Chapter 94: Chapter 94

CHAPTER 94

DINAH’S POV

“Tessa, I don’t understand what’s going on anymore.” Dinah muttered, lighting up a cigar stick and passing the box to her friend, who willingly collected it.

“Oh come up Dinah…” Tessa began puffing on her already lit up cigarette stick, “Why are you so worked up about this? Are you just going to give up after everything you’ve done? Everything we’ve been through together?”

Dinah just rolled her eyes, her hands going to her forehead as she heaved out loud in frustration.

“I don’t know what to think again Tessa. I mean after all I did, I still don’t have Christian in my grasp. I mean he told me prop and plain that he’s leaving this town.”

“To where again?” Tessa asked, and letting out a hiss Dinah replied, “Seattle. Talks about him getting a new job there and even when we talked, he freaking brought talks about that bitch into the conversation. Despite the fact that they’ve broken up, apparently he still has feelings for her and it hurts me so much. I mean, why can’t he just stop thinking about her and… arghhhh.” Dinah paused letting out a frustrated scream, and ruffled her hair angrily.

“Calm down Dinah.”

“You want me to calm down? I’ve lost it all Tessa. I don’t have Christian, and all the fantasies I had about the both of us has just gone in the mud. Worse still Mikey is not doing anything to make me feel any better. He doesn’t even notice the state I’m in, and all he cares about is getting a fuck from me, after he’s drunk, slimy and smelly. The only reason I’m here is because he’s providing shelter and food for me, if not.. I literally have nowhere to go and no cash with me anymore. I used every single money with me to execute this plan, and now I’m… Oh jeez.” She spat out after a while, a scoff escaping her lips, as she looked up at the ceiling.

Feeling Tessa’s hands on her shoulders, Dinah quickly shrugged it off. The last thing she needed was a touch of any kind, and irrespective of whomever was doing the touching she just didn’t need any bodily contact.

She was feeling irritated all over, and nothing seemed to be helping at the moment.

“Well…” Tessa began after a moment of silence, shoulders shrugging too as she continued, “Well, at least we got to deal with Sara and the other bitch. You know whatever affects Sara, would affect her cohort. I also heard from someone that Sara was just discharged from the hospital again some days back. Seems she had another sick bout.”

“Whatever, pfft…” Dinah chimed in, looking all too unbothered at the same time.

“I also plan on going to the shelter tomorrow though. I need some fresh bouts of gossips and you know it’s been long since we yunno…” Tessa trailed of, winking at Dinah and laughing sporadically at the same time.

“Just cut the crap. I don’t want to listen to anymore talks about that unfortunate bitch anymore. Hearing her name alone irks me so badly and…”

The shrill sound of a phone ringing cut Dinah off her half baked anger raged speech, and glancing around she sullenly dragged her phone closely towards her, looking at the screen hastily.

Just who would be calling her now. She wasn’t expecting any call, and Mikey rarely called so who was… “The shelter?”

“Huh?” Ariel queried, the second she let out a statement and Dinah could only mutter softly before swiping the answer button to receive the call, “Mrs Patrick is calling me.”

The shock on Tessa’s face, mirrored hers and as Dinah gently placed the phone in her ear she mustered all the courage she had, and said softly, “Hello, Dinah speaking?”

As she waited for Mrs Patrick to respond, the wheel in Dinah’s head started to spin as she began to wonder why the head matron of the shelter would be calling her after all these days, and all of a sudden too.

The first thing she thought of was the incident at the carnival, and that the shelter had probably uncovered the full details of what transpired that day. The harm they’d caused Sara amongst other things, but at the same time Dinah shook the foreboding thought out of her head.

There was no way the matron or anybody at the shelter could know about that disastrous incident, because she had made sure to pay off every single cops and detective involved in the case.

She had gone through so many lengths making sure her cover wouldn’t blow up, and apart from paying the organizers off, she had also promised them more goodies once every thing died now.

She had wasted lots of money, because of that bitch and now she didn’t even have what she had suffered for.

Remembering that, Dinah felt another surge of anger and hurt course through her, but she tried to cool her temper and listen to whatever Mrs Patrick had to say to her.

“Hello Dinah, how are you doing?“ The soft cheery voice of the head matron came through the speakers, and clearing her throat for the umpteenth time however, Dinah replied, “I’m doing good Ma’am. I’m surprised you called, and how did you get my number too. It seems strange and…”

She quickly paused, trailing off as she realized that she’d just said too much and clamping her mouth shut, Dinah closed her eyes wishing that the woman wouldn’t question why she’d talked like that.

Tessa was staring at her, so many questions in her own eyes, but Dinah could say nothing yet at all.

Instead of Mrs Patrick being harsh like Dinah had expected, she was surprised when the matron responded with an otherwise soft and still cheery voice, laughing also as she said, “Calm down Dinah. I have your number in the shelter’s registry and if you recall you did write it there.”

“Oh…” Dinah muttered, as that was the only thing she could say.

Nevertheless, the matron still hadn’t told her why she had called, and now Dinah was jumping from lap to lap, her thighs trembling at the same time on the mattress.

“I know you’re wondering why I called right?“ Mrs Patrick asked and Dinah replied all to eagerly, “Yes, yes.”

“Well, what I have to say is not something that should be discussed over the phone. It’s very urgent, and something that you should know as soon as possible. Can you make out time to come to the shelter tomorrow or next?”

Dread filled Dinah’s whole body as she heard the matron’s statement.

She was clearly being summoned.

Ever since the matron had started speaking to her with a cheery voice, Dinah had tried diffusing the tension she was feeling, but she just couldn’t and instead it burbled up angrily, increasing at the same time.

“Dinah? Did you hear what I just said?” Mrs Patrick asked and Dinah just nodded without saying a word.

“Are you there miss? Dinah?” She called out, and Dinah just heaved down calming breaths and said slowly, “Sorry ma’am, I got lost in my thoughts. I… yes I heard you, and I’ll come to the shelter tomorrow or next like you asked. Thanks and see you soon.”

She didn’t even wait for a response, as she cut off the call hanging up instantly, whilst turning to face Tessa, who had a questioning look on her face, obviously wanting to know the deets.

“What happened Dinah?” She asked all to sharply but Dinah didn’t reply only staring at her friend, as different thoughts ran through her head.

This same woman had sent her out of the shelter harshly without even looking back, and now… She was being summoned by the same person?

No way!

“Dinah, what did Mrs Patrick say? What did she want?” Tessa asked, sounding frantic but Dinah still gave no response, just looking dazed.

She couldn’t say a thing, as she only began to wonder.

What did Mrs Patrick want from her after all these days? What did this mean? Why the heck was she being summoned?

She had so many questions, and Lord knows she longed to get every single answer to them.
