Chapter 33: Chapter 33
"Over a fit of science equipment. You know, I could say you caused the fight." I say. I raise my gaze from the table to his eyes, and almost regret it.
Pull that shit of yours together. Better pull it!
He rolls his eyes, then fix them back on my figure. For a stupid reason, I find myself blushing unconsciously. Oh, no.
"When I told you that the Wildlings boy is dangerous, why don't you, rather, why won't you believe me?" He adds, all of the sudden.
His face's changed from those oh-so-misceivous smirks to an impassive yet tending look.
"I don't understand you." I lie. Well, I'm not so sure, but I think he's talking about Carl. Oh, yes. With this new topic, maybe I'll be able to find out what the grudge between them is.
"I was able to get the last tray because you were looking at the Wildlings boy." Nicklaus looks disinterested and irritated.
"Can you stop calling him that?" I sound equally disinterested and irritated as I refer to the word; Wildings boy.
"Carl's my friend, and there's no reason why I'd hate him, maybe because you hate him or something? I don't want to know since you wouldn't even tell me either." I add.
"He's dangerous."
"Why do you say that?" I pause. "How do I even know if you aren't?" The question comes out before I can grasp it and lock it deep within my throat. But truly though, Nicklaus is too secretive which means he either has something he knows people won't approve, or might detest, or it's just a habit of his.
"I might have the attributes, but I'm not." He says. "I need to go." He adds.
Go? We are still under detention. And it still remains fifteen minutes before we can be released.
"Have you forgotten why we are here in the first place?"
"I have an issue to solve." He says, closing his eyes. For a moment, he seems as if trying to remember something as he squint, but then, he opens his eyes again, and they are blazing cream with an hint of scarlet. He weirdo!
"Okay?" I am unsure of what to say.
He gives me a smile on standing up. "You should leave too."
I take a stand and follow him in silence to the exit door, and from the corners of my eyes, I watch the librarian continues to focus on her work as we pass by her.
"How...?" I turn to Nicklaus, knowing it's probably his doings.
He only smiles as a response. In the hallway, I catch Lydia's figure, looking at us from the other end, or rather at Nicklaus. She has an expressionless face that makes me almost feel pity for her, but I know better than feel sorry for the bullying Lydia.
"She needs my attention. This time, I promise it's not what you're about to think." He says from beside me, his lips close to my hair, sending shivers down my body, suddenly turning my feet into a resemblance of Jell-O, and I can't seem to find my equilibrium. So much effects he has over me. Why?
"See you, then." I say. He gives me a curt nod, and leaves to meet up with Lydia, who wears a satisfied face all of the sudden, and throw me some dagger-shooting-glare.
"Oh, my...my." says Shade humourous time from behind me, and beside her is Mia when I turn to them. "I don't even want to know, so go ahead keep it a secret." I know she's talking about Nicklaus. Go figure, Miss. Cole.
"I have something to tell you guys." Shade adds. Her tone has changed to a serious-minded type. "Eclipse, the company that's pending my work just sent me a message that they probably will allow my art work in their next gallery exhibition. This means that after graduation, I might have to leave Murrysville to Florida."
Shade's face is full of an expression that says; she doesn't want to leave her friends. And that alone makes me feel more worthy of myself that I have someone who really cares about how I'll feel when they leave.
"If you get chosen, I'll be more than happy for you to go to and fulfill your passion." I say, and hug her by the sides. She pats my back.
"Amen, thanks."
"I have no problem with that as well. Let's just enjoy being friends until then." Mia laughs, causing us to join her as well.
"So, I have a plan for us tonight." Shade tells us, looking from Mia to me with a teasing gaze. I wait in anticipation. "Let's go a cinema."
"When?"
"Seven, tonight. Mia, I'll text you the address so you can meet us in time." Shade says, and Mia nods, agreeing.
"And what movies are we watching?" I ask since it seems like no one is ready to ask the main, most important question.
"Please say horror. I want to yell." Mia squeals.
"Yelling is not fun."
"Your perspective." She replies me. I huff playfully.
"We're watching the book two of the After series." Shade finally answers, and I frown.
"You haven't watched it yet?" Mia ask, baffled. "I've watched it on Netflix like twice now, and also downloaded it." She says like it's the a movie we should have watched immediately it got out.
"I haven't even watched the first book." I say, and Shade and Mia groans simultaneously.
"That's too bad. You should." Shade says as she taps me on the shoulder.
"Okay, I will." I don't want to be the center of conversation again. "Can we go home now?"
"Sure. Mia, be expecting my text, okay?"
"Hmm." She says, and leaves.
When she's finally gone, Shade nudges my arm. "Let's go."
