Chapter 41: Chapter 41
"Lydia." For a second, I think I forget to think. Lydia? Is she like them too? Gosh, why am I just getting things? This explains how she's able to come into the restroom and attack me the other day. How she's able to paint my room with shark's blood. How she's able to threaten me, and intimidate me more than she has ever. How she's able to come to school in that flashy way.
"...she's the new Infant. She was created that night at the club, after you attacked me. Unfortunately for us, when you attacked me, you delayed me in the process of taking back my venom that could turn her. After I made you swoon, I wanted to take the rest of the venom, but the Ryders came." Yeah, that was when I saw the dragons. It all makes sense now. "Then, I couldn't anymore. After they've inspected our presence, but didn't see us, they took Lydia and they have managed to turn her into their mercenaries. She's even willing to help them, just to get at us. And she's an Hybrid too since she's from my bloodline that way. We also think that she's the one causing all this issues of accidents and stuff. I'm not so sure, but I think so. She threatened that day after the detention, to accept mortality, that is, my powers. She's too dangerous now. And she will even be more when she finds her mate. Her mate could be any of the three creatures— Vampire hybrids, Werewolves hybrids, and Dragon-riders hybrids. That being mentioned, she can manipulate into us supposing her mate is a Vampire, or Vampire hybrid." He exhales, seeing my expression as a very puzzled kind. I don't get much of what he's saying, but I have a feeling I'd catch on sooner.
"I'm sorry for carrying you along this much sayings, but I just can't help it. I'll make the book ready for you as fast as I can. And I think it's time we stop this explanation until latter." He tells me. I nod soon after. I've had enough for to feed on today.
"I promise not to let you get hurt. And until you know enough about me, I'll not get too involved into your life, not without it resulting into your safety. When it is that, know that your safety comes first, before any promise." He adds, and moves closer. He ask no question, but I nod anyway.
Nicklaus takes my face with his hands, cupping it by the sides, forcing me to look at him. My breath speeds up, and he leans down to kiss me. It was firstly gentle, but then, he demands for more and I couldn't help but open space for him. His tongue circulate mine in such a way that it tingles and I smile, almost giggling—
"Rayne." I hear the voice call. It's familiar and I know its owner. Nicklaus releases me, and before I turn, I know what I'll meet.
Carl's face is intermixed with not-so-good expressions, but I caught one; it's an unbelievable look on his face.
"Carl." I start. I move away from Nicklaus just to near him, but instead he backs away, taking a step backwards in contradiction to mine. "It's not what you think it is. I'm not...I don't even....it's...you're making a mistake. It's not what you think." I repeat, because it's all I can say. Is it not what he thinks? Of course it's not. I snap at my inner, still-voice. She shuts up.
I don't know why I'm explaining myself to Carl, but with our relationship and things he's told me — liking me and such— I shouldn't have done this to him. Better still, I should have made him known that I can't date him. Maybe he think my junior high school affection for him is still intact?
"I can't even believe what I saw." He says. I think I hear him break. His voice already proves that. When he looks at me, raising his head, he watches me with disgust, I assume.
"It's not—" I want to say again, but Nicklaus takes the word from me.
"If you don't believe what you saw, then why feast on it? You could have just walked away with the thought; it's all an illusion or so." The way he speaks confirms what he's told me earlier. About the hatred between them.
Carl shift his eyes to him. "How dare you talk?"
Nicklaus backfires. "How dare you show affection to my beloved?" Whatever that's suppose to mean, I don't care, but the shock it gave Carl makes me know it's not something he'd ever want to hear.
"Is that true, Rayne?" His question is directed to me. I don't even know anything to be sure what's true or false.
"I...I don't...it's complicated." I breath out, feeling frustrated myself. Maybe keeping shut would have been a good idea after all.
"You Originals are back, and now doing things as you like. Whatever it is you're planning to do with her, I'll make sure nothing works." Carl is on the verge. Nicklaus is smirking devilishly to push him more to the brink, and he's feeding into it.
"You saw me kiss her. It's worked already." He finishes with a wide, thin lip smile.
Out of the blue, Carl is running with speed towards Nicklaus, passing by me and hit him at his chest. The action had looked weak, but its effect is beyond a hefty kind as it pushes Nicklaus backwards, causing him to slide with his feet, trying to maintain balance from falling. And then, suddenly from Nicklaus' behind comes the large tiger, roaring to catch him, but just in time he's able to dodge the effect but laying right onto the ground. The tiger hits the ground with a heavy thud, missing its target. For a second, I was joyful it didn't wound Nicklaus, but now it's in front of me. It changes its direction, coming for no one other than Nicklaus.
