All of these messages felt futile. Ai kept pressing forward as her hand turned charred. Her arm was turning black as well, and yet, she could not pull back.

"Cane, come back right now. You are not allowed to die."

Ai yelled at him as she pushed her mana into Cane.

She had no idea why she could recall how to heal or use her mana suddenly when she had never been able to before, but she was sure that it was because she was desperate.

Desperate enough to push past her limits and do the one thing she was forbidden from doing.

The red slowly bled away from Ai’s vision as Cane came into focus. He looked paler than before, and his breathing was shallow as well.

But he was alive, and it was all that mattered.

Ai finally pulled back, and pain assaulted her head. A sudden burst of memories filled her mind.

She could finally recall a little of who she was and what this world was.

Clash Online was a simulation created by her people in order to evolve, but someone had accidentally left a module back on Earth, and humans had found it. They thought of it as ancient technology and decided to use it.

For some reason, this simulation worked for humans as well, but they had not yet started to evolve. The technology was dangerous and needed to be brought back. But their people’s main force could not be sent out whenever one wanted.

So, she had been sent here to check on the situation and find out whether humans were strong enough to oppose them or not.

But she had lost herself due to some interference from... something she was not sure about.

"I need to report back about it. Both, about the human potential of using this simulation to evolve and also the weirdness of it. The red message, it did not feel normal. It feels rather... ominous and dangerous at the same time."

Ai whispered as she pulled her hand back.

Her whole arm was black, and it hurt. But due to her weak connection to her main body, she hardly felt anything.

But this was the least of her worries. Her main worry was how to return home. Especially now that her connection had been damaged.

The only way left was to head to the Global Server within a month and find a way back from there.

"What a mess... but weirdly enough, I don’t regret it. I might even do it all over again if I was asked to."

Her behavior surprised Ai herself. She had not expected to ever feel . After all, her people were a sedentary type who did not feel much for others.

Cane’s voice snapped her out of her daze, and she quickly looked down to see him waking up. His eyes looked hazy, but he was undoubtedly alive.

"Hey, are you alright? Cane, can you hear me?"

Ai asked, and Cane focused on her voice to pull himself out of his dazed state. He blinked and looked at her before he looked around.

"What happened? Where am I... am I alive?" The source of this content ɪs NoveIFire.net

He asked as he looked down at himself and then around. The world was slowly coming into perspective, and the pain he felt was fading.

The message appeared on Cane’s screen when he tried to check his progress, and he let out a shaky breath.

It hurt to breathe, but he was able to push past it as he forced himself to sit.

"Don’t push yourself too much. You are hurt so just lie down. The monster has been taken care of."

Ai told Cane, and he let out a shaky breath.

He had no idea how or when the monster died, but because he had not gotten the EXP gain, he could only gather that he had not been the one to kill it.

’Then, does that mean Ai killed that monster? But how...’

Cane wanted to ask, but another burst of pain stopped him. He closed his eyes and rested in Ai’s lap for some time.

Once he felt well enough to move around, he finally pushed himself off her lap and looked at his system.

There was no new message or notification, but he did notice that his stream had been cut off mid-way and he was getting too many messages once more.

’Ugh, what a headache. I want to log off and deal with this mess, but I have a feeling I cannot do that.’

Cane sighed as he pushed himself back to his feet. He felt well enough to move now, and he decided to start exploring the dungeon.

After all, it was not like he could quit and go back home to deal with this situation. The system wouldn’t allow him to log off.

"We should get going now. I don’t think we can leave this place until we clear this dungeon."

Ai looked determined when she spoke, and something about her felt... different.

She usually had a naive and innocent air around her, but this time, it felt different. She felt determined and more mature.

Even her smile did not feel as bright as it usually did. But Cane had no idea why he was able to tell something like that.

’I truly am paying too much attention to Ai. I should tone it down a little.’
