Chapter 65: Chapter 65

CHAPTER 65

CHRISTIAN

Flowers in hand, dressed impeccably for his girl, Christian walked steadily towards the shelter’s large gate.

Today finally he was going to tell Sara the good news, of her leave from the shelter.

He was going to reveal Mrs Patrick’s good news to her, and he would also proceed to tell about everything they needed to do before she could finally be free.

That same day, he remembered, he had told his mom that he had gotten the call from the head matron, and she had shared in his joy.

She had been so happy, and his siblings too and Christian was so happy that his family extended the love they had for him down to Sara.

Just what more could he ask for?

He was still thinking to himself, rambling and soliloquizing when he bumped into something or someone rather, who was standing and waving her hands at him.

“Woah…” Christian exclaimed loudly, the grip on the leather bag which contained the flowers he had hidden, tight and swearing he looked at whoever was on his way.

“Ariel! What are you doing?” He questioned her, and began looking around to see if Sara was with her, or as actually following her, because the two friends were practically inseparable.

“Nothing… I saw you from afar while coming outside. I’m actually on my way to the supermarket for my shift.” Ariel answered with a smile, and as she mentioned the supermarket he winked knowingly at her.

“Oh you’re on your way to meet the love of your life, Daniel?” He asked, and she waved him off, blushing profusely and not saying anything, and Christian just laughed.

He could already see her reaction, and he knew that what he had said was the truth or close to the truth and he smiled.

He was really happy for them, for Daniel actually because he knew how his best friend had struggled and done so many things possible just to get her to date him.

Now they were dating, and it was like one of the best things to ever happen to someone close to him.

“You were rambling? I could read your lips and I noticed you were talking to yourself, so what’s up?”

Had it been that obvious?

Now he felt really embarrassed, despite not saying anything, and shrugging his shoulders he just shook his head.

“Come on, talk to me?” She pestered, elbowing him and Christian gave up.

Heck! He even needed to discuss with her, as she was close to Sara, and he needed her opinion in times like this.

“Come…” He said pausing and grabbing her hands, he began to drag her towards an unknown spot.

“Where are you taking me too?” She asked him, but he said nothing instead dragging her to a safe spot under a nearby tree that he immediately spotted, and then he said, “Here we are… I need your advice on something, and can I get it?” He asked.

She raised her brows at him suspiciously, and he just chuckled and then said, “Don’t give me that look just yet. Listen to what I have to say first.”

“Okay, okay, bring it on then…” She said to him, sitting on the bare grassy ground and joining her, Christian started spilling out most of his thoughts about his leave with Ariel, and she did listen dutifully.

ARIEL’S POV

Ariel listened as Sara’s boyfriend kept on talking.

“Are you done?” She asked him, some minutes into the silence as he stopped and she watched him sigh, and slowly he nodded.

She knew that he still had a lot of things to say to her, but he was refraining from saying them, and in a situation like this she just didn’t want to force him to say anything.

“Hmmn… This is a whole lot to digest in honestly.” She began to say, telling him her honest thoughts and truthfully too.

“Yeah I know, I know.” He said, agreeing with her mad she smiled gently at him before continuing, “Well, certainly what you’re about to tell her is indeed good news actually. If not for me, but for you and her too then.”

“What do you say so? You’re not happy about our leave? You’re not happy I’m taking her along with me? You’re not happy that…” He started to ask her in a rush, and smiling at him, she motioned with her hands at him to calm down.

He just wouldn’t understand, really.

She didn’t even want to imagine living a life without Sara, and even though they would visit occasionally, Ariel had this deep fear in her that Sara would meet someone else, and they might even bond well, making her loose her connection with her best friend.

She didn’t even want to tell him, that Sara had her won fears about leaving, as her friend had accidentally spilled the news to her done weeks back.

She was scared of their friendship, and again she was scared of the fact that Sara would still not…

No she was going to stay positive… She thought to herself discarding her thoughts, and laying them at bay.

“Hey… Say something to me.” Christian said, snapping her mind back, and she replied, “I am here Christian and I’ll definitely talk to you. Just be calm okay.”

“Okay, okay, I’m calm.” He said with a sigh and Ariel just clapped her hands dramatically.

Wanting to lighten the tense mood to brighten her up after what she had just heard, and thought she asked him, “Are you going for the upcoming teens festival or carnival rather?”

“Emm… I got tickets, but I’m not sure. I’ll be packing up for my leave then, and I’ll even want Sara to be with me then. We could have some time together when everyone leaves the house.”

“Hmmmmn…” Ariel said laughing and then said again, “Well, are you sure Sara’s going to be there? She’s definitely excited about this festival.”

“Well, I’m not going and she had better not go to!” Christian said and huffed, as he added, “She ought to be with me.”

“Whatever… What’s in that bag you’re holding though?” She asked him, and he opened it for her.

Immediately the scents of fresh red roses filled the air, and without even asking she knew that he had brought them for Sara.

“Awww…” She swooned, her dimples deepening as she looked at him dreamily.

He was such a hopeless romantic, and Ariel was really happy that her friend Sara had gotten herself this kind of man.

She was so happy for her.

“You wanted giving this to her right?” Ariel asked and nodding he said again, “Yes and also tell her the good news.”

“Ermmm… Do you know something?”

“I don’t know anything, until you tell me…” He said sarcastically and she burst out laughing.

“Okay, well… Do you know that Sara’s birthday is coming up in some days or let me say probably two to three weeks. Do you know?”

“Wait what? Are you serious?” He asked and she nodded and the said, “On February 29 actually.”

“Fuck! That’s a leap year. She didn’t say anything about it. I have no fucking idea.”

“Yeah, and it’s a leap year, very rare and this year is one. She doesn’t take it serious you know, as she never celebrates it. I’m the one that takes it upon myself every 28, to take her out.”

She could see frown lines on Christian and then she started to say something but he he cut in, by asking her, “Where are you taking this thing too actually? Because I can see that you’re not yet done and meanwhile that rule of hers, is going to end this year. I’m going to celebrate it for her!” “That’s the spirit man!” Ariel said clapping her hands and then she whispered something into his ears.

“Huh? You think that would be a nice way of breaking this news to her?” He asked and Ariel nodded.

“Wow! Okay I think it will too. Also since you don’t want me to visit her today, what would happen to the flowers?”

“I’ll give it to her…” She replied, and dragged the bag from his hand, ones which he let go off reluctantly.

He didn’t want to go back home without seeing her, bit it seems there was other plans for him.

“This will work out right?” He asked again needing her reassurance, and squeezing one of his palms she said to him, “It will Christian. I am positively sure of that.”
