little help from her get her friend get into a relationship with Alex then there was no reason for her to deny it. She just wanted her friend to be happy. And Alex did not seem like a bad guy.

Hearing this answer from Sonya, Alex seemed to relax a little. His face lit up a little. It was what he was expecting him anyway. Sonya just hoped that Kara did not see this as some sort of set up. She genuiny wanted Kara to be happy.

Alex and Sonya both were alerted as the sound of someone's footsteps started coming there way. The sound got louder and louder with every step and suddenly the head of Shane appeared in front of them. Both of them relaxed after seeing who it was.

In few strides, Shane walked up to Alex's side and came to a halt. "What are you doing here?" Sonya asked Shane. When she left the so called party, she did expect him to come after her but not now. When he did not follow after she left, it made her feel bad for no reason. Maybe, she was being overly sentimental for no reason.

"I just wanted to make sure that none of you were fighting." Shane answered in a playful tone, making Sonya roll her eyes at him. Both Alex and Sonya exchanged looks and Sonya raised an eyebrow.

She knew this was a lame excuse from his side but still she did not say anything. She had an idea that why he was really here. And it was sure as hell, not because he thought that she and Alex were fighting. It might have been a feeling of being left out but there was another thing too. Sonya could not help but notice a hint of jealousy in him. Whenever he looked at Alex, Sonya saw that his gaze changed to an almost unnoticable amount. And the excuse he made? It felt forced, even though he tried to make it playful. It was very obvious.

"Whatever. Let's go back." Alex commented and all three of them moved to head back to home.
