Chapter 93: Chapter 93

CHAPTER 93

SARA

Hastily handing over the pregnancy test results to Christian, Sara placed a hand over there lips, trying to stop the sob that threatened to spill out from within.

Seconds passed, minutes too, with the silence between then growing in folds, and she could only watch as he stared down at the papers, his hands visibly shaking furiously.

She waited for him to say something, and at long last when nothing seemed to be forthcoming she broke the dreaded quietude.

“Won’t you say something?” She began with a sniffle, but he said nothing.

Shoulders dropping further, Sara continued, “I know the past few days have been hell for both of us. I mean, you seeing these… I don’t even know what to call it now and…”

“You keep saying you don’t know what to call them Sara, but I’ll help you madame. They are nudes miss, fucking nudes. Pictures of another man fucking you. Pictures of a man, fucking what I called mine. Look at your facial expression in those pictures Sara, you freaking enjoyed every single thing he did to you and I’ll say it over and over again. You were in ecstasy and you indulged in every aspect of pleasure he gave you. You…”

“Christian… I…” She let out a hiss, cutting his speech off as she trembled slightly unable to hold back the sobs and tears spilling down her eyes, “I don’t want to talk about the nudes for now. I… I just wanted to explain why I’ve been giving you attitudes these last few days. I kept on turning down your offers and all, and even when you asked me not to go the carnival, I disobeyed and went. I just want to explain it all.”

“Oh yeah! Explain it. Cook up some well thought out lie again and tell me. I’m your piece of shit, the man you treat like garbage so doesn’t worry I’ll take it. Go ahead, Sara just say whatever you like. I’m listening.”

His words were hurting, his voice sounding so harsh and he wasn’t even trying to see reasons with her at all.

How would she explain that she had been set up? How would she let him know that she had almost been sexually assaulted, and that the photos had been staged obviously?

Who else would have… No she wouldn’t think about who did this to her for now. Instead she would try her best now to tell him some parts of her truth, and explain the reasons why she’d been behaving uncouth towards him these last few days.

“Christian, you’re not trash! You’re the man I love, and I… I’m so sorry about this whole thing but you have to believe me when I say I don’t know a thing. I mean, the reasons why I’ve been acting nonchalant and negligent towards you and our relationship was because of my pregnancy hormones.” Clutching her belly she carried on, “Please just believe me when I tell you I haven’t been cheating on you Christian, please I beg you.”

“Oh please! Cut that crap of pregnancy hormones and whatever. How far gone are you, to be exhibiting such symptoms. Okay, all those while you’ve been giving me mixed signals about not wanting to go to Seattle with me, were you pregnant then?” Christian barked out, and this time his questions cut deep through that Sara could barely say a thing in response, as she continued weeping.

“You see, you have absolutely nothing to say Sara. You’re a liar and a cheat!”

The nurse did confirm that the pregnancy could make her grumpy, and reacting to situations a bit too differently than she normally would have, but with all these accusations that Christian seemed to be throwing at her, she couldn’t even think straight at all.

At some point he was right, but then again…

“So…” She croaked, air filling her lungs as she blurted out the words that pierced through her heart, “So Christian, are you willing to throw all what we had, just because of this? Because of a nude picture?”

“You don’t get it Sara, you just don’t! This is not just a nude picture. This is proof of you cheating on me! Don’t you see it?”

“Damn it! I didn’t cheat on you! I don’t cheat Christian and I’m also carrying your child. I’m pregnant for you, can’t you just…”

“I don’t even want to go to that pregnancy topic right now, but since you’re being insistent then I would tell you what I think about that thing you are carrying in your belly.”

“You call our child a thing?” She asked shocked, her eyes wide and her heart hurting at his words and intonations.

“I… Look, Sara that child can’t be mine. I’ve always used protection with you, and when when I didn’t I always pulled out.”

“What are you saying?” Sara asked, stunned to say the least and taking a step towards him but he just took another back as he continued with his speech, “You heard me right Sara. Also it’s been weeks since I last touched you, and considering what is going on now, I can blatantly tell you that the kid isn’t mine. I mean, someone slept or has been sleeping with you and…”

“How many times will I tell you that I’ve not cheated on you before Christian!” Sara half yelled, her voice breaking, “I don’t know who the boy in the picture with me is. I have no idea of what happened that night, and those photos were staged. Someone is trying to break us up, can’t you see it.”

“Now you’re just being ridiculous!” He spat out, “I don’t care what you’re on, or how far gone you are but I want you to know that I’m not the father of that kid. You can go ask whomever you think staged the photos like you said and.. Heck!” He stopped talking, raking his hands through his hair while she watched.

“I… I know I’ve always wanted kids with you, but not this early. I mean, I’m just certain that the babe in there is not mine. I’ve always used protection and I’m always careful. I can’t shoulder the responsibility of a kid that might not even be mine and…”

Sara stood dumbstruck, jaw dropping open as she listened to Christian go on and on, denying the pregnancy.

Hands on her belly, Sara knew her world was falling apart in front of her and she couldn’t even stop it from crumbling further.

“So the kid is not yours? And I cheated on you right?” She asked softly, after he was done talking, and he nodded slowly.

“I’m sorry Sara, but I know what to say anymore. I don’t know what to believe. You should also know that we’re done. I’ve moved on already, and I’m preparing to leave this damned city. I saw those photos of you, and I came to know the truth. It’s so sad how every single thing I’ve planned with you seems to be going to…”

“What… what are you… saying?” Sara stuttered, tears flowing down her cheeks, as she took a step forwards stretching out her hands as if to touch him, but he took another step back.

“Goodbye Sara. Goodbye and Good-luck!”

That said, Christian took his steps further backwards and opening the door he walked in and slammed the furniture harshly on her face, leaving no space for her to even say a thing.

Instantly she began to yell. Feeling some kind of strength surging through her, she began banging at the door, begging him to open but he didn’t.

Her phone was ringing in her pocket, and still sobbing profusely, all her strength leaving her, she sagged her shoulders and slowly brought the cell phone out.

Seeing that it was Ariel, she swiped the answer button and shakily placed the phone on her ear.

“Ariel… Ariel… Christian… He broke up with me. He’s denying that the pregnancy is not his and there are some… some…” She stammered again, hiccuping at the same time, while staring at the nude photos on the floor.

“Sara, can you please calm down. Daniel told me everything and I understand it all. Please just…”

“How do I calm down Ariel? How do I?” She half yelled adding, “My life is over. Everything is freaking over, and I can feel myself tearing apart. I… I…”

“Sara we’ll solve this. We’ll talk to Christian, and make him see the truth.”

“What truth? I talked to him, and I begged him but he didn’t listen. What makes you think he would listen to you huh? What?”

“Sara, stop sobbing. You’re hurting me and I can’t bear to hear you cry. Just get a taxi and come back to the shelter please. We are waiting for you.”

“I… I…”

“Get a taxi and come home Sara. We can make this right, but you should just come home first.” Ariel begged and sniffing Sara mumbled some incorrigible response before hanging up the phone.

Swiveling around, she bent down slowly and packed the nude photo cards and the pregnancy test which had been strewn on the floor.

Despite wishing that she could stay here and continue to plead, maybe he would answer her, Sara also knew that Ariel was right and she had to go home.

Not just go get any solutions to this problem, she also needed to rest as her whole body ached painfully.

Taking slow steps away from Christian’s apartment, each movement felt like she was dragging the whole weight of the world with her legs, and there was other word to describe how she was feeling.

Before her eyes, her whole world had crumbled, and she was still battling with the rejection of Christian.

He strongly believed that the child was not his, without even checking out and reading through the hospital test.

It hurt, so freaking much but the deed had been done, and the words had been said.

Quickly hailing a taxi, her feets propelling inside the cab, she sharply told the driver the address of where she was going too, and as the car’s ignition started, Sara allowed her head to fall on the car’s headrest as she began to sob profusely all over again.

She was doomed! Doomed and alone!

…….

CHRISTIAN

“Arghhhhh…” Christian yelled out, his fists balled up as he kicked at the filled up clothing bag in front of him.

He was so angry, filled with pent up rage, and every single time he replayed the harsh words he’d just said to Sara again, the fury increased.

Worse still, the underlying thought that she was really saying the truth, and had no idea what just have happened that night gnawed at him, threatening to tear him apart, but then those freaking nude pictures splashed all over his head, and he would loose it all again.

He wouldn’t believe her, he kept on telling himself that, but there was this voice in his head that whispered otherwise to him.

He had just made the worst decision of his life and…

“Arghhhhh…” He let out again, punching the bag, and hitting over and over again venting his frustrations on the poor sack.

He was was still hitting the bag, and screaming at the top of lungs that he had no idea when his mother gently walked into his room, her heart squeezing at the sight of him in such a fit.

It was not until she said something, calling out to him then did he finally stop.

“Son what’s going on?”

Christian froze immediately, his hands flailing and hanging in the air, he slowly turned to face his mother, who had a stricken look on her face.

“You’re back from the market?” He asked slowly, but she didn’t reply, instead coming towards him.

“What is wrong son?” She asked again, pulling him into a hug as she started to stroke his back gently, and this was all it took for him to break down.

Tears erupting from his eyes, Christian dropped his lips open, trying to say something, but nothing was forthcoming.

“Is this because of Sara? I saw her entering a taxi, and I tried calling out to her but she didn’t hear me and…”

“I broke up with her mother. I broke up with Sara.” He blurted out, interrupting her questions as he continued to sob on her arms.

“You broke up with her? After all the advice I gave you? Did you talk to her? Did she explain the pictures and…”

“No mother!” He cut in heartbreakingly, “She said nothing. She didn’t deny or accept the fact that she was cheating on me. Or maybe she denied it, but then she didn’t give any reasonable explanation whatsoever. She claimed she didn’t even know the man in the picture, and honestly mother, I just couldn’t believe her. She didn’t look like she was saying the truth, and she also just kept begging me to take her back and then she told me…”

“She told you what?”

Christian couldn’t bring himself to say further.

She was pregnant. He had seen the tests, he had seen how far gone she was, but yet he had vehemently denied having anything to do with that.

He was always careful, and he couldn’t even remember the last time they’d had sex. That night under the trees after he’d apologized? Or when? He just couldn’t remember and…

“Son? You were saying something?”

“I… Mother, I just want to leave this fucking city. I just want to get out from here and leave all these behind. I’m tired mother, I’m so tired!” He bawled out, fresh tears spilling down his cheeks.

“Are you sure about this decision of yours son?

Are you sure you can just leave…”

“I’m so sure mother. Nothing is holding me back.” He lied through his teeth, trying his best not to think about Sara, or a certain woman who held the key to his heart.

He had never fallen so deeply in love like this, and just because of some nude photos he was willing to throw it all away.

He didn’t care! He wouldn’t care.

“I don’t care mother, I just don’t. I just want to be fine and that’s all.”

“You’ll be fine son. You’ll leave, start a new life and everything will be fine, I assure you.”

“Oh mother…” He drawled, burying his face as he continued to cry bitterly, his heart shredding into pieces.

All the while, flashes of Sara staring solemnly at him kept on recurring in his head but he blocked any thought of her out.

Over and over his mother kept reassuring him that all would be well, and everything would be fine, and honestly Christian just hoped things would work out for his good.

He only had to hope.
