Chapter 46: Chapter 46
Unlike the room before, this room was full of light but without any light source in sight. There were not many openings either to let light filter through.
"Where are we supposed to go from here?" Tʜe source of this ᴄontent ɪs novel{f}ire.net
Ai asked as she looked around as well. But trying to find a secret exit here was like trying to find a needle in a haystack.
So Cane decided to take the easy way around. He opened the system to check for more information.
The system screen was blue once more, and chat messages were going too fast to keep up with.
[Chex_Glem: Hi chat.]
[WinWinWin: Did you softlock yourself? How did you even do that?]
[FamiliarFace: How else could he have softlocked himself? Of course, it’s because he’s bad at the game. He should head back and reset the room...or something.]
The chat was as loud and obnoxious as ever, but Cane turned them aside to check on the system tab for more information.
[Checking for more information. Due to your role as Operator, you have gained access to forbidden knowledge.]
[Generating current map...checking for key location...]
The map appeared on the system screen, and Cane followed it to find the only brick in the room that was removable.
[Bugcontrol: What sorcery is this? How did you get this lucky? Did you sell your first born or something?]
"I am sorry to burst your bubble, but I am nowhere old enough to have a kid."
[KuraKura: Holy-! Is that a Streamer Lord drop? Does that mean you are a minor?]
"Just because I think I am not old enough to have a kid does not mean I am a minor. I am not going to give you all any more information or you will try to doxx me."
Cane quickly pulled himself back from that conversation before he gave out any more information than he needed to.
People online were ruthless, and there were too many incidents of people getting attacked by their fans to make him feel comfortable giving up too much information.
He had already had to change locations twice because of fans, so he was not going to give them any more information to come after him.
So he turned away from the system
"Have you found anything yet?"
Cane asked, and Ai shook her head.
"Not yet. I am trying to see if I can get the lock to open by force, but I don’t think that’s a good idea. If the lock somehow breaks, then we might not be able to enter the ruins at all."
She told Cane as he kneeled down with her to check the lock as well.
The system clearly indicated that there was a key that they needed for it, but Cane was still kind of hoping he could somehow cheese it and enter...
"Ai, you stay here. I will go and get the key—"
"No, I will come with you. We cannot risk anything happening to you right now. If you don’t recall, you almost died not even a few hours ago."
Ai reminded Cane, and he recalled the memory he had forced out of his mind. He opened his mouth to try and negotiate with her, but Ai’s expression told him that it was all futile.
[Shura: Give it up, man. You are up against a woman here. If she has made up her mind, then there is nothing you can do to change it. Just save yourself the headache and forget about it.]
Cane sighed and took that advice.
"Alright, you can come with me."
They both went back to the previous room where the grave still welcomed them. None of the traps were being displayed on the system, which meant that it would have been useless had Cane tried to use the map before.
He carefully stepped forward first, and Ai followed after him, stepping where he had before.
Cane was careful, and his luck pulled through, and he made it all the way to the tomb. The key was likely under the coffin, and he pulled the lid up.
The key lay on top of the dead body, and he reached for it. But a bandaged hand reached for his own. As soon as his hand touched the key, the room turned red and a warning flashed across his screen.
[Boss has been triggered due to the light.]
Before Cane could react, Ai slammed her fist into that dead man’s face and Cane closed the coffin again.
The room turned normal again and the system notification went live.
[Boss has been sealed again. No reward will be provided.]
Cane let out a sigh as he looked at the system screen. He could not help but marvel at what had just happened.
[DarknessLord: Holy Fucking Shit-! Did you just...skip the boss battle? Isn’t Ai too OP? She’s a cheat.]
Cane felt the same way. This also felt like a glitch but for the first time, it was not him who had caused this glitch.
"We should get out of here. We cannot be sure whether the boss will wake up again or not, right?"
Ai asked, and Cane nodded before he followed her. His feeling of something being ’wrong’ with Ai was increasing.
But he could not put his finger on what had changed.
[Bugcontrol: Bro, you are so lucky. Why cannot such luck ever happen to me?]
"Luck is a skill. If you want to get lucky, then you need to improve your gaming skill—"
[Shura: Just shut up, man. You are throwing salt into our wounds now. Please, stop speaking before we get an even bigger urge to kill you or something.]
Cane did not bring up luck again...not that he felt particularly lucky.
He had gotten a glitched account, but he was also being forced to experience the pain and downsides that came with it...
Hopefully, everything would be just fine later on as well.
