Chapter 45: Chapter 45

After Cane and Ai had taken some time to catch their breath, it was time for them to get moving again.

Cane decided to restart his crashed stream before they continued to get more information about what was happening outside.

A lot of people were on standby when he restarted his stream, and Cane felt his head ache as he looked at all the messages in front of him. The screen was moving so fast that he could barely keep up with it.

"You all need to slow down a little or I won’t be able to read anything. Anyway, I have restarted the stream to tell you all that I am fine now. What happened was a temporary error...I hope."

[HaremKingXXX: You better hope it was an error. We all thought you were done for.]

[Shura: You looked like you were seconds away from making history as being the first player to die from VR system failure. Anyway, you should get a doctor’s visit scheduled.]

[WinWinWin: Why do all these scuffs happen to you? Are you haunted by some kind of ghost?]

Cane had a vague idea of why he had gone through what he did. It was most likely because of his glitched account. But there was no way to verify anything at the moment.

Cane felt a little touched by the message of his fans. Even if they tried to get him in trouble all the time, they also cared enough to look after him.

"I am fine, so you don’t have to worry about it. The system told me that I cannot log out until I finish this quest. So I think I will continue. You all can watch and keep an eye on me. And if anything happens, go and call for help."

[HaremKingXXX: Go. We will keep an eye out for things.]

Cane looked away from the system and headed toward Ai. She looked up as soon as she noticed Cane approaching her.

"Are you done with your preparations? Should we get going now?"

She asked, her eyes looking Cane over once. The sharpness in her eyes was new, and Cane felt a little tense. Ai noticed that and quickly corrected her expression to appear like her usual self.

Cane also relaxed at that, but he did not put his guard down.

The second room they entered was vast and empty. It had nothing in it except a grave right in the middle.

"A grave? Is this a graveyard? Places like these are usually covered in traps. Ai, stay close to me."

Cane called out to her and Ai flinched before she walked over to his side. She almost tripped twice but caught herself every time.

However, just because she reached Cane, she felt something sink under her foot. And when she looked up, her expression paled.

Cane followed her line of sight, only to pale as well.

Cane yelled, but Ai was moving even before he had told her to. Cane grabbed her wrist to make her go faster as he ran toward the exit.

The ceiling, which had barely been holding on, finally collapsed under the weight of all that water, and a huge amount of water flooded the room.

"W-We won’t make it to the door...what are you doing?"

Ai asked as she felt Cane turn her around. The exit was too far away to reach normally, but with some assistance from Cane, Ai would be able to make it across...or so Cane hoped.

"I will throw you toward the exit. Make sure you open the door. Or we will both drown here. Here, take the bomb."

Cane warned her, and Ai nodded. Her body went soaring through the air as Cane used all of his strength to throw her.

She reached the door and looked down at her hand where Cane had stuffed a small bomb. It felt powerful in her grip, and she immediately left the bomb at the door before taking a few steps back.

"It’s in place. You can detonate it now."

That was the signal Cane had been waiting for. As soon as he was sure that Ai was far enough, he pulled the trigger for the bomb.

Unlike his cheap everyday bombs, the current one was special and had much more power. It was also ten times more expensive. But most importantly, it did the trick, and the door fell open just as the water touched Cane’s back.

He was blasted out of the room by water, and Ai was not spared either. Cane tried to swim over to her before he grabbed Ai in his grasp and turned around.

His feet touched the wall, and he used it to propel himself away from a certain crash.

Finally, the water slowed down and Cane’s feet touched the ground. He coughed to get any excess water out of his breathing passage.

Ai coughed as well to clear her lungs before she gave Cane a grateful look. Cane helped her back on her feet before he looked around the new room he had found himself in.

He was not the only one struggling to stand up. Ai was having just as hard of a time as he was. She was out of breath, and the water seemed to have damaged her lungs and vocal cords.

"T-That scared me. Cane, are you alright? You are not hurt, right?"

Ai asked as she walked over to him. Her concerned eyes looked at him and he nodded back at her.

"I am fine. But where have we ended up at? Let me see..."

Cane stood up and took a look around, only to see glowing symbols all over. There was no exit in the room, only a way to enter...which likely meant that there was a hidden switch somewhere to head forward.
