Chapter 111: Chapter 111
"Omg, girls have some class."
My gaze shifted when a familiar voice spoke. I frowned when I saw Agustine's mother. She was standing in front with an expensive bag hanging on her arm. She let out a sigh and then walked elegantly towards us. Every sound of her heels as she stomped on the hospital floor did not escape my ears.
"Where's my son?" she asked when she's finally in front of me.
I stared at her for a second. I can't see any emotion on her face. I could not even decide whether to respond or ask back a question.
"Mom." On cue, Agustine arrived.
He quickly went to his mother and gently held her arm. "What are you doing here?" he added.
"Well, I found out that you are here. Did something happen to you?" his mother was curious.
Agustine quickly shook his head and looked at me. Asking for forgiveness even though nothing has happened yet. His throat moved before looking back at his mother.
"Mom, please, go home. Let's talk at home. Don't make a mess here," I heard him murmured.
His mother's eyebrows automatically twitched. "What? I am not doing anything."
"Mom, I already know that you met her, please . . . not now," Agustine pleaded.
"Yeah? Is there something wrong with that?" Then she glanced at me. "Did I hurt you, hija?" she asked.
She looked confused by what Agustine was trying to say. I was also confused by what she expected. She doesn't like me, right? That's why she went with Agustine's so-called fiancee to intimidate me.
So why did she act now as if she was confused about whatever his son wanted to say.
"Mom, please . . ." Agustine uttered.
His mother faced him straight. "Look, I don't know what you are trying to say, Agustine. And seriously, are we going to make a scene here?" Her eyes roamed around the pathway.
I unintentionally rubbed my temples.
It seems endless.
"Let's get inside the room," I said to them.
Agustine's mother looked at me curiously before turning to the door of the room in front of us. Agustine was looking at me in shock. There was questioning and consideration in his eyes.
"Who's inside? We are not going to trespass, right?" Agustine's mother whispered to her son.
I did not pay attention to them anymore and just turned the door lock.
"I took it," I heard Agustine answered before I finally opened the door.
I went inside and they immediately followed. My mother's eyes slightly widened after seeing all of us. She quickly adjusted to sit on the sofa while Gia's head was cradled in her leg.
I overheard an exaggerated gasp. Even if I did not look back, I knew it was from Agustine's mother. I went towards my son's bed and stared at him for a while. After that I faced them.
"Let's talk softly. As you can see, both of my kids are resting," I stated.
Agustine's mother stared at me while her son’s eyes are soar. Lhea, on the other hand, was just bowing down, obviously consumed by conscience.
No one spoke next. I took a deep breath before focusing my eyes on Agustine's mother.
"I know, you do not want me for your son. But let me formally inform you about the children." I then pointed my finger at my daughter. "She is Gia, and the boy lying right now on the hospital bed is Gio. They are twins. They are Agustine’s children."
Despite having an idea beforehand, her eyes widened in shock. She thought about it for a while before facing Agustine.
"Did you just hide my grandchildren from me?" her tone rose slightly as she spoke.
"He does not know. He just found out recently," I was the one who answered.
"W-What?" she asked with disbelief. "But why?"
Instead of answering, I turned my gaze to Lhea. She must have felt that so she raised her head slightly. She bit his bottom lip before slowly opening her mouth.
"I-It was my fault, Aunt," she murmured.
"What‽" she exclaimed and put her hands on her mouth, she checked my daughter and let out a breath when she didn't wake up. "Wait, let me process that and clear myself first." Then she looked at me.
"About what you said earlier, yes, I don't like you. But I think, everyone misunderstood my presence when I met you at your office," she began. "You know, five years ago, my son's name got tainted and he suddenly announced that he's married. I didn't believe that because I found out that you went abroad. I thought it was just for a show to save you. That was the reason why I tagged along with Lhea's visit; to see it for myself. Then I saw how unbothered you are about their engagement, so I really thought it was a lie."
I was shocked by what she said. I looked back at our meeting and remembered every look she gave me before.
"I don't like you, but that doesn't mean that I hate you to the extent that I'll be a bitch. I detest your last name, and of course it's valid." She rolled her eyes. "My plan for my son's future got ruined, but like what I've said, I never dreamed of being a villain in someone else's life."
Agustine groaned. "There won't be an engagement, Mom."
"It was your fault. You never said a thing. I still believed everything was untrue because you and Lhea were still seeing each other," he blamed.
Agustine sighed. "How can I drive her away if her child is always with her? You always make them come to me," he pointed out.
"Well that's because I am clueless. God! You are already an adult, and a successful billionaire. As a mother, I wanted to see you build your own family and have someone to rely on."
Agustine came to his senses, after that he looked at his mother with a smile. "Since I was a child, I am under your orders. You tell me what I have to do. So, I'm sorry if I wasn't able to tell you, Mom. I just don't want to damage our relationship even more."
"Is that what you think of me, Agustine? You believe I'll prevent you from being happy?" Her lips made a fake smile.
Agustine seemed to be hurt for his mother so he quickly approached and gently touched her elbow. "I'm sorry if I misunderstood you. It's just . . . despite my accomplishments, I haven't heard you compliment me," he said hoarsely. "I thought that doing something that wasn't in your plan would leave you disappointed."
I looked away from them when I remembered that Agustine and I went to a villa. How he got emotional when I said I was proud of him. How he talked about his family.
I could not blame him, not even his mother since I can understand both of them. It was like they grew apart despite having each other.
Silence filled the room after that. We feel the same way about each other. As time went by, after knowing everything, I felt like I wanted to rest for a while. I still can't process everything, I'm hurt by what my children went through because of our misunderstanding and rash decisions.
I am not the victim, nor is Agustine, or even her mother. But our children.
"Mommy . . ."
My thoughts were interrupted when I heard my son's voice. I quickly turned to him and came closer. My tears flowed automatically when I saw that his eyes were open.
"B-Baby . . ." I stuttered and caressed his face.
Thank you, Lord, for saving my son.
"Mommy, I saved Daddy's daughter. He won't be sad, right?" Gio's expression was serene as he said that.
It was like a dagger that pierced my chest directly, it killed me little by little.
My poor child.
