Chapter 83: Chapter 83
The days passed quickly. It's been almost a week since Agustine and I made up. So far I could say that our relationship was going smoothly. I'm also trying to find time to introduce him to Daddy as my boyfriend but his meetings are always out of town.
"Are you done?" Agustine asked as he stood in front of my table.
I couldn't avoid rolling my eyes at him then took the last folder that I was going to distribute. "My car will be damaged because of you," I said as I grabbed my bag.
Since we returned to the city, Agustine has been picking me up from work. I know the other employees notice how close we two are, but even so, I haven't heard any bad words from them. It's when I realized, changing environment was really a big deal.
I couldn't help but think about my plan to leave. The business deal was already settled. Maybe in more than a month the hotel will be fixed. I can leave after that. But... why am I having second thoughts now?
Don't I want a new life?
Like the place where I work, I want a place where nobody knows me. A city where no one knows that I am a good-for-nothing bastard. No dirty words or looks.
A laugh brought my attention back to reality. I looked at Agustine who has a warm smile on his lips. His eyes were focused on me.
But what about him? Us?
"Can I have a date with you?" he asked out of nowhere.
I couldn't help blushing. To this day, I'm still not used to being like this. I didn't even think this would happen.
I cleared my throat and averted my gaze. "Tonight? Dinner?" I'm curious.
He didn't answer immediately. He thought for a moment and then slowly licked his bottom lip. After that, he stared at me.
"Overnight?" he answered with his uncertain tone.
I raised an eyebrow. "At your house?" I asked again.
He slowly shook his head and then walked towards my side. He took the bag I was carrying and then joined our hands. Those are the butterflies flying in my stomach again.
"No. I want to tell you, but it won't be a surprise anymore," he said, then let out a soft chuckle.
I just let go of the tickle I feel in my body. I didn't expect that at my age I would still feel what they call kilig. I'm not old yet but I can't consider myself a teenager either.
"We still have work tomorrow," I said.
He raised his left eyebrow now. "I am the boss," he said simply.
"You’re still not the one who is paying me," I said back.
"Well, I can triple your salary." He shrugged, then gave me a smirk.
For the nth time, I rolled my eyes and then walked ahead of him. I immediately felt him following me. I didn't need to answer his invitation anymore. If I didn't object, then I basically agreed to it. That's all. There was no complicated yes or no for both of us.
"What time will you pick me up later?" I asked when we got into his car.
"Actually, we're on our way now. I already bought you clothes so you don't need to go home," he answered.
I quickly turned to look at him as my eyes widened. "I haven't prepared yet!" I said panicky.
He looked at me curiously before turning his eyes back to the road because he had already started driving. "You're already gorgeous," he said and protruded his lips slightly.
This guy, he's going to use sweet words on me again.
In the end I just took out my new phone to check myself. I bought it a day ago after we went back to the city. I don't know if my cellphone was stolen. I looked for it when I got home but I couldn't really find it, I even asked Nexus if I left anything at the reunion but they didn't notice either so I had to buy a new one.
Agustine drove for almost an hour before he parked his car in a secluded mini farm. His staff, Miguel, met us when we got off. The two of them talked for a while that I didn't pay attention to because my full attention was taken by the environment.
The green trees, colorful flowers, and fresh air touching my skin. I also did not miss the various birds around, there are also manmade aquariums, and many other simple animals. I also saw a swimming pool that was only about ten people in size, in front of it was a two storey nipa house.
"Do you like it?" Agustine went to my side and snaked his arm around my waist.
I looked around for a moment to look for his staff but I couldn't see him anymore. "Miguel has left?" I asked instead of answering him.
"Yeah," he answered lazily.
"I just saw that again. Don't you always need a personal assistant?" I asked again.
Augustine raised an eyebrow. "Do you expect me to let him stay by my side after what you think of us?" he fired back.
I was dumbfounded and later laughed a little. I just shook my head and then looked around again. Feel the good atmosphere.
"You like it?" Agustine repeated his question earlier.
I answered with a simple nod. "Is it yours?" I'm curious.
"Maybe?" he answered uncertainly.
I turned to him and frowned. "Your family owns it?" I said.
He stared at me for a while, then slowly licked his lower lip. He opened his mouth to speak but closed it again. In the end he nodded at me in response.
"Yeah, my family," he said hoarsely.
I couldn't help but to roll my eyes at his reaction. He looked very hesitant in confessing. Did he want to impress me with his wealth but didn't work out?
"Why did you bring me here?" I was curious again and then started walking to tour myself.
Agustine followed behind me and let me travel freely where I wanted to go.
"I just noticed that you seemed stressed lately. Maybe you just want to unwind," he replied, trailing off in the end.
I stopped walking and could not speak immediately. First because I didn't expect him to notice how stressed I was since we got back. The second is because I remembered what I've been thinking deeply about for the past few days. That is my upcoming departure to another country.
I faced Agustine and smiled a little. "Just pressure at work," I lied. "Because it's my first project at Daddy's company," I added.
He kept looking at me. He seemed to be weighing whether or not to believe what I answered. That's why I smiled at him even more.
"Can we go swimming now?" I changed the topic.
I don't want any thoughts to interfere with my brain every time we are together like this. He's been my peace, my safest person to be with. I don't want to get to the point where I ask myself that I have to choose between the two things I want; Agustine and my freedom in my chaotic world.
"I'll just go and take your clothes," said Agustine.
I smiled at him again and nodded. After that he turned his back on me to go around to the back of his car. While I was watching Agustine in his actions, Mommy Francheska's words came back again when we last faced each other. That he's a big man, that Agustine can only be issued when things about us come out. Bitterness spread through my chest at the thought that I still wasn't rich enough. If in the teleseries, the rich accept the other rich. In our situation, even if I'm rich, I can't be with him.
I like him. No, I love him. But... how far will our love take us?
Agustine closed the back door of his car and walked towards me. I was happy to meet him. We were about to walk towards the house when his phone buzzing caught our attention. He silently cursed.
"Jeez! Work time was already ended," he grumbled as he took his cellphone out of his pocket.
I laughed and shook my head.
"Hello?" he answered the call seriously when he got it, even though he tried to keep the annoyance out of his voice, he still didn't succeed.
From his pissed off expression, his face became serious and cold. Just by the look on his face I knew he didn't like whatever he was hearing on the line. I couldn't help but be curious about what was happening.
"Search the source and stop the media from releasing it," he said coldly, then looked at me.
I don't know but I suddenly got nervous.
Is there a problem with the company? On the site?
"Okay. Keep me updated," Agustine uttered and ended the call.
"Is there an emergency? Do you have to go back?" I was immediately curious, mixed with nervousness and disappointment because it looks like our plan won't go ahead today.
He didn't speak, he kept staring at me for a moment with a concern in his eyes. It seems difficult how to explain or remain silent.
"You don't need to feel sorry. We can still go back here," I said even though that's not what I really feel in his eyes.
"Khrysta—"
His word was cut off when my phone rang.
"Don't answer that," he said seriously, which surprised me.
"Huh? Are you okay?" I was curious while taking the cellphone from my bag. "It’s Daddy," I said next when I saw Dad's name on the screen.
He cursed again and frustratingly combed his hair using his fingers. Although hesitating to answer the call, I still chose to answer it.
"Hello, Dad?" I uttered and looked at Agustine who was watching me intently.
"How were you able to embarrass yourself like this?" he said on the line.
"W-what?" I said in surprise.
"Is this how you took Mr. Revelar, Khrystal? Did you use your body for the business deal?!" my dad shouted angrily.
I felt like my breathing stopped for a moment. My knees started to go weak, before I fell to the floor, Agustine quickly supported me and grabbed the phone from me.
"Sir," I heard him speak.
He said something else but I didn't understand it. My mind was too focused on my father's words. How did he know?
"Don't worry, Sir. I'll do everything to stop the voice scandal from spreading," Agustine mumbled.
There, I remembered my lost phone. My hands trembled in fear. I don't know if the fear I feel is for me or for Agustine. But right now, there's only one thing that I'm sure of.
I disappointed my father.
