Chapter 84: Chapter 84

CHAPTER 84

SARA

“Hey Sara…”

Sara whirled around, wanting to see who was calling. She had a cup of orange juice in hand, a basket of popcorn in another, filling her belly up as she watched the activities going on.

She was tired of jumping about, wanting to rest a bit after dancing her energy off at the mini club room some time ago, with Ariel who surprisingly was not with her now.

A random guy from nowhere had come up to them some time earlier too, picking up a liking with Ariel and the both of them had wandered to God knows where. A bit strange since Ariel was exclusive to Daniel, and their relationship was going great, but well she could afford to keep this small secret since she trusted Ariel not to do something bad, Sara had thought laughing the idea off.

And now that she was alone, hearing that familiar voice call out her name, had her shoulders upping as she turned around to see who it was.

“Tessa?” She murmured lowly, watching her frenemy bounce up to her. Appraising her from head to toe, Sara noticed that she looked somewhat strange.

Her eyes even from afar were red and swollen, and holding two cups, she was walking rather briskly towards Sara specifically, a small smile on her face.

Tessa? Smiling at her? This was like the joke of the century, and Sara stopped the bubbling laughter within her from rising up.

Tessa rarely smiled at her, nor looked her way, and since she was one of Dinah’s minions, Sara knew that she was outrightly despised by the both of them. So what was she doing here? Sara asked herself, watching Tessa come to a stop in front of her, the small smile on her sullen face still plastered.

“Hey.” Sara greeted curtly, raising her brows and Tessa must have noticed her suspicious look, because she immediately cleared up the tense atmosphere and bad energy radiating around by saying, “Hello Sara, I’m not here to bite.”

What a way to start? Sara thought to herself, saying nothing wanting her to go on and that she did.

“You must be wondering why I’m here?” Tessa began sniffling, and added, “Well, whatever you are thinking, it’s the opposite. I’m not here to cause any harm.”

“Huh?” Sara huffed and before she could say Abj thing, Tessa interjected, “You just also be wondering why I’m not with Dinah my friend.” She said, and this time Sara’s hunches instantly went up.

Yes, she had wanted to ask this question… The words at the tip of her tongue and well Tessa had said them right out of her. “We are no more friends.” Tessa deadpanned, dropping the bombshell talk that had Sara looking back at her, like she was crazy.

No way! Tessa and Dinah no more friends. It had been days since she saw Dinah, since she was no more at the shelter, but she saw Tessa almost everyday and she always had that haughty look on her. Sara could even swear that yesterday, while at the cafeteria hall, Tessa had seemingly gossiped about her with a group of her friends, but she kept this info to herself since she really didn’t have any fact.

So why the sudden change of positions? What was the meaning of this? Sara thought to herself.

“I can see you are enjoying yourself.” Tessa said agree some time, adding, “Did you come alone?”

“Not really, I came with Ariel. She went off somewhere but she would soon be back hopefully.”

“Oh okay, that’s cool. Here, have some drink.” Tessa said, handing her the cup she had been holding, but Sara immediately refused, raising her filled up hands but she pestered on. “You would love this tropical mix. I was standing alone, since I came here with no one and from a distance I saw you were standing alone. I specially got it for you, so you have to drink it pretty please.”

When the words were stringed like that, Sara’s conscience couldn’t bid her to say no, and gulping the contents of the remaining orange juice, she threw the plastic cup away and accepted Tessa’s drink. Staring down, the liquid looked like an apple juice if she was correct and it smelt like one too. She took a taste, and it was sweet, but it burned a bit at the back of her throat.

Apart from that the drink was clear, and feeling a little bit lightheaded Sara let out a small giggle.

“Do you like the drink?” Tessa asked and Sara nodded. Clearing her throat, she opened her mouth and then blurted out the question she had been meaning to ask still, “What happened between you and Dinah? I don’t understand. Seems the distance affected you both right…”

She hadn’t finished talking, when suddenly Tessa broke into tears, the liquid streaming down her face uncontrollably, her eyes bright red she began to stammer, trying to gather her speech but it was proving increasingly difficult.

“Oh my goodness…” Sara felt a twinge of guilt, and all doubts she had earlier about Tessa’s strange appearance instantly disappeared. From the look of things, it was evident that a big fight must have occurred, for Tessa to be this way.

“Oh my…” Sara stuttered again, “I’m so sorry Tessa.” She said again, taking a step forward as she wrapped her arms around Tessa trying her best to console her.

“It’s fine… it’s fine.” Tessa sniffed, “It just hurt. After everything I did for her! All the trouble I got into for that bitch, she decided to treat me this way. No wonder Miranda left, she foresaw all this. She left while I foolishly stayed, now I’m paying for it.”

“No, don’t talk like that Tess.” Sara said softly, stroking her back as she offered assuring words of solace to her.

“Thank you so much Sara. Thank you, thank you.” Tessa wiped the tears from her eyes, with the back of her hands, “Do you want to know the reason why we fought?”

“Yes, I did ask you. It seem so unlikely but then what happened.”

Sniffing, Tessa grabbed Sara’s hands and looking left and right, she mumbled in a broken voice, “Let’s go to a more quiet place. I don’t want to talk about her here. She knows people here too, someone might eavesdrop. I don’t want that.”

Sara was sure she didn’t hear everything Tessa said, as she was still feeling lightheaded and dizzy too, but she just nodded, smiling as she was being dragged to Lord knows where.

While they walked, Tessa didn’t say anything about fighting with Dinah, or what must have propelled her to speak about her friend in this manner.

The only thing Sara kept on hearing was, “It hurst so much. The betrayal hurt to so much.”

Unbeknownst to her, she was being dragged to her ruin.
